Around 12:00 A.M on Saturday morning, I was stunned. China's supposed "coming-out party" was a dazzling spectacle, lush with symbolism and artistic expression. My art teacher would've had a joygasm (Is that word permitted? I don't even know...). Then, on the next the day, I was almost religiously watching most of the events. As the day went on; I started to notice somethings. First off, I noticed the majority of the air time was spent fussing the supposed giant of each game. And I thought, that isn't what the Olympics is about; it's about people rising above to do extraordinary things, not reigning herculean champions. David over Goliath. One should treat each Olympian with equal respect, for one should never underestimate the power of an underdog.
Another almost constant complaint, the involvement of political affairs into the game. I know there hasn't been anything serious like a riot or something, but honestly this is a series of games, not an overt form to display power within countries. Everything is a power struggle, China wants to prove that by winning these they are an up and running competitor for superpower status, America wants to continue its reign of Olympic supremacy, and Russia, to a lesser extent, wants to show that it is as powerful as during the Soviet Union.
Also one more thing, Michael Phelps pfft... Shmichael Phelps. Best swimmer ever, good for you, grow some fins and gills and race against actual swimmers, then we''ll see. (The previous statement was an outlet of the frustration for the amount of air coverage Michael Phelps was getting, just because he won another medal. And broke a record. He's not the only American who did that today...)

There is absolutely nothing wrong with the word joygasm as long as you post something other than that which you did.
While I do agree with you about the whole underdog thing, you are acting like this suprises you. Olympics is primarily an international sports event, whenever you bring sports into the mix people's competitive nature will kick in.
The sports world is filled with dozens of examples of how the fun of the game is often ignored in pursuit of victory over one's opponent.

It's the gathering of the world, of course there will be politics. Even in choosing China to host the Olympics is a political decision. That's just life.
