So...I got all of them but I've never used them because I have no idea how to. Can someone explain to this idiot please? Lulz.

Ah, Quickenings... They're possibly my favorite part of XII's battle system.

Here's a good overview of them, but I'll try to go more in detail as to how to use them. I'm trying to be as detailed as possible, so if I'm saying stuff you already know, don't be offended, OK? sweatdrop

You have all of them, meaning each character has all three of theirs? That means your MP gauge is split in three, and when each part is full, it turns orange, right? That's how many Mist Charges you have, and you can use the corresponding Quickening. For example, if you have one Mist Charge (the gauge is 1/3 full, with one orange section), you can use just a level one Quickening. If your MP is full, though, you can use any of the three.

So to select your Quickening, go to Mist > Quickenings > Whichever one you want to or can use, and voilĂ ! Whatever Mist Charges you needed to use that Quickening will be used up. For example, you had three and used a level one Quickening, so you have two left.

Then we chain! On the bottom right are your characters, and you can use their Quickenings before your first character's ends, based on the Mist Charges they have. It works the same way as the first time, with the level of Quickenings you can use and the number of Mist Charges. This time, though, you can't choose the Quickenings you use. It's randomized, and if you don't have enough Mist Charges to use the Quickening that comes up for a certain character, it's greyed out. Otherwise, you can then activate their Quickenings with triangle, square, or cross. That Quickenings will then follow the current one, and the process repeats.

The other option that will randomly appear is Mist Recharge. This will fill that character's Mist Charges back up to three, but once the Quickenings end, they won't regain the MP. It does, however, let you chain more Quickenings with that character.

The last option you have is pressing R2, which will reshuffle the options you're given. If you don't have any usable options (if you don't have enough Mist Charges for any of the Quickenings shown), R2 will give you another shot and give you new options. They'll also be shuffled when you select a Quickening when you have the next opportunity to chain another.

The last part, as you may know, is the timer. You only have a few seconds at most to choose the next Quickening to chain, or it will just end and break your chain. Every time you chain, you get less time for the next one. Mist Recharges are reshuffling both take up a significant amount of time, so avoid using them if you can once you start running out of time.

Oh, wait, I lied. The last part is the concurrences. The page I gave explains them pretty well; depending on how many of which level Quickenings you use, you can get stronger concurrences, which are one last attack after you chain your last Quickening.

eek uh..i'm bit DD on this one...

I've been doing these wrong all this time (half way thru the game)... silly me was pressing R2 repeatedly thinking i had to do this really really fast until my time was up. Where did i get that from?

Could you explain this slower for me? I choose the quickening for a character then when the timer comes up i choose triangle, circle or plus (does it matter which one) to get the other characters to do their quickening. (shoulda known, that's how the older FF did their techniques)

I really need to get home and do this...that's hours from now...an outrage!...*don't feel well* emo

yeah he pretty much got it.

and has anyone got the final concurrence?

ive only got it twice, and i hit damage limit on it both times.

FINAL BOSS BATTLE SPOILER!!!

one time i used it on the final boss and even tho it showed up only as 9999 it actually hurt him for half cause he put up the barrier thing to stop physical attacks and then after that he only put up the impentrable barrier, which he only does at 25% health and then he died. (i got the strat guide so yeah razz )

I`ll give it a shot, since you seem confused still:

There are three different levels of quickenings (Qs, so I don`t have to type the whole damn thing out each time), and as you increase the level, the amount of MP required increases.

Once you have selected the Q you want to use, a short cutscence begins to play, and at the bottom righthand side of the screen is a timer. Above the timer is the names of the all characters in your party (provided they`re not incapacitated).

Some characters will have their name in white and a triange, circle or square to the right, as well as the name of one of their Qs. By pressing the corresponding button, the character preforms that quickening. The characters that can use their Qs and the Qs themselves are randomly chosen at the begining of each cutscene. By pressing R2, the options are shuffled.

If a character has insufficiant MP, they will not be able to preform the quickening. If `mist charge`appears, it will fully restore all MP (once selected) and then you`ll have to choose a Q.

Hope that helps. heart

Yup Arikai, that sounds good. I have gotten every concurrence, and I have only gotten the last one once or twice. I keep forgetting you need four of each for it and only bother getting three each before I start just trying to drag it out... That does mean I've gotten Luminescence plenty of times, though!

I almost never get anything better than Inferno or Torrent. I'd like to think it's because I'm horribly unlucky, but really I think it's just because I suck at it. sweatdrop

I tend to get either really good combos or nothing at all. Sometimes I do just screw up really badly, but there are times I've shuffled about ten times without any recharges available. -.-

Whenever i go on tough hunts, I always cheat and use my quickenings to kill the darn things quickly. And, especially when you have to fight the bosses. I make sure my poeple all have quickening abilities so that we can beat the crap out of the stupid guys!!! So, yeah, hopefully you can use this info, but i bet you knew it already....

Heehee, that's not cheating, su-weet; that's what they're there for! They are awfully handy for bosses, but the problem is when your MP gets all used up from them and you need it. sweatdrop
PostPosted: Wed Jul 08, 2009 6:58 pm

It certainly is not cheating. >_>
In my first game I played through I used them a lot to fight the really tough monsters that I'd go fight with my under-leveled team. Hunts, bosses, you name it I quickened it. I ran through my game halfway with luck. xp

I'm replaying currently and...my luck isn't as good. gonk
