So as you probably don't know (i hope you don't anyway... that'd be creepy..) anyway, Toastie got a new bed today. WOOO. Well to be more specific, a new box spring & mattress. Now to understand me elation, you've got to know a little background information. When Toastie was little she shared a room with her little sister and they had bunkbeds (so cool, right?) Well a few years later her parents added an addition onto the house, which took out the upstairs bathroom and the computer room and added in their stead a larger bathroom, two bedrooms and another computer room. Long story short this addition allowed Toastie and her sister to each have their own room (which was about time, since Toastie was nearly out of elementary school).
Anyway, with two separate rooms we couldn't very well continue using bunkbeds since ours didn't separate into two beds at all. So this called for some new furniture. Toastie's sister called dibs on the bed from the spare room (a double bed with an antique brass frame like the one in bedknobs and broomsticks. ninja ) which left Toastie with a choice. She could either get a new bed from a store, or they could go out to the farm where Toastie's grandma had lived before she died, and take the solid oak bedroom set with a huge chest of drawers, vanity, two bedside tables, plus the bed frame, mattress and box spring. (guess which one she took. Yea, it was the oak. It was BEAUTIFUL.)
So we carted the set up from the farm and put it in Toastie's room and everything was fine and dandy up until the last few months when Toastie started waking up in the morning aching absolutely everywhere. Her mom suggested that the cause might be her mattress since she hadn't gotten a new one since they brought it up from the farm. Upon investigation, her parents both agreed that Toasties mattress and box spring HAD to go. It was sagging in the middle, many of the springs didn't spring anymore, it was so old that the sheets they bought didn't fit it because it was half as thick as the new ones they make now, and on top of it all, it was so worn there were tears in the fabric on top of the actual mattress from general use.
So this morning was the big event. The moment i finally got a new mattress. We went to about a hundred places until we finally found something in a fair price range that was comfortable for me. Delivery was included, plus haul away of the old mattress (not that anyone would even want it :/). I went to the exhibition (fair) today right after we sealed the deal, but when i got home everything was there and waiting for me. My new bed is now twice the height of the old one (seriously, i used to have to reach up to get my water from the bedside table, now i have to reach down) and apparently, when the guy was hauling the old stuff away he told my mom that the box spring i was using was most likely from the 50's. THE FIFTIES. That's like... 58 years ago!!! O_O No wonder i was waking up sore and tired, i was using an antique!
tl;dr My bed is TALL now, i was sleeping on a box spring from the 50's (the mattress was newer.. like from the 70's or 80's). I feel like the princess and the pea. My kitty loves sleeping on my new bed already (i haven't tried it yet, i'm just about to take a nap/go to bed when i finish posting this.

Kitty has been used as slang for... *ahem* "p***y" in the past. It's just not as commonly well-known. sweatdrop
I sleep on a futon, and it's pretty decent. XD
And, sucks that you had a REALLY old mattress. How did it even exist for that long? D:

I share rooms with my 16-year-old sister. crying
Anyways. Having a new mattress is awesome, isn't it? But adapting to new heights is kinda slow, at least for me. ...I've had the same mattress all my life. I can't sleep enough, and when I wake up and move, by bones go *crack* everywhere. xD

n___n So that was just about the best sleep i've had in my life. I woke up not sore twice when my parents were calling me for breakfast and just dropped back off to dreamland almost immediately. mmmmmm.
Aine: My grandma got a new mattress a few years before i was born (so the late 70's early 80's) She then moved into a convalescent home where her bedroom set didn't fit, so she took the bed from her spare room. The bed and mattress and everything sat in her farmhouse under furniture covers until we picked it up and took it home, so it was essentially in suspended animation... or so i like to think :p
Also, my old mattress was twice as heavy as the new one, yet half as large. Gooo figure, eh?

Congrats on getting a comfy new bed to sleep on. ^^
I need to put my mattress pad to make the bed I'm using now not so uneven and weird.

Heyhey! I just got a new bed too... Well a new mattress. I got a "Captain's Bed" wooden bed frame last year and the mattress this year-- it's so fluffy and soft.

I had to sleep on wood for a week and a half in China. Very happy when we got a hotel room. <.<;; I should get a new mattress. The one I have is old, but not 50s old. XD
