Okay, so I am in marching band at my school and we do 1 big halftime show per football season. We work on the music and that's fine, but when we rehearse maneuvers on the field, I can never remember where I'm supposed to go! Can anyone help? redface

What we do is make dot books. Get a spiral bound book of index cards. Put the drill card for the opener on the first page. On every page, write the drill for every set. For example: Write your place for the first set on the first page after the drill card. Second set on the second page, etc. If you want to, you can draw a grid type thing of the field with your position and the people around you. Tie a shoelace through the spirals and wear it around your neck at practices. Just look at where you're supposed to go for the next set. That's what we had to do.

You get better after lots of practice. For most people, the amount of time the band puts into running the drill again and again should be enough. If it's not, then use your dot book and spend time mentally going through the show, with your dot book to keep you on track.
