Sascher-tort lounged by the pool where her human also lounged. Aurelie-human was reading a book which had come by airplane along with a lot of other books. They had made a special trip into town to the post office to retrieve the books, and they'd barely been able to carry all the heavy things back to the cabin. Sasha had been a great help. She had prapped herself around Aurelie's ankles as they climbed the steps, and she had tried to climb up Aurelie's legs as they walked so she could perch on her shoulder. A great help!

She loved her Aurelie-human very much, but watching her read was boring. Still, she didn't want to venture too far from her beloved human, so she only wandered a little distance away, to the other side of the enormous tree which served as a recliner for Aurelie, who nestled in the roots like she had been raised in the woods, rather than in enormous manors in Europe.

On the other side of the tree, Sasch was surprised to see another palui.

Helios was just getting lost, like every other day. But what was this? Another palui?

Helios stared at the white and black figure intently. "Hi..." He muttered softly, staring hard at the stranger. "Um...Where...Am I?"

Sasha sat down abruptly and cocked her head at the fiery palui who had just spoken to her. Asked her a question, really. He wanted to know where he was, and she couldn't help him, because she had no idea. She had gotten here by following Aurelie.

"I don't know. Where do you think you are?"

Her blue eyes widened and her tail wrapped primly around her forepaws as she sat and waited for him to reply.

"I'm probably in your dreams, just some made up character that you think about subconsiencely...TO think..." Helios sighed, stroking his chestfluff gently. "That my entire life is a figment of your imagination...Although I do suppose this means I have to do everything you want me to...Hnm." The red fire palui shrugged, and wandered towards the pool.

What was that blue and white bobbing thing? Helios, of course, wasn't aware that it was a chlorine emmitter. "Can I...eat this? ...Master?" Helios called her master, adding to the 'figment of your imagination' theory.

Sasha blinked at him and his unusual, somewhat disjointed suggestion. Clearly she had not asked the right question at all. He most certainly was not in her dreams. Her dreams lately, when she remembered them, had featured lean, dark palui with glowing red eyes. She wondered what Aurelie would think of him. Probably not much. Aurelie didn't tend to notice much of anything when she was reading. Even Sasha at her most insistant couldn't usually stir Aurelie.

Her nose wrinkled delicately when the fiery palui asked about the chlorine thing.

"I wouldn't," she advised. "It's poisonous."

She had no idea if that was true, but it seemed the most expedient way to get him to leave it alone. He had no idea why he called her master, but she didn't like it.

"My name, by the way, is Sascher-tort," she said testily.

"Well Hello, then, Sascher-tort. I am most certainly not in your dream, YOu have a funny name." Helios said, while walking around. "Nice place you got here... I'm generally wild, so I'm not owned by a two-legger." Heliso looked back at her smiling, his tail flicking in the air. "You're cute. I feel sory for you." He lept onto the chlorine thing, despite her warnings, using his legs to paddle to the opposite side of the pool.

Once he got out, helios shook the water off of his feet, and lept twoards a half opened window. "Check it out! A banana!" Helios said, squeezing inside of the cabin. "Hope ya don't mind!"

Nothing was too dangerous or wierd for Helios. Not for a second would he ever accept boredom into his life.

Sasch didn't care in the slightest. It wasn't her Aurelie's cabin. It was just the cabin of the person who owned the pool. The pool's owner was someplace called The Mainland, and Aurelie came by to clean the pool once a day. She had permission to swim in it, but she never did, and Sasha was glad. She didn't like the way the chlorine made the water smell. It smelled like it would make a person very sick to drink it, and she didn't relish the idea of licking it off her fur, either.

That doesn't seem very safe, she thought to herself as she watched him paddle across the water. Especially not for someone who seems to be aflame at certain points of their anatomy.

"Help yourself," she called sweetly, wondering if she could somehow slam the window shut and lock him in there. She was instantly surprised at herself for the mean thought and sat firmly on her tail to help suppress the urge.

"OMG! There's a ton of fruit in here! Cmon!" Helios squealed, diving into the fruit bowl. With a little too much impact, the plastic bowl of fake fruit (Yep, fake) rolled sideways off of the table, the plastic bananas and pears spilling onto the floor, and well as Helios and the bowl. "Wait...Nevermind, this is magical fruit or something. Can't eat it." Helios announced, after obliviously gnawing on it.

"You're missing out on all the fun, Cmoooon!" He squealed again, trying to wriggle into the fridge.

Sasha suppressed a sigh. She wasn't interested in inedible fruit, either. She just hoped that the palui didn't end up burning the house down. That might get Aurelie in trouble. She didn't want Aurelie to get in trouble. She really did sigh, and then returned to Aurelie and forced her head between Aurelie's book and Aurelie's eyes. After repeating the process several times, Aurelie finally put the book aside, muttering, "What is it, girl? Did Timmy fall down the well again?"

The words made no sense to Sasha, but at least she had Aurelie's attention. Once that was grabbed, she darted around the pool and leapt up to the partially-open window's sil. Aurelie told her to get down, but clearly her human was being dense and not seeing the fiery palui within the house. She flattened herself and slipped inside and looked insistently at the other palui. Sure Aurelie saw him? She yowled to make her point.

"Sasha-babe, get out of there," Aurelie said, fumbling for keys. She opened the door and finally saw Helios. She groaned and wondered how she was going to get the wild palui out of the house without being burned.

Helios, after staring at Aurelie for some time, back slowly towards Sasch. "Stand still. Twolegs react to human stimulus..." A few more seconds of staring...

And Helios slid under Sascher-Tort, and darted off, trying to carry her away. "You're heavy!" He yelled, while darting off into the woods. "But if you refrain from gaining weight I think I can make it to Headquarters! DON'T GAIN ANY WEIGHT!"

IN helios mind, this was not running off with someone's beloved pet. In fact, he was proud of himself, thinking he had rescued a poor palui from slavery, or something.

Sasha shrieked in fury and raked at Helios with her claws.

"Put me down you imbecile! I will bite you hard if you do not. I may anyway." Sasha was Not Amused.

Aurelie, meanwhile, gave chase, her long legs well-suited to running, but her sedantary lifestyle robbing her of breath. Of course, if she conserved a little more of it for running and less for swearing at wild palui, that might have been a little different, but not much. She wasn't in great shape to be chasing palui through the woods. However, hearing Sascher-tort's enraged cries spurred her onward.

"SAY WHATNOW!?" Helios shrieked, excpecting Sascher to be alot less 'rawr!' and a bit more 'Yay!'. "WEll FINE then! GO back and be someone's pet! House training, rules, boredom... Every once 'n a while...You have to take a chance..." Helios huffed, stroking his chest fluff nervously.

Sasha licked her fur firmly back into order, repeatedly twitching muscles along her spine to make her fur lie flat, as it was supposed to. She was still Not Amused. How dare he imply that there was anything wrong with the way she lived? She loved her human, and her human kept her in a style to which she would never become accustomed if she was feral. Her tail lashed violently, outwardly displaying her vexation.

"I suppose hunger, fleas, and terror is so much better? Not to mention waking up cold and wet? Why would I want to 'take a chance' on that? I enjoy my life, and I neither need nor want to be rescued from it." She was controlling her temper because it would do no good to lose it, really, and if she looked at matters logically, he was larger than she was and flaming at some points.

"Besides. If I was going to abandon my Aurelie-human - which I would never do - it would take someone a great deal more persuasive than you to make me do it." Her temper was flaring up again, but she kept her snippiness to a minimum with an effort. Plus, her chagrin at even the thought of leaving Aurelie subdued her a little.

"I never said you'de have to ABANDON her! But do you have to be by her side, all the time?" Helios said, stroking his infinite chest fluff. "I bet you ALWAYS do what you master says." Helios said, smirking. He paused for a moment, and the turned around, starting to wander off. "A fire palui doesn't NEED anyone. We actually have a purposeful life. But whatever, hope you have fun." The red fire palui flicked his tail upwards, walking in the other direction.

That was fun.

As a matter of fact, Sasha rarely did as Aurelie told her to. At least, not exactly when Aurelie told her to do it. She preferred to let her human wait a while, to let her know that she was an independent creature, despite her status as a relatively pampered house palui. However, she was in enough of a pique with the palui who had, as far as she was concerned, attempted to abduct her that she was no longer inclined to speak to him at all, preferring to give him the silent treatment, as she would do to punish Aurelie when she went away for too long or when she didn't immediately comply with or understand Sasha's wishes.

That was the plan. However, the addendum that the red palui said about having a purposeful life, implying that her life lacked purpose, brought all sorts of hateful thoughts to her mind. She had heard it implied before that house palui were useless as a whole, only fit for adornment, and though she didn't understand why this was supposed to be insulting, she did understand that it was an insult, and she resented it. In actuality, she was proud that her Aurelie loved her and wanted to keep her in comfort and luxury. It indicated that she had value, that she was precious, and her life did, indeed have a purpose. She kept her human company and saved her from boredom and loneliness and defended the house against enemy invaders ranging from small insects to feral palui.

"Oh, yes, I can see that your life is just brimming with purpose," she said acidly, deliberately pitching her voice to carry, without actually calling after him. "It's so purposeful he probably can't even tell me what his purpose is."

She sniffed and flicked her tail disdainfully.
