User Image The night was warm and humid, having yet to truly cool down and hanging in the air like an uncomfortable blanket. The hum of the insects which usually lulled her to sleep with their promises of safety seemed abnormally loud. The cacophony combined with the heat and sticky air, refuting sleep and inciting an unusual level of irritation in the normally calm Nightmare who now sought some refuge from these things which made the inside of her skull feel as though it were itching from the discomfort. Some quiet, or coolness, or a distraction at the very least.

Her tongue flicked the air restlessly, finally grasping a taste of one of the things she sought; a fairly large body of water. Oh, thanks and blessing to the powers that be! Relief flooded her and she rushed forward, nearly miss-stepping and falling to the ground a number of times in her blind haste. She slowed after a few stumbling recoveries, but not by much, only truly slowing and then stopping when she felt glorious water and cool mud coat her paws and lower legs.

It was only then that she noticed the way everything around the spot seemed to have fallen silent, and an uneasy feeling passed over her. Somehow, though she tried to convince herself the sounds would soon return, a heavy feeling settled in her gut that told her this silence was caused by something far more unsettling than a young adult Nightmaren without care enough to be cautious in her haste to find relief from the sweltering summer night.

User ImageHe had been dead for who knew how long. Once you had passed, telling time was the last of your concerns. Time was spent idling away, doing what you pleased or simply wondering how. How with all the powers in the world did one defy Death. Anyone with eyes could see that the strange two-legged Nightmare was dead. What with the lack of flesh and anything, but bone around his neck. He sported a single bone tail and lacked an arm and both his ears, yet it was hard to tell if the loss of those things happened during the cause of his death (or perhaps even were).

He certainly wasn't about to tell. And with the simple way in which he carried himself, that feeling he gave off, his 'battle scars' were probably not even related to his final breaths (and who quite cared for breathing, it was a rather useless task).

His single hand lifted, gently pressing against a tree as the sounds of the wilderness died (as they seemed to do when he was around). He had no ears, but that did not mean that he couldn't hear; simply that he could not hear as well as someone with ears. Sounds were softer and it was rather difficult to tell what direction a sound was coming from. Even with his bright golden eyes, getting about was a task, but one he learned to deal with quickly. Blind, dampened hearing, his other senses were at their peak.

He scowled as a bug brushed past, knotting itself in his hair momentarily before breaking free. His teeth clamped, his tail coiling up in a rather stressed manner. "
Tch." his tongue flicked out if only for a moment, (he did not pirticularly take to using his tongue all that often). Slowly he made his way through the trees, and it seemed as though the silence was growing quieter still. "You don't belong here, do you." His voice was dry and there was something quite controlling about his tone. Golden orbs shifted, he was quite aware as to what he was talking to, he just wasn't all that sure where.

Peculiar. Peculiar. Tamri swiveled her head toward the voice that spoke to her, tongue flicking rapidly to try and discern what it was. Or he, perhaps, if the voice belied anything like gender. All she tasted was an air of dead flesh that seemed to have survived past the point of rot and simply sat, smelling dusty and perhaps a bit of mildew. There were none of the rapid nerve firings that occured in a living thing that allowed her a sort of psuedo-sight, or at least a sense of what creatures surrounded her. This one, this one... was most certainly dead.

Her stomach sank a bit lower even as her curiosity lit afire. A bit frozen in place with her indecision she didn't quite register the fact as her feet sank a bit into the thick mud of the lake. She was fortunate she had not ventured in very deep.

"I have never here before, that I know of. Though I do not know if I could sssay whether I belong here, or if I belong sssomewhere elssse more, or if I belong nowhere at all jussst yet." A bit cryptic, perhaps, but her mind was still spinning, trying to figure out the situation, whether she was in danger, whether or not it was actually safe to be more candid to the fellow with her answers. "Do you belong here then?" She did not know whether to feel fear or not, and it was simply not in her nature to be aggressive unless one of her loved ones were in some sort of danger. All she really felt at the moment was... confused and hesitant.

His head turned, his hand reaching out to the side and feeling about for a nearby tree to lean against. Sitting on the ground wasn't quite an option for the male. It was far from comfortable, and happened to be so low down not quite something he liked. The living corpse would have seated himself upon something like a boulder, but he wasn't in the mood to look for one of those. No he was busy with other things, other thoughts.

He pressed his back against the tree as his hand came into contact with it, his single bone tail cricking and cracking as it wound around the trunk, scraping off bits of bark. His head turned back, eyes searching for something he could not see. They soon fixed themselves in the other's general direction. "
Oh. You're one of those. Just my luck, I get to talk to another rolling-S." Eyelids droped in a less then amused form, as he tapped his nails against the tree trunk.

"
You just come waltzing in here like you own the place. Well listen here, Freak, this is my...turf -if you will- and you're disrupting my silence." Turf. Not exactly true (and not quite a word he'd really use more then once), as he didn't own the place either, nor did he ever stake any claim on it, but it was the general area in which he tended to wander and silence was often what he demanded (you would be amazed at how even one with dampened hearing had a hard time finding the perfect silence).

Tamri bristled slightly. How dare he! Another Nightmaren, however odd, making such degrading remarks about her lisp. She opened her beak to utter an angry rebuke, that she had tried to get rid of it, that she had little choice in the matter, but suddenly hung her head instead. "It would be ill done of me to take my irritatssion out on you, however rude you are. But believe me, I wisssh I could be rid of asss much asss you might. I have tried."

She tried to move and finally discovered her impromptu imprisonment. With an exasperated trill she heaved one paw loose, and then tried to use it to free another... succeeding only in trading one paw for the other. "Well, sssincsse you're asss much a freak asss I and fate ssseemsss to be feeling funny tonight, you ssshall have to put up with me for a while longer if you wisssh to remain in thisss placsse. I ssseem to be ssstuck." She shifted, trying to rear up on her hind feet to extricate both front paws at once, but once again managed only to get her hind feet stuck further in the muck and have her front paws settle into the mud again when she realized the fact. "Very ssstuck."

Normally she was calm, exuded it to the point that those around her were calmed by the aura of her own calm if they allowed themselves to be. But tonight seemed intent on sending her one irritation after another.

A tch passed his lips as it often did as he waited for a response or at least the sound of the female leaving. He would have simply prefered that she had done the later, but was lucky enough to be gifted with a reply. He was yet again forced to listen to that rolling-S dribble. "Oh I'm sorry! I wasn't aware that you had tried to get rid of it. MY mistake. It's completely different if you tried to get rid of it." His sarcastic tone could be well heard, he had brushed off the rude comment the moment the word had left her maw.

Had Deg had ears they would have twitched rather irritated as the sounds of splooshing and splooshing echoed in the air. The water, the mud, and the other's large body strugling to get out, followed by that voice of her's. A sigh passed sounding irritated beyond belief as he crossed his arms arm. "
Well I would offer my assistance, but I don't quite feel that I really care enough to. And I am far from in the mood to end up having to pick mud from my hair."

It was just his luck that the female would have gotten stuck in the mud floor, that he'd be stuck having to listen to her shatter his silence under she managed to free herself or perhaps even died should it come to such a thing like that. He would secretly pray that she free herself and soon, death was such a temperamental thing. You never quite knew if it would be final or not. Certainly he could just up and leave, he could head far enough so that his dampened hearing could no longer pick up the subtle sounds of her struggles to free herself. But there was that fire that burned within him, he couldn't allow himself to be 'kicked-out' of somewhere in which he had chosen to come (or rather wandered into) unintentional or not, she wasn't about to push him away from where ever it was they were. No matter how annoying she seemed to be in the short amount of time they had somewhat become acquainted (though that probably wasn't a word the male would use to describe the current situation).
