(highlight for BD spoilers-ish) okay, i understand that doctors make a lot of money. and i see that the stock market can be a lovely place. but, seriously. the idea that the cullens have enough money to wear DIFFERENT designer clothes every day, along with the super-spensive cars and unlimited movies, plus the private island (which i suppose is powered by INVIsible solar/geothermal/wind turbines?!?!) with everything neccessary for life easily accessible there and all the money they've got for renovations...
it's not sane. NOBODY has that much free cash. speaking of which, 'unnoticed free cash' sits around the house and is easily taken away in FIVE THOUSAND DOLLAR INCREMENTS?? the heck what?!? opinions?

Do you remember that they're vampires and that they've been around for hundreds of years?

Well, Carlisle has been a doctor for centuries and value increases over time so it actually is possible for the Cullens to be ultra-super-rich

Don't you think investments over long times have a big outcome? I just wonder how they manage the legal things, gov't info- legal stuff, past records. Wouldn't someone eventually notice they've been around for more than a while...?

I don't think anyone would notice. I mean, one, they're vampires and could kill anyone who was suspicious. And two, with all that money, they could pay anyone to do anything.

Of course they're stinking rich. They're perfect.
I could understand the need for money to keep up appearances, but they just have way too much money that make them even more untouchable. It's like power abuse in an RP. :/ But then again, I guess swindling money doesn't hurt a vampire's conscience.

They have numerous bank accounts under different names. Alice could see what would happen in the stock market so it must be really easy for them to get money from that.

I think it's understandable that they have that much. They've been around for how long, as someone else mentioned long term investments and being able to predict the stock market goes a long way. But what I don't understand is how they can keep using the same names over and over again without anyone noticing. They've all gone to the best universities multiple times and with their grades wouldn't someone have remembered them?

They explained why they had money at one point. Or perhaps it was Stephenie. With Alice, they so easily have all the money in the world. They could win the lottery because of her. And investements and such....
It's not unrealistic when how it happened is explained.

They have nothing to spend it on so Carlisle has been saving for centuries. Alice is awesome and can see whats HOT and what NOT in the stock.

I would guess that they probably have gone through a few name changes throughout the years.
(I mean, it seems likely when Bella goes to the lawyer to get fake papers. Papers for fake identities, HELLO INVISIBILITY.)
When you think about it, food takes up anywhere from 65-90% of someone's income annually. So getting to keep that for over three hundred years in Carlisle's case...mmm yeah. Serious ca$h, ladies.

I can understand how they obtained all that money, but it just seems like a device to make the Cullens perfect. gonk What do they even do with the money they unfairly swindle by cheating the stock market with Alice's help? They spend it on islands, cars that haven't even come out yet, extravegant houses in various places in the world, etc. I hate how materialistic the Cullens are and with their money, they can have anything under the sun. They don't have to buy all those cars and large, elaborate houses in order to live as a "human". If anything, it just alienates them even more. :/ Why don't they put that money to good use and fund some charities instead of buying unreleased cars?

Carlisle seems like a big humanitarian. I am sure they give loads to charities and similar programs. As for being materialistic, Alice probably loves the clothes because they give her something to focus on that changes quickly over time. Forever is a very long time. Staying in fassion gives her something to do. Roselie has always been materialistic, she admits it. Carlisle and Esme don't seem like he really pays attention to or uses the finances that much, unless it is to buy medical supplies. Emmet and his game systems and TV's and all of them with the cars are probably the same as Alice with the clothes. Especially after being born when these things didn't exist or were just gaining interest, they are logical things for the Cullens to focus on. They are watching these things progress and change to keep them busy. The Island was probably something sweet that was made, like the cottage, to show that Carlisle knew what type of place Esme would like and gave it to her. When a women is given flowers, she focusses on their beauty. Not how much the flowers cost. The island is also a place that they probably escape to every once in a while, like Rosalie and Emmet go off on their own every once in a while. As for the identities, that was answered in Breaking Dawn.

Unless SMeyer said so somewhere, we can't assume anything. :/ BD is 700 pages of proof that we can's assume anything about the series anymore.
