First, allow me to explain the three main types of roleplay. They are
• Semi Literate: Semi-literate roleplays generally make use of various marks [ *, -, ~, ( ), and so on ] to indicate actions, and Quotation marks are not needed to indicate speech. Posts tend to be a few sentences long. Proper grammar and spelling are appreciated but not necessary.
• Literate: Actions, scenery, emotions, and thoughts are indicated without the use of any extra marks. Speech is indicated with quotation marks [ " or ' ]. Proper Grammar and Spelling are encouraged. Posts tend to be a few sentences long, about the length of a paragraph.
• Elite Literate: Actions, scenery, emotions, and thoughts are indicated without extra marks. Speech is indicated with quotation marks. Proper Grammar and Spelling are mandatory. Posts are usually several paragraphs long. Generally the writing resembles that of a novel.
Some people have preferences about the level at which they play, so it's helpful to include the Literacy Rating in your RP title.

Some terms of roleplaying:
Setting: This is the time, the place, the world in which your story takes place. This includes a specific era, the kind of culture your characters will be experiencing, the type of animals and plants found in this world. This effects the sort of characters your roleplayers can have.
Casting: When starting a roleplay, having a cast of characters already established often helps iron out any confusion. A roleplayer can play more than one character, and these characters may not have anything to do with that roleplayer's avatar.
Plot Devices: Plot Devices keep the story going. Romances, wars, illnesses, natural disasters, are all examples of plot devices.

On Role Play Discussions:
Role play discussions are threads people post when they are putting together a role play. This is where the setting is announced and laid out so people have an idea what kind of world they'll be playing in. People who are interested in joining can post and announce who their characters are. Role players can explore which character knows whom. Bonds of kinship, friendship, or romance can be established between characters.
When expanding on your Characters, it's a good idea to give a written description of your character's personality, as well as the usual statistics like Age and Species. Some may also include a written description of the character's appearance. Others prefer to use a picture they've found on the internet. Having too many images in a thread slows a thread down however, so I advise that you post a link in your post rather than an image.

Please Note! Gratuitous violence, sexual content, drug use, explicit nudity, and mature language are NOT appropriate for the Gaia forums. You will be warned, and repeat offenders will be reported and possibly banned.
Other behaviors that will not be tolerated are
• God Modding: When your character is invincible or powerful in a way that makes it inconvenient to other role players and the plot as a whole. If you win every time, or pull off some incredible magical-ability-enhanced ability every post, or if you never show any strain from your powerful tactics and basically keep going like a war machine, or you're somehow omnipresent and KNOW everything before it happens, you're god-modding, and you will be asked to stop.
• Obnoxious OOC: OOC stands for Out Of Character. Within the roleplays themselves, OOC should be kept to a minimum. OOC should NOT be used for personal drama. If you have a beef with someone, take it to the PM's. Do Not argue or call each other names in the roleplay forums.
