 Things had been... Quiet; extremely so in a 'why are they so quiet?' sort of way. Both her mother and father seemed content with themselves in the little grove that they called home but she? As happy as she had been with life as it was when she was younger she believed that there was something more out there, even if she wasn't entirely sure what.
Those thoughts had carried her out to the edge of the woods, leaving her to glance out from the shaded comfort of the canopy that she had grown up beneath. The pains stretched out with tall grasses ahead of her... Was she really ready for such a step? To take this wandering and turn it into a grand adventure?

On the contrary, Serenade had spent the majority of her life wandering aimlessly. In the beginning, she had to goal to find her brother, but that had been lost in the midst of life. Her sudden pregnancy, while welcomed, brought her mixed feelings. Now that her two daughters had grown and left for a life of their own, she had returned to wandering. It had returned out of habit, with no real goal in mind.
Her ears flicked forward as she heard the rustling of something. Surprised, the mare stood still, her nostrils widening as she tried to catch a scent. The winds were not with her today, only bringing her the sweet scent of grasses and foliage. She stomped her foot in frustration, shaking her head as she reached down to scratch her face with her foreleg. False alarm, perhaps. Swishing her tail behind her, she raised her head up, juuuust making sure that there indeed wasn't anything else around but the birds and the bees.

Taking a deep breath and tossing her head high she stepped out into the light and away from the safety of the shade. The feel of grass tickling her legs almost made her shy back but she managed to get herself under control. It wasn't all that different... Maybe just a bit higher. Maybe.
She gave her head another light toss before taking a few more steps out. "Ha!" This was just way too easy. She should have done this sooner.
