Shift-beat walked through the murky swamp waters,
his bright hooves visible even through the muck,
to say the least he could be spotted a mile away,
but this hardly bothered the buck.
A eerie tune filled the air as he wandered,
oddly in place with the stepping of his powerful hooves,
the song he sang while eerie in voice, actually had a
brighter rhythm hidden beneath.

((Sorry for such a short post and lame title... >>;;; ))

Berrybramble was not the type to be turned away simply by an eerie song. Though a shiver ran down her spine, the doe was curious; her ears pricked forwards, nostrils flaring as she sniffed the air in an attempt to catch a scent-marker, the identity of the song-singer. Her own hooves were well-hidden beneath the murky waters of the swamps, as well as her pale legs. The doe would not stray for, though, from the shore. Within a cluster of swamp-roots, held just above the water, were four precious sacs; her sacs. The young mother was curious as to who was singing the song for many reasons -- one of which was simple. Was the eerie song a harbinger of death? Superstitious and paranoid, Berrybramble watched, waited, anxious to lay eyes upon whoever might threaten her children.
