Omoa happily bounced along the savannah, ducking under low branches and skipping through clear puddles of water. Though, a lot of them were actually really muddy, so she soon became very dirty. As much as she liked being dirty and not having to worry about silly things like that, the mud dried and became heavy, and was weighing her down.
She wandered around the area a little bit in search of a decent water hold to take a bath in. The cub figured Jethro wouldn't like it if she dragged mud (literally) into the den.

Uziwa couldn't remember the last time he'd been wandering on his own. For so long, he'd been part of a litter. A family... But eventually, he knew it was time to set out on his own. That's why he was wandering the rogue lands, tongue lolling out of his mouth contently. It wasn't long before thirst began to gnaw at him, and he idly shifted his wanderings... To find a watering hole to drink from.
It wasn't long before he came upon a pool of clear water. And he eagerly leaned down to lap up the lukewarm water, his tail twitching in contentment.

Omoa let out a thankful sigh and happily splashed into an empty side of the waterhole she had found. Finally, a chance to get all this mud off her! It had gotten so heavy once it dried, and carrying around a double weight was not that fun.
She didn't even notice the hyena cub at the other end taking a drink from the same pool until she spun around, tripped, and faced his way. The cub blinked; she had never seen such an animal before.
She wondered who it was. Tentatively, she spoke.
"Hello!"

Uziwa jumped slightly at the sound of the lioness's voice, before calming and looking to her. She was a cute little cub, he thought absently, wading into the water to get a better look at her.
"Hi! I'm Uziwa-mzao!"

"I'm Omoa!" she replied with a grin. This creature seemed friendly enough, she figured. Though she stayed put as he came closer to her instead of the other way around.
"What kind of lion are you?"

"I'm not a lion, silly. I'm a hyena!" Uziwa laughed, his tail wagging slightly behind him as he sniffed in Omoa's direction. "You're really silly!"

"A hyena?" she repeated, tilting her head to one side. "I've never seen a hyena before. I'm a lion!" Omoa added, puffing out her chest with pride. "Have you ever seen a lion before?"
She had never seen a hyena, this was true. She didn't really thing she had seen any animal with such a bright, vivid coat such a color as his. The cub thought he'd have a hard time blending in with the grasses of the savannah, like she could. But if he went swimming...watch out. His blue was probably the exact color of that one waterhole she had passed by not too long ago. It was a blue-green, pretty dark and murky. It was good water, and clean, but the coloring...it was odd.

"I've seen lots of lions before. I've seen ones much bigger than you," Uziwa teased absently, grinning at Omoa as his tail wagged behind him. And it was true. The young hyena had always been curious, even as a pup. He'd stuck his nose in plenty of places it didn't belong... Including the herds of some rather... Upset water buffalo.

Omoa playfully stuck her tongue back out at the hyena and splashed around some more. "Yeah, there are lots of lions that are bigger'n me. I'm small. But that's okay, 'cause I can fit in places they can't," she beamed at him. She eyed his moving tail behind him and cocked her head to one side.
"Why does your tail do that?"

At the mention of his tail, Uziwa turned to regard it almost curiously. He remembered chasing the fluffy appendage when he was still a pup, and the very thought made him grin. After he was sure that his tail was not doing anything unusual (it was only wagging) he turned back to Omoa.
"You mean wagging? My tail does that when I'm happy... It's..." Here he paused, trying to think of the lion's equivalent to a wagging tail. "It's kind of like when you lions purr."

"You wag your tail when you're happy?" Omoa grinned and looked behind her at her own tail. She tried moving it from side to side. It did. She tried moving it a bit faster, until it was going at a good speed. It was hard to keep up, and tiring.
"I can't do it that fast...but I can purr really good!" And she did; the thrumming noise in her throat made the air hum around her.

"Wow, you really can purr good! I can't purr at all, you know," Uziwa said, grinning and plopping down to sit near Omoa. It was nice, being able to just chat with a cub without the parents storming in, fearing he'd hurt the poor thing.

She giggled and sat down too. "What else can you do that I can't?" Trust it to children to acknowledge the differences between the species, recognize them for what they were, and laugh about them. Such is their brilliance.

"Mmmmm... I can howl, and bark," Uziwa said, grinning and letting out a short bark as an example.

She cocked her head. "Bark? Howl?" Then she jumped as he let out the yelp (probably the bark) and laughed. "Nope, I can't do that. I can hiss and growl, though!" And she did so, clawing the ground and playfully growling loudly at him with a smile on her face.
