How hard it is to make your own corsets? I mean, I am tired of the bad quality ones I buy at Hot Topic, because it is all I can afford at the moment. Plus, I wouldn't mind the custom fit <3

Second to what Vespa Ater said, and also if all you can afford are ones from Hot Topic, then most likely you won't be able to make a high quality one. Just a basic breakdown of price for supplies (using Farthingales pricing, which should be pretty standard):
1 meter of plain cotton coutil (extra for satin, etc.): $30 12" or 13" busk: $15 AT LEAST 6 spiral steel bones + bone tips (and that would only be for a 4 panel design, and not double boned): $2.13 8 flat steel bones: $2.40 Grommet setting kit with 4 dozen grommets: $26.50 Total: ~$76
And that's not including shipping, the pattern itself, waist tape, boning channels, binding, lacing, muslin for a mock-up, and extra frills, not to mention the time it takes to assemble, especially if you don't have a strong sewing machine. You can skimp on some things, like using zip ties instead of a steel (which really, for only $5, I'd definitely say steel is worth it), or not have a busk (in which case you'd need more boning, plus it's a complete pain in the a** to have a lace up front or non-opening front in general), or use cheaper fabric (i didn't include the cost of fashion fabric and fusible interfacing in my cost, which can get pricey). Of course, if you buy in bulk, or if you already have a reliable grommet setter the grommets themselves are only $8-$15, and prices of everything can be significantly reduced. But unless you're planning on making 20 corsets, buying in bulk doesn't seem very worthwhile.
Of course, if you aren't looking for any waist reduction, then you can use eyelets instead of grommets, a lot cheaper of a fabric, plastic boning, whatever. But then you might as well just buy the one from Hot Topic.

What kind of sewing machine would be good for corset making? I'm planning on buying one. And I thought about getting an antique Singer (just because they look lovely)... I don't know if there is much of a difference in strength between the newer Singers and the antique Singers, but I'm planning to work with PVC and I don't know if they'd be strong enough. =/

I make my own corsets and it really isnt that hard. most people think/say it is but if you have the right pattern and have someone to answer your questions it really is quite simple. as far as price goes its about the same as buying a hot topic corset. any sewing machine will do the job, i personaly prefer older machines because they are made of metal and tend to be a little stronger. laughing moon has great paterns with fantastic directions. A few places to get materials are farthingales or corsetmakers . corsetry is a bit time consuming but once you understand how to do the seams its really isnt that hard. The most help full resourse in all of the www is corsetmakers lj . go there and you can find all the info you could ever need or want. best of luck! feel free to pm me with any questions!
