I realized that I'm a minority among TMNT fans, I'm that TMNT fan that others might not necessarily want to hang out with. Not only do I dislike things connected to the fandom but I ADMIT that I don't like them. I KNOW that there are things people don't like but they don't want to admit.

Some of mine?

* I never liked the theme to the current TMNT cartoon but I really don't like the new one.

* I've never liked the crazy toy marketing and feel that having ten million figures of the same turtle in different outfits just isn't what I need. Besides, they made freakin' TMNT beyblades basically.

* As most of you know I hate the second movie but liked the third.

* Venus = teh suck. That whole show = teh suck. Okay... I'm not in the minority there.

* While I do attempt to read the comics I despise the art for the most part. I think it's horrible. I do like the way the turtles were drawn in the older comics (for the most part) but not the people.

* I think this whole "Shredder is dead. Oh wait no he's not." thing is a bit ridiculous. Fool me once shame on you, fool me twice shame on me y'know? *spoilers in white* And the whole "banishment" thing? Lame. Kill the b***h! Kill him till he dies from it!!!!

* I still like the old cartoon but I can't watch it without mocking it. I like it for it's nostalgia but if it were on today and I hadn't seen it before I'd hate it more than likely. I admit they bastardized EVERY damn character in that show. But that's okay now because without the show I may have never gotten hooked and I know the truth anyway.

I know there's more but if I keep going it'll look like I hate the series. So feel free to argue, say I'm an idiot, agree, add your own, whatever.

Point is, I'm a huge TMNT fan but I don't have to like everything involved in it and I'M PROUD!!!

Disclaimer: If you really DO like everything involved in it then... wow. Go you I guess. I'm not mocking you I just think it's kinda... wow. whee

Because the old thread got so OT that only the first page was actually on topic, I will quote those posts here so we can continue.

GohanWinner
I agree with you on most of the stuff there. Except for hating the second movie though.

I hate the art in the current series. Jim Lawson lost all his talent. Peter Laird, unfortunately doesn't see taht.

AND YES SHREDDER NOT DYING IS SO FLIPPING ANNOYING.

@!___@

And I especially agree on the part about the old toon. I've gotten a lot of crap from people because of it. "You're not a real fan!" They say. "BLASPHEMER!" They say. And I just laugh and know that they enjoy somethign that's as ninja turtles-ish as um. Something not Ninja Turtles. XP I think I'll be getting the second season even though I can't stand the show. ...XD I'm a sad person.

Lady Leonardo
Todd and I were watching the second season last night and yeah that's when I realized that the only reason I'll even watch it is to make fun of it. But it's like Care Bears for me. I loved it as a kid and it isn't painful to watch (I can't stand to watch Thundercats now for instance so I try to just remember how I loved it as a kid) so I will.

Seriously though... I hate oldschool April... with a passion.

GohanWinner
OHGODMETOO. D: Old school April is so annoying. But at least she's not like...albino. XD But yeah...

I don't know what If eel about Thundercats....partially because I haven't seen it in ages. lol I wasn't really into it as a kid, but when they ran it on Toonami a while back I watched it. I'm not sure if I watched it to make fun of it or if I actually enjoyed it. XD

Lady Leonardo
April is REALLY damn pale now... but I love her. I was a little iffy at first because the only April I'd liked was movie April but yeah I love the new one. April and Casey really are just one of my favorite pairings ever!

Speaking of Casey WHAT the hell did they do to him in the old show? He was absolutely insane?!

And I can't watch Thundercats now, it's too cheesy. That's why I haven't watched the old He-Man, Transformers or GI Joe because I'm worried I'll feel the same way. I'd rather remember the way I used to love them.

GohanWinner
Understandably so! I've never been a nostalgic person and most of the stuff I liked as a kid...if I see it again, I'll accept right away "Wow, that's no good." Or even without seeing it sometimes. That's how I was with the old TMNT. As I got older, I really stopped liking the old toon, even though I hadn't seen it in a while. Although I loved it when I was little. (But, my major TMNT passion was the first movie. Man I had that MEMORIZED as a kid)

And yes, I love new school APril too. biggrin I don't think I have anythign to elaborate onw ith that sentence though.

*Is now going to watch the old toon so taht he can have a good ol' laugh*

~Destiny31~
Soooo Lady Leo, what do you like about TMNT?....

GohanWinner
That certainly was an accusing sounding question.

Here's at least part of an answer (I believe I can at least partially answer, as I agree with her on pretty much every point)

The movies, the NEW toon, the characters themselves, the interaction between them, the story, the concept and the action.

smile

Lady Leonardo
That did have an accusing sorta tone but it's a perfectly valid question at the same time. 3nodding

It comes down to loving the characters. If I don't like the characters then I'm not going to give a damn about whatever show/comic/etc. they're in. That's why if I were to watch the old cartoon today (having not seen it before) I wouldn't be so into it. In the original cartoon they each had their own personality yeah, but they BARELY had their own personality. They were basically the same but with minor tweaks. In the current cartoon, the movies and the comics they all have their own very distinct personalities. It's easy to see yourself or others in the characters which I think makes them all the easier to love.

CrazyRob
i'm not going to respond to everything, but i did want to note that i know what you mean about not feeling the same about stuff you loved as a kid. i used to love he-man back in the 80's. then, they aired it again sometime in the 90's and i was like:

eek i used to like this show? this dude just picked up a large boulder with no problem. wtf? eek

so...uh...yeah. i still like thundercats though razz

AnuKat
I was disappointed when I first learned about Oroku Pimiko, Saki's... Daughter!?
Saki should be Childfree. He seems like the type. It's depressing thinking of him making babies with someone other than me. domokun Even though I would abort it it's all about the fact he ******** some other biotch.

I also didn't like the movie as much as I'd hoped.

I'm not a fan of the comic but I was young when introduced to it and so stuck in the old toon that I judged it based on the artwork which isn't my favourite.

I also hate the New Toon's theme song.

I'm a rabid Shredder fan.

S-X- Dual Personalities
-I hate the "Red Sky" episodes of the old toon with a passion. The turtles all mutated into savage, fugly monsters with the queerest (in every sense of the word) powers, and they couldn't do a damn thing until that p***k "Carter" arrived. At least April developed a little in those episodes.

-Lawson's Turtles are okay, his dinosaurs are damn fine... but what the Hell is up with this humans? They're all square and stuff! They make the art on "The Batman" look smooth!

-I hate the fact that (spoilers in white) April is a ******** drawing that her dad made, brought to life with the same kind of crystal that Jack "King" Kirby had in that Donny adventure. How crack-headed is that?

-I thought that Next Mutation was all right, and that Venus wasn't a bad character, but she was handled wrong. If someone other than the cheeseball Saban company had the license and had the same characters, I believe it would have worked infinitely better.

-More than any other art, I hate the uber-crappy goofy art-and-story for issues like TMNT (Vol. 1) 39-40, or Archie TMNT Special #8.

Lady Leonardo
I will second your total "WTF?!" feeling with the spoiler there. That was... yeah. What the hell? confused

And personally I still don't see Venus ever really "working", but that's just my opinion obviously.

GohanWinner
I would have accepted Venus much better if she were explained ins ome way OTHER than how she was.

"Oriteiremembertherebeingafifthturtleintheoozewithus."

SHUTUP!

Lady Leonardo
*L* It's like when they do the whole "it was all a dream!" thing but even more retarded!

I hate that they suddenly threw a fifth turtle in there who of COURSE was female and brings with her the knowledge that they weren't blood brother so y'know... it's okay if she hooks up with one of them. stare

S-X- Dual Personalities
I forgot:

-I also cannot watch the old school TMNT without finding it totally cheesy, although I still love it.

-Bishop and Baxter. 'Nuff said.

I've been wondering this for a while, actually.

S, why doncha like Bishop? I don't mind him, although I don't totally understand his motives/reasons for doing things/why he can take on the turtles, Hun and Leatherhead all at once.

And I agree with Baxter. That guy just needs to die.

How can you survive as just a brain and eyeball? Seriously! xD Although, in the toon's defense, comic Baxter was about as disembodied as toon Bax.
PostPosted: Sun Sep 25, 2005 7:05 pm

Bishop's a total pain in the a**. He's like this government agent who turns out to be uberly-powerful... it's just totally Deus ex!

That and I have this sneaking suspicion that the government's already made dudes like him... -_-

Fair enough. ^_^ I too, dislike Bishop's unstoppability. (Coined phrase!) It's rather annoying. And if they don't have a good reason for it, I'll be ticked. ~_~;
PostPosted: Mon Sep 26, 2005 9:22 am

Things to hate, huh? Well, here's MY list (feel more than free to disagree!):
*Bishop -- he's that megalomaniacal type that always pushes the "can I kill him now, please!?" button of mine. And I'm sure they'll make him a cyborg thing as well, just like the Utrom's human skeleton walkers . . or whatever they'd be called . . and even for a kids' show I think that's becoming just a copout.

*How the Archie Turtles' comics were the best drawn overall (meaning BOTH Turtles and humans/partial humans look like they're drawn okay) but they started going overboard with all the environmental stuff . . stare Ya know, if you can't do better then to mindlessly recycle Captain Planet-type stuff regardless of little things called FACTS then don't expect me to enjoy it as anything other than an irritation . . Have these people never taken Raph's advice and read Jurassic Park!? We aren't Goku, Vegeta, Cell or Broly from DragonBall Z here . . we can't destroy the planet . . humankind ain't THAT smart!

*I agree with the whole assanine business of "oh, now I do happen to remember that there was somebody else with us in the jar and ooze" explanation of Venus' existence . . it was almost as irritating as having to endure Next Mutation's Mikey flexing for her in order to attempt getting her attention . . stressed Still, I will more than proudly admit that I like Venus as a character -- like S I think she, and the whole NT series, were handled VERY poorly. Pity her, for she's been touched by Saban and that's an albatross around one's neck that NO character should have to endure on their first time out of the starting block!

*Speaking of NT, I always hated the car parts because 1)Leo was driving (we all see him get behind the wheel!) and yet for some reason they not only had the humvee built so that the driver sits on the right (like in Britain(?) and Japan) and just flipped the picture!? Did they think we wouldn't notice what with all their MASSIVE shot recycling??? 2)Leo, if yer gonna insist that everyone buckle up (like yer spewing some After School Special stuff) then for heaven's sake don't act like it's perfectly fine for those in the very back to stand up while the car is in motion!!!! stare

*Only real things I hated about the 2nd movie were 1) the whole Dandelion thing -- am I crazy to think that anyone who's obviously sober and at least reading at a 6th grade level would be perfectly capable of looking at a dandelion the size of a person's head and NOT HAVE TO SNIFF IT TO IDENTIFY IT!!!? 2)the computer with a halo and how Don can magically go "except for this one" while the screen is still scrolling down to the missing canister . . are we supposed to assume that he went ahead and told it to scroll to any missing ones, or is Don-san suddenly psychic? stare

*As for the 3rd movie . . well, I didn't mind the plot . . woulda loved for it to have "real" special effects rather than making Leo look like his arm alone was having an epileptic seizure . . Don should know that frogs can't possibly be their ancestors since frogs are amphibians and turtles are reptiles (somehow I smell that Old Cartoon screwup in the air being responsible here . .) and would it have killed them to give us more subtitles for what's said by the village people, Kenshin, and the Scepter Guards??? Sure I know a bit of Japanese and can crow about being able to 'translate' some of it for myself . . but my brain hurts from trying to decipher the rest of it. Oh yeah, last -- but not least -- Leo does CPR on Yoshi incorrectly which stands out like a sore thumb to me now after taking a basic First Aid class . .

Oh! don't think I'm wailin' on Leo here . . it's just a none too happy coincidence that he's wracked up so many checks on my 'irk-o-meter'. Really, I forgive him . . after all, it ain't his fault -- it's in the script!! wink

What I didn't like about movie 3 was the Turtles' ineptness with the Japanese language... Splinter's fluent, so you'd think that his boys would at least pick up a little, no? Don says "Ohayo wasabi" ( -_- ) means "hello mustard" when it's actually "good morning horseradish". Jeez...
PostPosted: Mon Sep 26, 2005 9:42 am

Yeah I wouldn't expect the Turtles to be fluent in Japanese (well except Leo and maybe Donny though I don't know that even he would) you figure they'd know the basics. Apparently Splinter just decided not to teach them any of that.

For those of you who don't like the TMNT 2003 or 2005 theme song, it could have been a lot worse. This song was distributed on a promotional Fox Box CD (which, sadly, I don't have... it even had TMNT stickers and an exclusive comic...), which I later obtained in MP3 form from... somewhere. Anyway, due to the fact that I'm on dial-up and am only online a limited amount of time per day, I may not be able to send anyone the MP3, although I'll try to find a place where one can download it. Anyway, just be glad we didn't get stuck with this...

For fifteen years we've trained without distraction
Now it's time for ninja kick butt action
Trying to find a place but we don't know where we're headed
All we know for sure, don't wanna get shredded!

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles
Shell shock, time to rock

You'll never see us coming, won't know what hit you
We practice Teenage Mutant Turtle stealth Ninjitsu
Keeping to the shadows were we walk among ya
When it's time to strike, it's "Cowabunga!"

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles
It's a whole new shell game!

*cough* I actually abhor each 4Kids' theme's use of the incorrect "Ninjitsu" instead of "Ninjutsu" or "Ninjyutsu".

These are just some random things I was laughing about on the phone with Ivey yesterday. Not necessarily things I dislike but they're sorta, wtf?!

Disclaimer: Um guys... I am a TMNT fan y'know. See the name? Honestly I've been questioned twice now! But these are JOKES, not things that make me want to rip my eyes out or anything. They're funny... I think.

* Once again, their weapons. Donny's bo is obviously titanium painted to look like wood, Raph shouldn't be able to pick locks with his sai, Leo's non-katana (that isn't even a katana, thus "non-katana") cuts through metal like butter (Ginsu!), and um... actually no real complaints about Mikey... well I mean in the game he can fly... but y'know that's just funny. xd

* The choice sound bites they put in the games... oh lord. Leo sounds like a complete tool, so much that even my inner Cyclops (yes I have an inner Cyclops... he lives in my a**) wants to smack him. And honestly do they not think before they let Donny speak? That poor guy and his gay gay lines...

* Call the Rev. Al Sharpton! The NAACP needs to hear about the tragedy that hath befallen Baxter Stockman in the 80's! They took his brain, they took his sanity and they made him WHITE! (Note: No NAACP debates, kay guys? It's a joke.)

* Back to the old toon what the hell were they on when they adapted that? Okay everyone was OOC I get it but where did Reporter!April come from? I honestly think I may have liked her if she wasn't a reporter. To me it always seemed like she would sell the Turtles for a story if the payoff was big enough. I didn't get a serious loyalty vibe from her.

* Insane!Casey, Wus!Shredder, Leatherhead's stupid outfit... the list goes on. Looking back I can't remember if they made Usagi OOC, does anyone remember? I've always loved Usagi. whee

Okay I'll stop now before people FREAK on me or something. I don't need any riots! talk2hand

Your little spiel there, Lady, is both hilarious and true.

-According to Dan Berger (I asked him this a while ago), the katana was the only Japanese sword name that Kevin & Peter knew, so they just called the swords they gave Leo (obviously ninjatou) katana. He says, that Kevin and Peter knew next to nothing about martial arts, and only researched things that would totally bone the storyline if they didn't know what they were talking about.

-Don's bo broke on several occasions both in the Mirage comics, and the old cartoon. I think it at least broke once in the new one.

-The whole "Baxter is an indignified white geek" thing boggles me to this day. If you check my Baxter profile on my website (www.thes.mysitespace.com), you'll notice that I said he went from being a "respected, wealthy African-American scientist" to a "nerdy, whiny, poor Caucasan guy with low self-esteem". I mean, Mirage & 4Kids Baxter may be nuts, but he's evil-nuts. Old-school toon Baxter was loser-nuts.

-I think April was a reporter for a VERY brief amount of time in the Mirage continuity.

-All I remember about Usagi in the original toon was that there was humans in his dimension. Crack-headed stuff. What Season did he first appear, again?

Tears for Fears

All around me are familiar faces
Worn out places, worn out faces
Bright and early for their daily races
Going nowhere, going nowhere
And their tears are filling up their glasses
No expression, no expression
Hide my head I want to drown my sorrow
No tomorrow, no tomorrow
And I find it kind of funny
I find it kind of sad
The dreams in which I'm dying
Are the best I've ever had
I find it hard to tell you
'Cos I find it hard to take
When people run in circles
It's a very, very
Mad World
Children waiting for the day they feel good
Happy Birthday, Happy Birthday
Made to feel the way that every child should
Sit and listen, sit and listen
Went to school and I was very nervous
No one knew me, no one knew me
Hello teacher tell me what's my lesson
Look right through me, look right through me
