City in shamblesNow, this angers me, russia is practicing unrestricted warfare on civilian economic targets. It's one thing if you have target political or military targets, but the second you indiscriminately destroy civilians the whole game changes.

Sickening, but let's not forget that Georgia has been doing some nastiness of its own. It's far more complex than "big-evil-Russia beating up on innocent-little-Georgia".

It's a little hard to put up a determined defence when you're outnumbered several times over.

And you're facing a country that was a superpower just two decades ago.

And a fairly large portion of the population in the area you're fighting in actually supports the other guys.

invisibleairwaves It's a little hard to put up a determined defence when you're outnumbered several times over. but it can be done, history has shown this many times. If georgia's military keeps running, and then finally shoulders forward for a fight, by then the russian's are sure to have become cocky and I think the georgian's coud defeat them.

I really doubt it, Russia should know better by now.

WillWintter I really doubt it, Russia should know better by now. It's not an issue of how good Russia is, it is merely a commentary that people of all nations are susceptible to becoming cocky. Us American's have been guilty of it to an extent as well.

My head nearly exploded from the understatement. I think it's far more likely that Russia will either a) stop due to international pressure or b) keep going and simply roll over Georgia. It doesn't matter how determined the defence is, or how cocky Russia gets; Russia simply has the power to destroy them no matter what small gains they make. At best, a surprise defence would be a very small scale Battle of the Bulge. It might slow down Russia and inflict casualties, but once it's over they're done.

Its a Sun Tzu thing. attacking the farmers who feed the troops was, in Sun Tzu's mind, a perfectly legitimate and rational way to fight a war.
