An inspiration wall is commonly used by designers and artists. Based on the texture of a feather, the color of a child's eyes, a song lyric
or any number of other things that might inspire. It typically takes up a large section of a wall that has been painted and designated for this purpose.
.
Well I don't know about everyone else but I live in an apartment tacking up a bunch of stuff on the walls? Not a good idea. I'd like to get my deposit back if at all possible.
Even if a landlord isn't the issue sometimes you just don't want to clutter up the walls. The cool thing about this is if I want it out of the way - it's super easy to move.

I didn't just want some ho-hum bulletin board. So I made this:
.
Short version: I covered a piece of wood with crinkled paperbags.

My favorite part about it is that I FINALLY figured out what to do with some of the brown paperbags I get at the grocery store. I reuse them when I can but mostly they
just sit around taking up space. SO I found some scrap wood at my dad's and took it back to the 'partment. Set up my work area and got to it.

Supplies:
.
Wood [about 3ft by 2ft]
Glue - I used Elmer's school glue
Brown Paperbags - grocery bags, I used about three.
Scissors - you won't use em much and don't really need them

Directions:
.
Cut or rip off the bottom of the bags. You'll have a rectangle. Crinkle it then start tearing strips of various widths and lengths out of this rectangle
you do NOT want any straight edges so go nuts!! Start pasting this random bits all over your board. It's not supposed to be neat. Make sure you overlap edges
so that none of the wood shows through. I covered both sides of my board for a more completed look - if you choose to do this, mind the corners they are a bit tricky!

When all is said and done it looks like weathered leather. Okay unless you squint it looks like paperbag decoupage but use your imaginations, people!
Coolest thing is if you end up tearing it after removing something you've taped on tacked on fixing it is so easy! Just paste another bit of paperbag on top.

I don't have much on mine yet but I'll post pictures soon and if you end up making one - post pictures too!

Still no pictures, as all I've done with it is add a rope for some decorative element and tacked up one of my smaller collages.
Just thought I'd mention my inspiration wall inspired me to use the same technique on a shoebox so I'll have a matching storage container [!]
.
I'm actually running out of old paperbags. This amuses me. ^^

i used paper bags as backgrounds to framed pictures. it kinda looks like old parchment paper. i would burn the edges too to make them look extra ancient.

LOVE that idea.

I used to make "treasure maps" that way.
Cut the paperbag into a flat sheet, draw up a map then crinkle it up. Smooth it out again.
Singe the edges with a lit incense stick - lighter and match flames get out of control quickly.
Keep a spray bottle or bowl of water handy just in case things get out of hand.

If you like things really authentic take it outside and grind it into the dirt a bit.

You can also take those bags and lightly spray them with some starch - like for ironing (oh my who does that anymore but me..hahaha) anyway, give them a good stray and put them under your mattress. As you sleep on the it make crinkles and folds then you can use them for all sorts of things. Works real good when you cut the bags open before you place them under the mattress. We use them for finger painting at church for the kids. They they can take them home and their parents can frame them. Gives them a look like the bronze shoes that used to be so cute. heart

I'm in the process of covering up our hallway wall with my collages I make from magazines. I suppose it's somewhat of an inspiration wall. The nature of the collages are mostly bizzare, disturbing and satirical at times. It still echoes the nature of my art work. smile

The goodness of scotch tape, huh?

I love collages and so I must scold you. Scotch tape bad, very bad. Yeah okay awesome and convenient
but you should frame your stuffs. I've lost so much of my work over the years. It gets crinkled. It gets torn.
.
This is really a "take yer own advice" post.

Sounds like you've got an amazing Inspiration HALL - that's awesome!

This sounds like an awesome idea. I think I'll make an inspiration billboard...if I can ever find the time to do so.

THUMBTAKS!!! That's what I use, most types of walling don't have noticable marks left by tumbtaks, so use them up!

Ah but to you I say - plaster covered concrete walls. It takes Mjollnir to drive nails through these bloody walls. Or if the hammer of Thor is not readily available one might consider using a drill to make itty bitty holes and hammering the nails into said holes.

A good friend of mine suggested doing something similar to this, but it can be done either pictorally or by making a written list.

Basically, you make two different collages/lists. One of stuff you absolutely love, and another of stuff you hate with a passion.

The idea of doing both is to help you understand why you love certain things and why you hate certain things. It's a really good excercise for self-discovery, I think.
