A heavy rain sang its song, tears of heaven staining the ground and everything caught unsheltered below. Despite the surrounding woodlands, water dripped from the foliage and stained the winged mare pushing through. Though her hooves were stained with mud and scars, though her bedraggled tail dragged behind her and was tangled with leaves and twigs, the winged mare didn't pay it much mind or heed. Appearances had never been important to the mare, including and most of all her own.

She was a mare on a mission to save the world; it never occurred to her to think much about her looks. She naturally was a hodge-podge assortment of colour and stripes, and frequently sported open wounds, blood stains and scars. Unlike some mares that pained themselves for hours to avoid the elements and try to make themselves look like some great beauty, Kaiya honestly didn't care. She didn't look at herself or others for their physical beauty, she searched for something more lovely and at times more gruesome than any outward appearance.

Kaiya searched for the soul.

Pausing now and then to nose at a few itching, healing wounds, the mare caught the pitter-patter of water against water. Her ears twitched and continuing on her through the woodlands, pushing through the underbrush, the mare found herself drawing near to a pond. It was small and partially covered in green, summertime moss and algea. Still, it looked cleaner than some of the mud puddles she had passed and a little drink could do her well.

Glancing around, the mare was pleased to see that she was alone. Many had sought out shelter from the rain, a few rogue rumbles of thunder echoing the unrest of the world. Thought the setting was dark and shadowed, with gnarled limbs of surroundings woods casting a slightly eerie presence around her, Kaiya could only find the beauty in the rain. Shaking her dripping bangs from her eyes, she smiled lightly and bridged the distance between the water and herself.

For a moment she watched as each raindrop caused ripples across the once calm water. Each one bumped in to the next, swiftly replaced by another ripple, and another, and another. Glancing up to the heavens, peeking through the foliage to stare up at the clouds, she wondered if those above were crying by the fate of world. . . . Was the rain really the tears of heaven? Or was the world grieving from the lack of duty from up above?

She couldn't change the world by herself. . . . but she could try and do it one soquili at a time. Shaking her head from any heavy thoughts, she lowered her nose to the water to drink.

Gabriel wanted to be alone. He had foolishly visited the clearing the other day and had been surrounded by idiots damn near instantly. What was wrong with the world? He was starting to feel more alone than ever. Even when he met someone with a glimmer of potential, it seemed that they weren't quite like him. No one was quite like him. It seemed like every damned creature he came across found something wrong with him. He was perfect. He was the only one in this god-forsaken land that wasn't a damn idiot.

The further away he could get from that area, the better. He needed to stop for a drink first as there would be a great bit of distance between the pond and the next watering hole, which if he remembered right would be a small stream. The pond at least was in a secluded location. There'd be less of a chance to run into one of those dingbats. Even the foals managed to irritate him though it was not their fault they were born morons. They can't choose their parents and when you're born into a family of idiots, you're destined to become an idiot yourself.

He was spared from such a fate. His father, though a coward with age was no idiot. His mother however, that was another story. He found his mother to be nothing more than a stupid whore. He loathed her and resented his father. He wanted nothing to do with his family. He wanted nothing to do with anyone.

Angrily, he shook his head and darted towards the pond that had finally come within view. He paid no attention to his surroundings, assuming that he was alone as was usual in this location. He lowered his head and began to drink, trying to put the recent thoughts out of his head.

Kaiya's ears twitched and turned as she heard the heavy step of movement nearby. Lifting her head from the water, thirst mostly quenched, she turned her silver and golden gaze towards the source. She hadn't caught scent or another lurking nearby, but then again, the rain was good for washing away such smells. It didn't take long for Gabriel to step out of the clearing, and Kaiya herself almost started at the sight.

It wasn't because his appearance frightened her, oh no; but after spending so much time besides the mortals that walked the Kawani lands, the mare understood angeni were a rarity. It wasn't often she saw another with the duel pinions framing their shoulders and back; it wasn't often she saw one that looked like they had walked the clouds just as she had. . . .

Still, despite her surprise Kaiya made sure to keep her expression passive. In fact, she hardly moved as she waited for the masked one to give her the time of day. There was a strange feeling in the air, almost as if her body became tense with anticipation. Soquili crossed her paths for a reason, and Gabriel was by far no exception; but he walked past her as if she didn't exist, as if he had been blinded to her presence. He looked at nothing and appeared to not even feel the water that drenched his coat.

Was he that lost in thought?
Blind, perhaps?
No . . . If he were blind it wasn't physically but perhaps emotionally, spiritually.

Oh, if ever the fates had blessed her!

Blinking water from her eyes, Kaiya stayed quiet as Gabriel drank. A small rumble of thunder passed overhead before the mare decided to move and react. He was some sort of angeni, similar to her, but a class all his own. He possessed features of a unicorn, the blood-stained horn that stuck from his skull and the spiked, fuzzy lion tail that swished behind him. But there were other things too. . . more spikes from his face, legs and tail; if he were an angel, perhaps he had been like her brother cursed and fallen. . . .

Transformed.

Perhaps he sucked the earth of its blood, perhaps he was an initiator of tears; she'd never know of course unless she broke the silence between them, unless she made the first move.

"Greetings and salutations." It was her favored choice of speech. Simple but eloquent and full of respect. She judged not the beast before her - what right did anyone have to look down or condemn another based on appearance alone. No, Kaiya was one with the world - everyone sinned, everyone had their shadows but society was just as damned by withholding the light as those that chose to swim in shadow. "I hope the day has treated you well."

He drank for a moment longer before finally raising his head to look at the mare that had spoken to him. Little phased this stallion. Even the thunder had not caused him to react. As much as he wanted to ignore the mare, he knew that would probably make it worse. The last thing he needed was a mare following him around, nagging him constantly. Was she actually trying small talk on him? The ignorance of these creatures never ceased to surprise him.

"I would rather decline your greeting. This day had treated me quite well until it decided to thrust your presence upon me." The mare was interesting to look at, at least. Half was bright as the sun and the other half almost seemed cloaked in darkness. What he found most interesting were the bloodstains that seemed to be on her leg. Had she been hurt? Attacked? Or was it the blood of another?

He hated the fact she was an 'Angeni'. He had never really met one outside of his father and grandfather, really, nor cared to. If his grandfather was anything to consider, it was a race he'd rather avoid. Too pristine, too proper.. too pure. He wanted none of it. He would have none of it! He couldn't understand how he could have been born from such a 'pure' race. Even his father, though worthless, wasn't even pure in the Angeni sense. This had to mean that other dark Angeni existed. Others perhaps like him.

Still, he knew this mare was nothing like him. If she were darker, she wouldn't have sprouted out a greeting upon arrive. She was polite. She was friendly. She was... exactly the kind of thing he wanted to avoid.
