Ok, so our door hasn't been working lately. (It's the door that's inside the garage: not the garage door, but the door to the house IN the garage.) If you try to close it, 99% of the time it'll not close entirely because the little part that sticks out when you lock it gets in the way, so you have to turn the knob all the way until it's fully closed. We were planning on fixing it soon...
But today, Mom didn't lock the door before we left to eat dinner (today's my dad's birthday). And when we came home, it WAS locked. My dad tried to unlock it several times, and even after we all tried to force it open, it didn't work. The sane thing to do would have been to call a locksmith to open it for us, but that costs money, and we'd just spent a whole bunch of money on the awesome Japanese restaurant we went to.
Our only solution was to break into our own house.
The only window that was reachable and possibly open was mine. We got the ladder and tried to climb up, but the ladder (my first thought was the whole ladder-stepladder thing in Phoenix Wright) was too short and too wobbly. So I had to go next door to borrow our neighbors' ladder. "Hi, would it be okay if we borrowed your ladder for a bit?"
Our neighbor was kind enough to help us set up the ladder, get my dad on the roof (I couldn't go, I was wearing a skirt and shoes that would've made me slip off and die), and open my window. It was closed, but luckily, it was unlocked, so all Dad had to do was take off the screen and open my window to get in and unlock the front door to let the rest of us in. I got to get on the roof afterwards, to pick up the screen, because it was still on the roof~! Needless to say, we're gonna get a new doorknob.
All in all, it was a very memorable birthday for my dad, and a fun anecdote for me to share with you all. >w<

I hate ladders. I don't like heights, and ladders just make things worse.
But there was one other thing you could've tried...
YOU'RE A PEGASUS AND YOU COULD'VE FLOWN UP THERE! D= Why didn't you think of that?
Otherwise, glad you're getting a new doorknob. razz

@Amelia: INDEED. XD
@Rhys: I'm fine with heights, as long as I'm not at the very edge~ And what part of "I was wearing a skirt" did you not understand?! D:< I can't flash people willy-nilly, even if I am a pegasus! Aha, and thanks. I'm glad, too.
@Rath: Yessir! The Insurgents of the Lycian Alliance Against the Terror of Bern, AWAAAAY!!
