His troops were slowly making progress through the Kawani lands. Each had their directives and yet he was aware of the issues that could arise at any given moment. Without his watchful gaze upon their forms, there was likely to be in fighting and arguments over who was superior to who. If the mutant was honest they were all equal and as such, they were all expendable. Nevertheless such infighting and a lack of loyal superiors was a completely valid issue.
For one who revelled in absolute control, the in fighting slowed down his immediate objectives and he could not afford for that to happen. Ah but of course, for the time being; while his grand children were still weak and insignificant they could continue to fight. However, Kiyoshi was more than aware of the necessity to instate some form of control over them even when he was not present. It should have come of no surprise to his spies then, that he once again began to consider his quiet musings from many months ago.
It had been through a chance encounter with one of his chosen foals that the idea had been born. The spirits had presented him with an Alicorn, through careful preaching he had shown this foal the 'darker' side of life. His ultimate goal was to use the sugary sweet colt to twist his grandchildren, but he had also possessed a quirk that Kiyoshi had long since forgotten. It had been through that chance encounter that the mutant had been reminded that they could heal not only themselves, but also others.
Ah, to imagine the sheer power and control one could exert in another if they had the power to tear them apart and then to grant them life again! Admittedly, Kiyoshi healed at an abnormal rate and his traits passed on genetically but he could not sustain the life of another. Thus, he had began to contemplate what possible outcomes a union between himself and of unicorn blood might produce. Ah, they would possess the weapons and strength of him but to have that horn to heal with...
The possibilities were endless!
The mutant rarely became giddy with excitement. However, the prospect of developing a weapon that could not only excel in combat, but also in mental games was intoxicating. Such offspring would make ideal weapons and ideal leaders...they would command the loyalty of their troops through both strength and the ability to save them. Mmmm...such control.
Thus, as his spies sought out more allies to do his bidding the mutant sought out a potential subject for his experiment. It was unfortunate that so many females required love and affection to mate. It really did complicate matters, but this particular Mutant was not adverse to playing whatever role the mare desired. He could be the knight in shining armour if he must, it was a sickening prospect but if it ensured success...
He released a small snort as he thrust the low lying branches away from his face. Swiping at each with his forked horns in a disgruntled fashion as he progressed through the forest. The ebony stallion hadn't moved that far in, the sun could still breach the tree line but he was sufficiently submerged. Unaccustomed to his immediate surroundings, glowing eyes continued to observe his surroundings while ethereal tendrils extended outwards. The turquoise strands coiled idly round trees and plants, assessing every aspect before 'reporting' their findings to their master.
He often argued that he could hear and see everything through a variety of means.
He was rarely surprised.
Everything was planned right down to the very last second and he revelled in his success. Thus, it shouldn't have been no surprise that even in the unfamiliar environment he wasn't that phased by potential threats that may have lurked in the depths...

Corvina sighed and slumped against a tree-trunk, unaware of the new Soquili approaching. She rubbed her flanks against the bark idly as she scanned the forest for a better spot of shade. She didn't much care for summer or its sweltering heat, and now she was regretting leaving the swamp to find better food. She feeling of cool water over her hooves was something she was missing right now... but she wasn't quite sure if she could figure out how to get back. At least before nightfall, and as unsocial and reclusive as Corvina could be, she wasn't stupid enough to risk a run-in with a hungry skinwalker at night.
She tossed her heavy mane and pawed at the ground with one of her hooves. She was bored. Or lonely. Or both... she didn't quite know. It was so unfair - to feel so uncomfortable and awkward around other Soquili and yet still deeply crave their attention. There were many things in life that seemed so... uselessly cruel.
But the sound of someone approaching finally broke her from her thoughts as her ears whipped forward, scanning for the origin. Heavy hooves on the forest floor came nearer, and in the shade of the thick trees of the forest, a faint bluish glow... Corvina stood up straight and listened for a new more moments, before curiosity about the light got the better of her and she took a few tremulous steps towards it.

While few could begin to grasp the true purpose of the quirks and features he had, these trinkets had a number of benefits. The majority of these benefits revolved around combat, he was built to 'kill' for want of a better description. However, there were times when such quirks had the ability to prove their worth in more diplomatic pursuits. Now was one such time, the glow emanating from the orb acting as a lamp to attract the curious moth towards it. Ah, but such a moth was in luck given that this orb didn't immediately set the unfortunate bug alight upon contact.
It wasn't long before the mutant detected the soft clump of hooves upon the forest floor. The lack of weight behind them indicated that the soquili that approached was much smaller than he. He could only assume that it was also younger, though that was as far as he chose to go. He had long since learned not to make assumptions that progressed too far into the future, it left too many vulnerabilities and led to failure. His 'son' had been proof of that, thus he afforded only a few minor assumptions and made plans based on their accuracy. Based on such things, Kiyoshi had little to be concerned with and instead he did little more than to cease in his wandering.
Shifting his weight, he came to rest nearby a tree and glanced briefly at the low lying branches that had been spared his wrath. It seemed that forests were unaccustomed to creatures of such a height and as a result, failed to accomodate them. If the mutant was honest he was more than a little disappointed by what the Kawani lands had to offer. Alas, he soon returned his gaze to the shadowed creature that approached slowly... uncertainly.
He was in no mood for games, especially if it was a child.
"Do not assume that the shadows can hide you for long," he spoke up at last, tone cool and eyes partially shrouded by the ebony mane that had tumbled across his forehead.
