Aapep had never really liked the water that much, but he was able to put aside his dislike for the waves. The ocean was like no other water he had ever seen. It moved in great sweeps and every wave was tipped with white. It rolled towards him, almost as if it wanted to soak him through, then fell to gently lapping at the sand...

...And his paws.

And with the bright, innocent laughter that came with the joys of childhood, Aapep ran back and forth on the sand, splashing through the waves as they chased up to him.

His energy seemed eternal, perhaps fueled by the fresh sea air, the sounds and the senses all around him. He couldn't believe, after all the time travelling, that they had finally arrived at the sea!

The ocean was amazing, it was even better than Kirjava had ever dreamed it to be. She had never imagined that she would actually get to see the ocean in her life-time. But here she was, lying in the sand of the beach with the waves rolling in not too far away from her. The waves rolling in and out was a sound she was starting to enjoy. It was a nice break from the savannah.

Aapep was playing not too far away her, his playfulness was nice to see. At least he was attempting to play with the water, which was a first for him, since she knew his slight aversion to water.

It was his time to patrol the borders of his pride. Ravi just got done teaching Sen about being a guard some time ago. It was a comforting feeling to know that his family was safe. Family. The thought of them made him smile. His little cubs were growing up right before his very eyes. To him, it felt like they were just born yesterday and now, they're almost reaching his chest.

His ears flicked forward as he caught the sound of something playing in the water. Immensively curious as to who had wandered all this way to the shore, he started walking in the direction of where the sound was coming from.

He splashed in the glitter of a fresh wave, the smile wavering only when a wave threatened to roll up against his sides rather than keep to his ankles.

Then, with a whoop of joy he bounced away from another large wave and charged up onto the sand, leaping at the last moment to tussle with his mother.

"Isn't it wonderful?" He asked. "It's the end of the world!"

Just as she was about to get up and go into the water herself, Kirjava was suddenly attacked by her son. She laughed softly as she wrapped her paw around Aapep's form and nuzzled him, "It does look like the end of the world, huh?"

She touched her nose to his nose affectionately before she pawed at him playfully. Slightly wet and sandy from her son, she'd get him back in no time. "Are you having fun? It's amazing!" She nodded.

It didn't take Ravi too long to hear the sounds get louder. It sounded like two lions were here and having fun. At the one's voice, it sounded almost like a cub. A mother and cub, perhaps? He hoped so, he didn't want to start any trouble, especially with a family of his own not too far from here.

But, he would have never imagined the sight before him, not in a million years. Just as he was walking forward, two figures were slowly coming into view. It was a mother and her son. Hold on. He paused in shock and surprise. He knew that lioness, knew her very well in fact. Although he would have never have imagined that she would have come to the ocean. And the cub, he could only conclude that it was a sibling. It was his mother!

He wasn't sure what to be feeling, there were so many emotions running through him that he almost felt the desire to cry of happiness. Taking a few cautious steps in their direction, he hoped his mother would recognize him because the last time they had parted, he had not been as grown nor as tall as he was now. Plus, his mane had finally grown out.

Gently, "Mom...?"

He nodded happily and nuzzled the side of his face against her chest, purring loudly. He didn't think he could be happier! "Uh huh. The sea is amazing, mother. I can't believe a place like this exists! It's like magic!"

He rolled over onto his tummy, giggling as he scratched his back against the sand.

And then he was aware of a presence and he turned his head to see a giant of a lion standing close by. He was huge with a full, thick mane and a well-set face.

Aapep might have been scared in that moment, might have felt in danger. But he didn't. Because he knew who that lion was. He knew it as instinct, as if it had been written into his mind at birth.

The red pelt, that stunned look.

It was his brother. He was sure of it.

He rolled onto his belly, brought both ears forward and paused, not sure what to say or do. His throat felt thick, words were meaningless and suddenly his heart was racing so fast he thought it would burst.

And then the lion spoke and he let loose a held breath.

"Ravi..." The name was said in a quiet breath, but his mother might have been close enough to here.

As she listened to her son's words, Kirjava couldn't help but raise her paw to tickle Aapep's stomach lightly. It had just been very tempting and she couldn't resist.

Though, the sound of a new voice broke her attention away from her son. When her gaze shifted to the newcomer, her eyes widen as her breath was caught in her throat. She heard Aapep's soft voice as it rang in her head. Ravi! It really was him! She felt all her emotions rush forth.

She hadn't seen him for so long, he has grown up without her. With her paws, she pushed herself up to greet him. "Ravi." She gave him a warm smile before she reached out to nuzzle him, "I've missed you so much." She murmured softly into his face.

It was when she took a step back and looked him over, he was not her little Ravi any longer. She could see life has intervened, those scars on his face made her wince. Where had he gotten those? What had happened since he's left her? She's learn out soon enough, but for now introductions were in order. She looked back at Aapep and motioned him to come forward, "Ravi, this is Aapep, your brother. Aapep, this is Ravi."

It was his mother. Ravi felt his heart swell as she noticed him. His eyes sadden as he watched her make her way over to him. She was weary, life was getting to her. Guilt had started to seep him, he should have stayed with her, to help her out. To think he had acted so foolish and cubbish back then, he chided himself angrily.

But enough of that, this was a joyous occassion and as such, he returned his mother's nuzzle just as affectionately. Only now, he was quite a bit bigger than her and had to lower his head slightly. "Mom...I've missed you too." He replied.

Once her touch was gone, he could feel her eyes looking him over. It felt piercing, like she could pick out all his secrets, and the hardest ones to hide were those that were scratched upon his face. His ears lowered slightly before his attention shifted to the juvenile by his mother. Aapep. His brother! His gaze shifted towards his brother, who looked so much like his mother. At least it didn't look anything like that male his mother was keeping company with. It was good because he did not think highly of the male. "Hello Aapep!" He was happy, just so happy.

Watching the scene unfold before his eyes Aapep felt a multitude of emotions. Disbelief, excitement, joy but most of all he felt shy. His ears had lowered respectfully and he stood quietly, watching his mother and the lion who he knew by instinct was his brother.

They looked so alike, but Ravi held a streak of green in his pelt that contrasted brilliantly against his red pelt. He as a big, strong looking lion who appeared to have gone through life with a few bumps and scrapes.

Then, when his mother introduced him a smile replaced the thoughtful expression and his ears picked up.

"H-hello." He shook his head and his smile widened. What was he supposed to say? He couldn't think of anything.

"We came to find you." He blurted after a moment. "Mother wanted to see you again and I wanted to meet you. I've not had a brother before now."

As Aapep came over, Kirjava let the two introduce themselves to one another. She couldn't help but feel her gaze lock on Ravi, watching his every move. They had lost so much time together and she felt partially responsible for the mess between the two. But she couldn't help but swell with pride at the fact that her son was still here, alive and well. There was so much to talk about.

"It is true. I told Aapep all about you and he was so anxious to go out and meet you. I had heard from some friends that you were at the ocean, but it's so large I wasn't sure if we'd get to find you." Her voice dropped slightly, "It's been so long Ravi, you must tell me everything."

His curious gaze watched his younger brother come closer and introduce himself. Ravi looked at Aapep and in his mind, he reckoned that he wouldn't be much older than his own litter. "It's nice to meet you, Aapep." He took a few steps towards his younger brother and bent his head forward to nuzzle him softly. With a playful look, "You're mane is growing in, before long you'll be bigger than Mom!"

And then, he felt his heart swell. They had wanted to come and see him! He had resigned in his heart that he might never see his mother again, but it appears that is not so. He had been blessed. "Did you really? I am so happy to hear that. I wasn't sure if I'd ever see my Mom again...much less think I had a little brother!"

At his mom, his gaze shifted towards his feet nervously, he knew that'd come sooner or later. "A lot has happened since...I left you." To put it delicately, "I have a mate now, Mom. We just had a litter not too many moons ago. Five, healthy cubs. They would be your cousins, Aapep."

Aapep waited quietly as his mother spoke, sensing the emotion swelling to new heights. He could feel the excitement, the trepidation. Yet there was something solemn too, though he was unsure why. Then Ravi stepped forwards and Aapep found himself dwarfed by the lion’s size. Would he, one day, be that big too? It was hard to imagine.

He lifted his head high to accept the nuzzle, feeling something snap into place in his heart. Mawi Mai loved her sister so. They were best friends and he had always wished that he knew how that felt: to have a sibling you were close to. Could he get close to Ravi in that way despite the distance between them? He hoped so.

“I hope so. Then I can take good care of her. That way you won’t have to worry about her anymore.” He chirped.

His eyes widened. “Cousins? Really? Do I get to meet them too?” His family was getting bigger. His heart felt it would burst with joy.

“Did you hear that mum? We’ve got more family!”

If this was to be Kirjava's last day on this earth, she would have passed on happy. There were no words, nothing to describe what she was feeling right now. To see Ravi, all grown up, it just left her speechless. She let her gaze shift to her two sons, feeling her heart swell with pride. They would get along very nice, regardless of the distance between the two, she knew that things would be well.

But then, her ears perked up. A mate? Cubs? What had she missed! Her eyes widen slightly at the news, "A mate and cubs? Oh Ravi....it has been too long! I would love to meet them." Grandcubs! She was a grandmother....while before she would have cringed at the word, she was not. It actually brought about a very different emotion in her. Excitment! It had been so long since she felt as liven as she is now.

She could feel Aapep's excitment and happiness, it was contagious. "I hear that! This is wonderful news!" And she had been afraid that Ravi would be alone for the rest of his life, but to find out that he had a mate and family gave her heart a rest.

With a soft chuckle, Ravi looked at Aapep. He liked his little brother's attitude, he had a lot of spunk. That was good, something to keep his mother on her toes. "I am glad to hear that. Although, I don't think I won't ever stop worrying about her." He always worried about her, and he still would, but it reassured him that his little brother would help look after her. "You'll be big and strong for Mom, so I can worry less."

"I will tell you all about it, Mom. It's a very long story that I know you're waiting to hear." Along with the scars that he bore on his face and body from the ordeal.

To his little brother, "Of course! They will be very excited to meet you. I told my family all about my Mom but I had no idea that I had a little brother. This will be a surprise to everyone."
