As everyone knows, rats are prone to tumors, especially unneurted female rats.
Well about 5 months ago my rat started to grow a tumor under her right paw, and then shortly under her left paw. But from my research I knew that the tumors were not painful, but that they could take her weight away. So I began giving her that goopy vitmain suppliment (which she loves by the way).
But now there is this brownish dried stuff under one of her tumors, and I think its dried blood. These tumors have gotten so big its scsary, but I can't bring myself to bring her to a vet to have her killed. I used to work at a zoo and have heard the cries of rats and mice dying from the excess of carbon monoxide, which is why I never brang her to be put to sleep.
But now her pain is overwhelming, but my mom says that if I bring her to a vet to be put to sleep I will be charged with animal cruelty.
Does anyone know what I should do?
I have((well,had...))4 rats, now 3...Putting an animal to sleep is not animal cruelty,it is another way of ending the pain, a pain killer you could call it,but for animals. I know putting rats down is hard to do,but in a way,not wanting to let go makes you selfish. If you see the rat in pain,i would put it out of its misery no matter what your mother or anyone sais, its not like your locking it in a room with no food or water, and it has AIDs and Rabies...Im sure your rat will be fine,if they have to at the most they will amputate the legs...
