The Land of Rice Fields is a small country sharing a border with the Land of Fire.
Orochimaru, a former Konohagakure ninja, took control of the country, and renamed it the Land of Sound.
Otogakure was Orochimaru's personal village. He founded it for the sole purpose of collecting ninja for his experiments, and his quest to learn all the jutsu in the world. The village was not contiguous, consisting of multiple assorted lairs located within the Land of Sound and outside it. Otogakure has been transformed with the help of other Hidden Villages such as Konohagakure and Sunagakure, despite their differences in the past, into a greater place to live.
Any rogue ninja that had made their homes here have been either imprisoned or executed, depending on their crimes. The village is now highly populated, serving as a home for any refugees or families looking for a new life. With the amount of rice exported, it has also grown to be a very wealthy country.
