Kisogo sighed at yet another beautiful day in the pridelands. He had already snagged a piece of kill to munch on, groomed his fur free of any spots and taken a run around pride rock. What else was there to do.... Walking down through the long grass, the young adult came across a lovely watering hole, with strangely few prey animals around it.... Couldn't be because there was a lion around though, that would be silly!
As Kiso approached the still water, his paws rested on the edges of the wet mud, peering down at his own reflection. It wasn't often that he thought about his parents, but today he couldn't help but try to remember his father, his pelt was looking more and more like his memories, but his mane had come in the completely wrong color. And of course, he couldn't forget that his mother always told him he had her eyes. He liked having his mother's eyes though, since it made his reflection seem familiar and safe, reminding him of her.
Getting frustrated at his nostalgia, Kisogo tossed a paw through the shallows, spraying the water onto the nearby grass and messing up his fur again. He would have to groom again to get that straightened out.... Settling down in the shade of the tall grasses at the edge of the oasis, Kisogo got to the task of grooming the mud and dirt off his front paws, again.

Finally, finally she had been able to get away form her father. He was proding at her again, where was she going, who would be there. Coudln't he just take a break and let her on her own? Not that Tearh minded usually, she was still shy, quiet, small for her age. protective, she reassured herself, just over protective. And what father should not be of a daughter? Especially around her age. She sighed though making her way to the water before her pale blue eyes.
Yes, finally,time to get away.
It was hot, hot enough tot ake a swim, she maneuvered herself around through the tall blades of grass to the water's edge, went to step in but hesitated. She saw her reflection, sighed, perfect mix of her mother and father, perfect, yet why did she feel...strange. She shook her head, let her paws step into the shallows, yes, much better.

Kisogo looked up from his careful pruning as the water rose a few inches from the added mass of another. He had been expecting a desperate prey animal, willing to risk anything for a drink, but instead he was met with a ghostly pale lioness, who had not even said hello to him. Raising his body up rather noisily in order to gain her attention, Kiso looked across the watery surface to the partly submerged body, "Uh, hello... What brings you to this secluded and small water hole?" Was that an awkward question or what?
But Kiso was curious, and he had always had his mother's disinterest in manners when there was curiosity at stake. He crossed over to the shore side that was closest to the female and sniffed subtly. No, he hadn't met her before, but he was interested in it. Not for any reason other than to do something different for once though, of course not....

Tearh turned her head to have her pale eyes settled on hte bright and bold figure of a male near her. For a moment her heart stopped, such colors, she had heard stories, but...no, he had a smile upon his face, knew the area. She she gave a smile, but did not tred to the water's edge, she stayed within hte water, her legs enjoying the cool lap of the gentle ripples of the surface.
"Just need to cool off, the sun is rather brutal today, don't you think?" she asked with a smile, her tail swaying in the water, paws digging into the wetsand and pebbles beneath her. "I'm Tearh, who're you?" Blunt, no?

Kisogo did not miss the flash of fear in the female's scent, would his father's lineage follow him forever? Shaking his head slightly, his gaze returned to the female, measurably friendly, as if he was obviously trying to not look like his grandfather. At the mention of the heat, Kisogo nodded eagerly though, "Yes, indeed, it is very warm out today...." His coat didn't tend to absorb that much heat, but ever since he had grown his full mane, he thought back on the days without such a heat storing bushel of fur, how did old males live with this much fluff!
Tearh, interesting name, and not one he recognized, but it gave Kisogo the benefit of an opportunity to clear up his heritage, "I'm Kisogo, son of Koho and Mwali, ex-prince of the firekin!" He raised his head proudly, just hoping that the female didn't know more about his family than he did. He hadn't heard a word about either of his parents in a long time, and he had a suspicion that his father had returned to the desert lands once again.
Kiso idly ran his paw through the shallows once again, wanting to continue the conversation for something to do, but not sure of another question to ask, "Soo.... come to the watering hole often?" Wow, nice moves casanova....

"Firekin?" she said tilting her head to the side somewhat in confusion. She hadn't heard..a lot of the Firekin, maybe it was for the best? But she was curious, but didn't press any further on the matter in case family history was hard or strange, like her own father's history. "Its nice to meet you Kisogo," she said with a smile.
She laughed at his question, was he nervous? "Sometimes, yea, its nice, I've gotten better at swimming and it makes hot days fun, its nice to relax by the water, watch how it moves and changes," she sounded like a day dreamer, but that was just fine with her.

Kisogo nodded at her one worded question, though he didn't elaborate, and since she didn't press, the topic was dropped. He didn't know enough about his father's history to tell about it, after all, Mwali had never talked to his son about such things, and he had left when Kisogo was so young, the lion had never thought to ask....
"It's nice to meet you too Tearh!" The lion smiled winningly, trying to pull off a level of confidence that should be reserved for gods. Kisogo suddenly settled heavily back onto the bank, twirling one paw idly in the water.
"It is interesting, watching the ripples...." The still playful adult looked up suddenly though, "But scouting is more intersting!"

"I like just, relaxing, watching, takes the stress off things, lets everything ease...least, thats what it does for me," she said with a smile removing herself from the water, letting hte droplets fall from her pale pelt, then shaking herself a little ways from him so she wouldn't get him wet either.
"You're a scout?" a dumb questions perhaps since he did just say that. "My mother likes to scout, my father hunts, I hunt, but I'm not as good as my father, getting better though!" she said with hope in her voice.

Kisogo watched the female dry herself, slightly transfixed at the whole process. He didn't go swimming much anymore, since his mane took so long to dry.... He usually ended up spending hours grooming himself after he got wet, so he had realized it was too much trouble anyway....
At her question, Kisogo shook his head, shaking his mind out of thought and answering her question, "No no, not at all. I guess I hunt sometimes...." When he thought about it, Kisogo didn't really do much at all. Once in a while he ran after slower prey, or killed an already injured prey beast, but other than that, he didn't really help the pride at all....
"I just like to explore once in a while.... Run around near the borders, make sure the rogues stay in their place!" He nodded confidently, raising up to his front paws, he grinned cockily, obviously fronting for the lack of power he had.

"Exploring is fun, though I have to say I don't go too close to the borders, I like it ehre, away from the borders more so, plus, I think my father might think ill of me if I went too far from the security of the internal grasslands of the Pridelands," she said with a laugh. Indeed her father was incredibly over protective, perhaps one day he will know that it is alright to let go of his daughter, let her grow..know she's an adult.
One could only hope.
"Rogues aren't so bad though, a lot of travelers come here, that are rogues, seeking home," she said with a nod. Though she understood why he was careful, if any trespassers came here with ill intentions, it would be horrible.

Kisogo nodded as the female talked. He was a bit overwhelmed at all of the company. The lion who was usually rather solitary, not by choice, but all the same. He liked talking to this lioness. "Maybe you should try it some time!" Kisogo rose to all four paws at that point, swinging his tail back and forth in a play bow. "There's all sorts of new scents! Lots of prey to chase too." He nodded, acting so cublike it was surprising he had a mane at all.
"Rogues aren't bad at all... Most of the time they're really fun to see...." Kisogo was referring to the wide range of coat patterns that rogues seemed to have. In the pridelands there was still plenty of variety, but that was due to rogue blood, not the noble family's. They had a long line of yellows and browns, just like the grass that grew on the savannah.
"C'mon, don't you want to go exploring?"

"I d go exploring, but where I feel comfortable and safe," she said with a nod. She also went exploring with her friend Murasame, and her siblings when they weren't exploring out on their own. Shaking ehrself dry again she yawned and stretched her forearms, blinking and looking up towards the sky, sun rays cascading over her back.
"I'd go exploring now, but it seems like now is a nice time for a nap, don't you think?" she asked with a smile, taking a few steps, stretching again, "Besides, I told my father I would return shortly, so I shouldn't stay out for too long," though exploring was tempting, so was a nap to the drowsy lioness.
"Perhaps we cna go exploring somewhere another day Kisogo?" she asked hopeful, it would be nice to venture with a new friend.

Kisogo rolled his eyes conceitedly, "You can't go exploring somewhere safe! That doesn't count at all!" Honestly, did this lioness know nothing about being adventurous? And a nap? The day was young, there were so many better things to do besides napping. Kisogo could only this of one of them at the moment, but that didn't mean there weren't plenty more!
"Not really, but I'm not much of a napper...." At her next comment, Kiso couldn't help but roll his eyes again, really, this lioness needed to get out more! "Your father? You're a grown lion, why are you still listening to your daddy?" Yes, he was taunting her, but she needed a bad influence if she was still listening to her father at this point in her life.
"Yeah, maybe we can, if you da-ad let's us..." Shaking his head, the red pelted lion stood up, shook out his mane and started walking away, off to find more interesting lions to bother.

"Of course I can, just takes a bit more searching to find something new and exciting, perhaps somewhere, a certain place where others don't go to usually, hidden," Tearh said matter of factly. Tearh sighed and shook her head at him, flicking her tail, "I am grown, yes, but in case you haven't noticed, I'm quite small for my size, my father is protective of me because he lost his sister to illness, lost his mother young as well, so don't speak ill of my family, you know nothing about them, or me..." she said narrowing her eyes.
True, her father could be over protective, but perhaps males that taunted females were the reason why.
"You might understand one day, maybe," and she walked away in the opposite direction.
Males...

Kiso only rolled his eyes further. He hadn't meant to insult the poor girl, but she was just so timid! Turning his head to watch her go, he huffed once more, shaking his mane out of his face before continuing his journey away from the watering hole. It wasn't like he had done anything mean or hurtful to her. He had been being nice, trying to get her to go play. It wasn't like he would let anything bad happen to her, Kiso really was a teddy bear underneath all the fur.
Despite that, she had been just too moody for him to deal with well, but oh well, it just gave him the chance to go meet some nicer people. People who wouldn't be so insulted by him joking around with them...
And with that he stalked off through the grass.
