That's easy to answer. John Edwards admitted he had an affair. In America, sex scandals trump wars (especially wars in far off countries) every time.

At least 38 Warao Indians have died in remote villages in Venezuela, and medical experts suspect an outbreak of rabies spread by bites from vampire bats. http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/26099346/The Phelps Brigade Invades Canada: http://www.cbc.ca/canada/manitoba/story/2008/08/08/westboro-protest.html?ref=rss

http://www.nytimes.com/2008/08/13/nyregion/13detain.html?partner=rssuserland&emc=rss&pagewanted=allHe was doing everything right, trying to get naturalized, but once long ago, he slightly overstayed a visa. IE: he didn't reup in time once, causing a small gap. It's evil, it is. Things like this happen all the time because INS has no oversight at all and are authorized to treat people however they want. He wasn't a criminal. He was a thirty six year old man here legally trying to jump through all our hoops and we condemnded him to death for just once letting the visa lapse. They let him live on in what was likely horrific pain until early death took him because he messed up some paperwork once in twelve years. If we give the death penalty to highly educated legal immagrants, is it any wonder a lot of people don't want to risk it?

This horrifies me as a former educator: http://www.post-gazette.com/pg/08266/914029-298.stm
I think it's completely unreasonable to give 50% to a kid who never turned in the assignment or who just scribbled a couple of lines in and left the rest blank. They did not do fifty percent of the work. they did not even try. I think that a lot of kids will figure out they only have to do half the work to get a "c" and do that. We will no longer be able to use sports participation as a grade incentive either as a lot of the guys that's for would simply stop turning stuff in. I definitely think that this will demoralize the folks getting 75%.

I can't find the article yet, but I heard Clay Aiken admits being Homosexual. I don't how this is news, but it beats the other crap I've seen.

Yes. He has a long term partner and a new baby too. He says he wanted his kid to grow up in an open and honest environment. I other news: Illegal standing army within US boarders that "They may be called upon to help with civil unrest and crowd control or to deal with potentially horrific scenarios such as massive poisoning and chaos in response to a chemical, biological, radiological, nuclear or high-yield explosive, or CBRNE, attack." Crowd control. Yeah. Yet another creeping bit of fascism. http://www.armytimes.com/news/2008/09/army_homeland_090708w/

I expected better of you. The word fascist is meaningless. Just ask Orwell.

The latest bit of scary global religious intolerance aimed at women: http://ap.google.com/article/ALeqM5hoA3xhc9M-8OwT6b-yjxC_DzJ8fQD93JN8IO0
This sends shivers down my spine, ""These breaches of purity and modesty endanger our community," said 38-year-old Elchanan Blau, defending the bearded, black-robed zealots. "If it takes fire to get them to stop, then so be it."" Or how about, "The state, catering to religious sensitivities, subsidizes gender-segregated bus routes that service religious neighborhoods. Ragen and several other women challenged the practice in Israel's Supreme Court after an Orthodox Canadian woman in her 50s told police she was kicked, slapped, pushed to the floor and spat upon by men for refusing to move to the back of the bus."

Political Round Up *Apparently in Kenya, they have already started naming babies Barak and Michelle. O.o
*Congratulations to Oregon for voting out Gordon Smith!
*Stevens win in Alaska is official. There is speculation that he stayed in the trace so that his successor could be appointed by the Alaska Governor. (If the senate refuses to seat him, which is likely, or he goes to jail as a felon, he will need a replacement.) People are wondering if Palin will step down as governor so that the Lieutenant Governor can apoint her senator.
*In other Republican news, Palin's own party appears to have turned on her to use her as an election scapegoat. Classy, guys, real classy.
*As of this writing, the Franken recount in Minnesota is showing a 336 vote gap between him and the Republican. There is still a chance Franken could win, but I'm not holding my breath.
*For those watching, this puts the senate at 57 to 42, with the Franken race still not settled.
*I am confused as to why Bush's 2000 election counts as a mandate, but Obama, with the strongest majority in twenty years does not? I am completely failing to understand the republican logic here.
*Bush's dog has bitten a reporter. No really, look it up.
