Emer could not remember the last time she had been so angry. How could they let something like this happen, it was ridiculous. She had been escorted out of the hospital wing of the complex, and since then she had just been walking not paying attention to where she had been going. She blinked when she realized was standing in front of Orphues door.
She started knocking, and when the door wasn't opened immediately she started to pound on the door. She hadn't realized she had been crying, her face red with tears streaking down her pale cheeks.

The pounding on the door not only drew Orpheus from his napping it also had him suddenly surging up to his feet, he nearly tripped over his coffee table, and then flailed as he tried to keep from tipping over, "Coming!" He called, groping around for his glasses but gave up after a moment when he didn't seem to be able to find them.
He unlocked and then opened the door, he squinted a moment then tilted his head to the side, "Emer?" He could tell from her coloration of the Emer blob and her scent as well, he tilted his head to the side then reached a hand out to lay it on her cheek, running her thumb over his cheek.
He could tell from her breathing that she was upset, could feel her tears, and he looked instantly worried. Only something bad could make someone like Emer cry...

She took his glasses and slipped them on his face, as she walked past him into his place. "They took Kale." She managed to get out before the lump in her through stopped her from talking. She sank down onto his chair barring her face in her hands her shoulders shaking.
When she could speak again she looked up at him, "They said he had a genetic defect. They messed up in his DNA or something. He is stuck in the hospital wing and they won't let me anywhere near him. He could get really sick and they won't let me anywhere near him." Her voice caught again as her face fell into her hands for a second time.

Instantly he felt a pain in his chest, fear welling up as he wondered on why they would take the boy away from his mother when they were so perfect together. Emer was a good mother and... his mental rant ended as he heard her words and his eyes widened, "Defective DNA?" He murmured, trying to wrap his mind around what she was saying and he shook his head unable to do so.
"How sick? Is he going to be alright did they say?" He asked, wondering if he would be able to get closer to Kale then her because he was a teacher here. Given it was the hospital wing the techs would no doubt be in charge so he would have no influence there like he did in his classrooms.
"Come on Emer, lets sit." He said, wrapping a hand around her waist and led her over to the couch to sit.

She allowed herself to be lead over to the couch, and when they sat she curled up agaisnt him laying her head on his chest and wrapping her arms around his waist. She desperately needed the comfort of his arms around her. "He is not sick at all yet, but they are afraid he will get sick. So they stuck him in a sterial room with the other kids that aren't sick but have the defect." She wiped the tears from her face, but they still came. "That damn tech was so cold when he took Kale I wanted to strangle the man. The doctor they have seems like he cares, but everyone else don't seem like they give a rats a** about these poor kids."

Orpheus wanted to lie and say that the techs cared, he didn't know if they did and didn't want her to worry more because of his answer. They had their jobs in this place and he and the other teachers had theirs, it wasn't often he and the techs crossed paths aside from in the halls and even then few words were ever exchanged.
He leaned his head against Emer's and gave her the best smile he could conjuer, "I am sure the doctor will help them, that is what doctors are for." He said, doing his best to sound optimistic even as he worried. It may not be Ligeia and Ter who were sick but they were still children, some might even be children he'd worked with.

Emer lay against him, listening to his heart beat, letting his voice wash over her as he tried to comfort her. She had to bite her lower lip to keep the angry fear driven retort from escaping. It wasn't Orphues fault Kale was potentially in trouble, and she didn't want to push him away when she might need him more before all of this was over even though that was her first instinct.
She let the silence hang in the air for a few moments before she trusted her voice enough to speak again. "Can I stay here for a few days? I mean if it is too much of a hassle never mind.... I just..." The thought of going home, seeing all of Kale's things scattered around the apartment terrified her.

He gave a nod of his head, "I will see about finding a room for you." He told her, "I am sure that Ligeia will let you stay in his room, he sleeps in a hammock though... Ter's room is a mess that I wouldn't want you to risk yourself in and well... we are sitting on my bed though you could sleep here if you would prefer it to a hammock."
He had his office on a different floor from the one where the apartments were. He had a couch in his office that he could stay on while Emer was staying with them.

She swallowed, not realizing she would be kicking one of them out of their bed. ""Where would Geia sleep if I take his bed, or you for that matter. I don't want to put anyone out.... If you just give me some blankets and a pillow and I can just camp out on the floor. I don't mind." She sat up a little bit so she could look up into his face.
This was probably the most vulnerable he had ever seen her. In the years that they had worked together they had seen quite a few rough times, but she had always been able to handle it like it was nothing. But this seemed to have shaken her to her very core.

"If Ligeia lets you borrow his room he can stay on the couch and I will stay on the couch in my office. It won't be to much of a hassle since I am in my office... though I don't really go there unless I am picking up or dropping off files... Hmm." It would give him a chance and a reason to clean it up he supposed.
He looked down at her for a long moment before saying, "Things will be alright Emer, I am sure they are doing their best for him even as we speak. He is with them so they can keep an eye on him so the moment he starts to show any signs of illness they can work on reversing it." At least that made sense to him.
He really wished he had any idea of what was going on. If it were either of his boys he was sure he'd be in a condition similar to hers though... Even as old as they were he wanted to take care of his boys and keep them safe.

Emer nodded and tried to smile, "Okay, but I hate to put Geia out. I'll be just fine on the couch. Thank you for letting me stay here with you guys. It means alot to me." She mummred softly before reaching up and pressing a kiss agaisnt his cheek.

Orpheus gave a smile at the kiss before rising up to his feet, "I will get you some pillows and a clean blanket." He said before he walked to the small closet in the hall and fetched the things for Emer. He returned with them and laid them on the back of the couch, "You can stay as long as you like."

She smiled as she took the pillow and blanket from Orphues, pushing her dark hair out of her face. "I really appreciate this, Ter and Geia won't be to freaked out by all of this, will they?" She was nervous, she loved Ter and Geia, and she was pretty sure the boys liked her. But it was one thing to like someone when they went away, it was another when they where invading your space.

Orpheus shook his head, "I am sure they won't mind, they both like you. I mean even Ter seems to like you and hes a lot harder to win over then Ligeia is. I don't want you to worry about such things. How about I get us something to eat? I am sure you haven't eaten, have you?" He knew Emer, knew the workings of her mind, knew she wouldn't be thinking of her food when her boy was quarantined.
