'Woyi had spent a long and lazy day soaring high in the air, red-and-purple wings silhouetted against the grey sky, watching the world pass by slowly underneath her. Whenever the skies were so dreary, grey clouds blocking out the sun and blue sky, 'Woyi felt that she had to lift off the ground, had to remove herself from the slow, plodding feeling she always felt as the heavy sky weighed down her spirits, and remind herself that she had the ability to fly, the wings that could life her high into the air and free her from the dull feelings the grey days inspired. Somehow flying made the grey days seem less oppressive, almost as if knowing she could fly high enough so that the clouds were still above her and yet trees were as small as blades of grass reminded her that the clouds were not sinking down upon her head. These weren't even rainclouds, which were enjoyable when she was on the ground, especially if lightning and thunder accompanied them, but simple grey clouds, and so she had to make sure her spirits stayed properly lifted by her own actions, even if the spirits of nature tried to prove her otherwise.

But, for as long as she had been in the air, 'Woyi was getting thirsty, and a little hungry too. Just below her was a small lake, surrounded by covering forest in case the clouds decided it would be enjoyable to rain on the Wind mare. And that lake was bound to have some grasses around it. She hoped there was some clover, for the sweet plant was always her favorite. So thinking, 'Woyi turned her wings slightly so she cut back across her path and a little lower, slowly winding her way back and forth and losing altitude all the while. Normally she might dive straight down, but she just wasn't in the mood for that.

When the mare finally touched down she was just by the edge of the lake closest to the forest, and as she bent to take a drink she noted that right by the edge of the trees was a very large and quite enticing patch of clover. Hurriedly she satisfied her thirst, then trotted over to the sweet clover, folding her wings against her sides as she bent down to stuff herself with the little purple flowers and small green leaves.

"Well, hello there. I hadn't expected a visitor on such a gloomy day," Bright said, trotting up behind the Soquili who had just landed in his humble abode. This place had cold water, clear air, decent altitude, and a quality of greenery that could appease even a gourmet.

Which would explain why a strange mare had wandered in and delegated to stuff her face with the clover that he so assiduously rationed. She mustn't have noticed him napping under cover of the trees that lined this clearing. A childhood with a very rambunctious brother had trained Bright to wake whenever hooves were heard in his immediate vicinity, and Kiyoshi had advised him to hone the skill.

Bright wheeled around in front of her, smile fixed firmly in place. His blue eyes sparkled, and his coloring was boldly cheerful even in the half-light of an overcast sky. Even his oddest affectation - the steel mask which covered half of his face - was painted very innocuously. It was hard to be threatening when one was so very pink.

"You're welcome to stay, of course." He fanned his wings in a gesture of welcome. "The company of a beautiful mare is refreshing as a ray of sunshine, and on a day like this, good cheer is sorely needed."

At the other Soquili's words 'Woyi threw her head up and whirled around, startled, only now catching sight of the very interestingly colored Alicorn male. He was mostly black, but then there were these very startling splashes of pink and yellow and purple...but she liked them. And this was his territory, his clover patch? The mare was feeling very embarrassed indeed for her lapse in not noticing the stallion and proceeding to stuff her face as if she hadn't eaten for months.

"I must admit I feel rather thoughless, not having noticed you here," 'Woyi said, mentally cursing herself for not at least paying some semblance of attention to her surroundings. "And I just came in here and started eating like it was my last day alive!" She laughed slightly, a bit of a blush staining her cheeks, though it was quite hard to tell with her brick red coat. But she was making herself sound more stupid, less observent, with each word out of her mouth, so she simply rustled her wings and bowed her head to the other Soquili as he welcomed her to stay.to

She had never heard words spoken the way that he said them. He was so...gallant, so chivalrous in his actions. Even when she did simply bust into his home. And the comment about the company of mares, his offhand compliment....all of it warmed Newadi'Woyi slightly from the inside, though she refused to let it show. It was a strange feeling, but it wasn't one she needed to think about. That was just being silly.

"I must admit, I was terribly in need of good cheer myself," 'Woyi agreed. "The skies are just so grey that I had to fly just to remind myself that the clouds weren't hanging right over my head, to keep me from feeling too slow from the dreary day." She smiled brightly at the thought of flying and shook those annoying tendrils of white forelock that always seemed to get into her green eyes away from her face. "I'm afraid I haven't properly introduced myself after simply landing in your home and then having you offer me such gracious hospitality," 'Woyi continued with slight shuffling of her wings in embarrassment. "You're making me feel as if I'm losing all my manners. I'm called Newadi'Woyi, though most simply call me 'Woyi." It seemed she was doomed to keep saying silly things in front of this strange stallion, so she shut her mouth and cocked her head, awaiting his reply.

Birght's blue eyes widened, and he broke into an alabaster grin.

"Nonsense, my dear! I am the one entirely at fault for making a lady feel self-conscious about herself," he said, abashed. "Had my wits been with me I would surely have been more ostentatious about my presence. No mare of grace and charm could possibly be expected to worry about tripping over loutish stallions wherever she lands. My name is Bright - Bright Dusk - and I am at your service."

Bright flexed his wings before folding them up neatly against his side. Ah, he was glad that the dreary awkward phase of his foal-hood had passed. As an alicorn he wasn't exactly sturdy, and the fine bones of his unicorn-shaped body weren't suited to stumbling gracelessly about.

"I imagine anyone would have a healthy appetite on a day such as this. The winds must be high with a storm rolling in. I have kept to the ground to avoid a great buffeting."

The Alicorn's mother was a Wind Soquili, and so was his only sibling. He had no illusions about his level of stamina compared to theirs.
