Apollo is Win
To. Hot.
AAARGH. Why was it always so hot? Why couldn't the sun just go away, just slide it's stupid hot bright self up behind one of those clouds that seemed to be nonexistent today?! It was to hot to move, to hot to drink, to hot to EAT. Yet here he was, Apollo the amazing Violet Lion (or so he liked to think of himself), the Lady-Killer, the Wise-Guy, the Best of the BEST!, dragging a stupid impala back to his stupid tree and his stupid wants-to-be-a-den-but-really-isn't-a-den, just so he could stare at it and think how it was to HOT to eat at all. Eating in this heat would just give him indigestion.
Yet, when Apollo had awoken this morning, the clouds had covered the enter expanse of the sky, and he swore he could smell rain, and it had been so nice and cool that he wanted to hunt. And now as he dragged home of trophy, the gods laughed at him, and sent him all the heat they could. It dug into his purple fur, burning him up. The lion dropped his catch and shook his mane, wishing to cool himself, but only kinking his neck.
With a grunt, the now kink-necked lion continued on. Just a little farther; he could see his wants-to-be-a-home in the distance. He had promised his sister (he was still shocked he had found out he had a sister, let alone a twin)he would stay here. She had gone away on some 'finding herself' mission or something. So for now, he lived under this tree with it's tiny little den near by, waiting for Artemis's intended return. Of course, it hadn't come yet, so he was feeling sorta lonely.
He dropped the impala in the shade of that stupid tree, and then stretched. Sometimes Artemis said he must be half leopard or something since he always loved to scale his (their) tree and lay on the large gnarled branch that stuck out at just the right angle that it was always shaded, except for in the late evening right before the sun set. The same gnarled tree branch that was no being inhabited by something, no someone else!
"HEY!" Apollo yelled, rather irritated that his branched was occupied, when all he wanted to do was rest after dragging home a meal that looked completely unappetizing now in the heat. It wasn't fair! "HEY!" he yelled again, glowered, "You there! You are in my spot! Hey! Can you hear me! HEY YOU!"

Embrace the heat.
That was the motto she lived by.
Well, she lived by quite a few mottos, but that was one of her most recent favorites. It was so soothing. The sun on her back, the blue sky...It smelled so fresh; so summer-y. Then again, most days smelled like that to Oboé. It was the perfect kind of day for naps. Lazing in the sun was what she did best.
A loud sort of sound filled her ears, but she ignored it. She was too busy daydreaming to care much about what was happening beneath her resting place on that fat tree branch. A soft sigh escaped her lips and she smiled, swishing her tail.
'What should I do today?' Oboé thought to herself in a slur. 'Dipping into a nice watering hole sounds pleasant...' She smeared a paw over her face to cease an itch and then shuffled it away beneath her chin again. 'Hunting is always a fun pass-time. But there's also...' Memories of moonlit nights with story-telling and dancing filled her head and her quirky smile was replaced with a frown. She sighed again. Then she blinked her eyes open. The loud sound beneath her was so persistent. Why didn't it go away? What was it, an angry Ratel?
She glanced down below. Her eyes met that of a vivid purple lion's and her lip twitched. "Oh..." she drawled. Suddenly, the loud yelling made sense. Someone had been gawking at her beauty. That, or he was just angry and was taking the chance to vent at a complete stranger. Oh, and he'd brought a gift. What a tasty-looking creature he had there...
"You're not a Ratel." Oboé stated childishly with a smirk.

R-ratel!? DID SHE JUST CALL ME A RATEL!?
Apollo's face was mimicking that of a fish out of water, mouth opening and shutting, eyes wide and almost bugging in their complete shock. How dare s-some stupid leopard that was in his spot call him a ratel! He glowered at her, his tail lashing violently. If anyone who knew him would have seen him, they would have found it comical, since Apollo was truthfully a big lump of fluff generally, and looked far out of character as an irritated grump; such as he was right now.
Apollo usually had a way of being friendly with everyone, especially with the ladies.
Usually when he saw a lovely lady, Apollo was in a rather good mood, with a flirt on his lips and a twinkle in his eye. Usually he had spent the whole day relaxing, or had dipped into a pool somewhere for a quick swim. And usually he was not called 'ratel' by said ladies when he met them.
Since he was neither in a good mood, or relaxed, and had indeed been called a ratel, Apollo was far from nice, and he snorted and sat down roughly on his rump, upsetting loose dirt that dusted around him, giving his pelt a dust coat around his hindlegs. "I am no ratel, ma'am, and you," his eyes squinted into a more proper glare, "are in my spot." He hopped that would get her to at least say sorry, but from her smirk, he wasn't so sure. She looked nice enough, and she was covered in shinies of which he had never seen before (Apollo really didn't get out much, usually he waited for the ladies to come to him, since he got lost severely easily), and she had lovely eyes.
BUT WAIT! He scolded his mind, catching it before it could wander off on it's usual course, SHE CALLED ME A RATEL.
Yeah.
But she was definitely pretty.
"You hungry?"

One of Oboé's resting legs slumped off of the branch and her mouth hinted at a tiny frown. So it was his spot? Interesting...But that wasn't really important to Oboé.
The male seemed to be going through QUITE a mental struggle in a matter of moments. It was sort of funny to watch. The tiny frown was replaced with a smirk and Oboé fixed her position in the tree, straightening herself up more. She flicked her tail back and forth in mesmerizing sways and watched the lion. Ah, he seemed to have come to some kind of conclusion. Was she hungry?
Eyes lolling up to the sky, Oboé opened her mouth slightly, debating his question in her mind. Was she hungry? Was she hungry? She was a bit hungry, but not that hungry. Even so, she was NEVER one to turn down a meal at any time. Food was food. And it just happened that the male lion's (he was a lion, right?) food looked especially good...Would it be wrong to say she was hungry when she wasn't VERY hungry? Flicking her eyes around in though, she really did seem spaced-out. Anyone who didn't know her might say she looked like a leopardess with a few screws loose.
"I'm a bit hungry." Oboé state lazily, leaning forward in the branch to peer more closely at the lion. Her gold eyes surveyed his form and his meal. He seemed like a decent fellow. Not one of those bad types. Oboé thought herself a good judge of character when it came to things like that. "Are you inviting me to a meal, then, non-Ratel?" Oboé asked with a humored smirk.

He watched the pinkish leopardess's smile become a small frown (almost), and then watched her think in silence. She looked almost funny, with her mouth opened a little as she startsped off into some far off place. So, while she thought, he took the time to look her over, and could you blame him? She was a very pretty lady, with bright golden eyes, and her fur was the most interesting color he had ever seen. And he really did like those shiny things she had draped all over. The way she talked to him definitely was annoying, but he found it kinda...cute? as well. But what he found most interesting was her smiles. It was silly really, as he was used to seeing the ladies smile around him (it was one of his skills, making others smile), but she didn't really smile. It was more of a lazy smirk, a small curious grin that seemed to go 'I suppose you are interesting, I suppose.' but still said more. It was something unique and new. Apollo was fascinated. He watched her lean off the branch a bit, eying him, and for a moment didn't understand what she was saying.
He got that she was hungry.
And then he got the little mention of Ratel-iness.
"I am not a Ratel, or a non-Ratel! I am a lion!" he protested, and then sulked silently for a moment, looking away for the leopardess and her golden eyes and soft pinkish pelt. And after a moment, he let his anger go with a slow breath and turned his eyes back to her.
"If you are hungry, come down here," Apollo stated grumpily after giving the leopardess a rather irritable glare, "I am not crawling up there to feed you, you spot stealer."
The purple lion let his lips curl into a smirk as he watched the lady in his tree, because, even if it was immature, he had gotten her back for calling him Ratel.
"And also? Call me Apollo, not non-Ratel," Apollo winced at the name, and then frowned, realizing he didn't know her name either (and if he wanted to share food with her, let alone talk to her -or anything else- he would need to know her name!). "And umm...what can I call you?"

A strange, unearthly giggle burst forth from Oboé at the male's complaints at being called anything having to do with "ratel". She stifled it, though. He amused her. But what was so bad about being called a ratel or non-ratel? Ratels were tough little creatures, so it was actually like paying him a compliment. He was so funny with his annoyed expression and deep...blue...eyes...Hmm...
Oboé stole a glance to the sky in an attempt to clear her mind and then looked back down at the lion.
"You want me to come down?" she asked, her interested smile fading into a look of displeasure. "Why? So you can come up here and steal this lovely," She pressed herself into the branch, making it look like an extremely worthy place of rest. "warm, comfy branch?" she asked lightly, raising a sleek brow. As she pressed herself into the branch, she rolled slowly to the right, and eventually slid off the branch, landing stiffly on her feet. It wasn't the graceful landing anyone would expect. It wasn't clear whether coming down from the branch was intentional or not.
"Apollo~!" Oboé repeated his name with a smile. "Such a good name..." She sighed dreamily. "...for a ratel!" she finished. She clawed the dirt a bit beneath her and then moved closer to Apollo's kill, not seeming to hear the his question. But then she replied. "I'm called Oboé." she said languidly. "I named myself." she added. Her golden adornments made quiet tinkling sounds as she pawed at the fallen animal, taking in its scent.
Maybe she was very hungry after all?

Apollo grinned a little, silently saying 'Perhaps,' when she said he would only want her down so he could steal /his/ spot back, and then watched her press happy against the branch. And then...fall?
It was a very graceful drop, and the lion winced, looking away, because he could feel sympathy pains rushing up his paws, her legs must have jolted when she landed like that. Really, that didn't look like it was an purposeful drop. But the lion kept any comments to himself, because now she was trotting up to him. Her and her pretty eyes and her nice voice and shinies.
He was sure that under his think violet pelt, he was blushing, when she said his name, and a little smile curled its way onto his face; then quickly disappeared as she added her little sly comment of the Ratel variety. Now Apollo was pouting, and opened his mouth to redeem himself, and prove he was not a Ratel (damn it! He wasn't!), but she was already closer now, and replying to his question.
Oboe?
He tried the name carefully, "Oboe," Apollo mumbled, and found it rather pleasant, though the names of most of the ladies he had met had had lovely names. But never had he heard that one of them had named themselves. "It is a lovely name, you are very creative," the large fluff of a lion squeaked out, because now she was so close he could see clearly all the markings on her, and hear the gentle ring of her goldwear as she pawed his catch.
"S-shall we eat?"
When had he started stuttering? She was so different from all the others. But as he thought about it, something clenched at his heart. He wasn't sure what this feeling was, but it scared him, so he quickly pushed the feelings away. Oboe was nothing more then the others, he told himself, and then his facade relaxed, and he let a smooth suave smile cross his face.
"So, do you usually come around this way?"

"Thank you, good sir." Oboé said gallantly in reply to his compliment on her name, flipping from the persona of an intrigued child to an elegant woman. She flashed a grin before returning her attention to the fallen animal.
Goodness, Apollo liked to ask questions. The poor dear was stuttering. Possibly at her beauty. Others stuttered at her beauty more than she'd ever care to say (because Oboé wasn't one to brag, really). She'd never really gotten used to it. In all honesty, she thought herself rather plain. That's why she adorned herself in beautiful, golden objects. Even though everyone in the circus-like troupe she used to be in wore some sort of "costume" during their performances, Oboé wore hers even when she was alone.
Agreeing with his idea on eating almost instantly, Oboé promptly took a large chunk out of the dead animal's shoulder with her teeth. Instead of eating it right then and there, however, she lied down on the spot and rolled onto her back. Then, she began to eat the meat, much like an otter.
"Well~," Oboé began in a drawl at his question. "I don't usually go any place." she finished. It was simple enough, she thought. Sometimes she'd go here, other times she'd go there...But never the same place twice. That was the life she lived; always on the move. It was how she grew up. It was in her blood and she didn't think anything could change that.
"I suppose since this is your tree," Oboé put emphasis on "your" and made it sound especially sarcastic. "you come here all the time?"

He watched her with slight confusion as she ate. What normal creature at like that? But he made no comment, because he was now busy chewing and swallowing his own part of the impala. It was interesting to note that a few minutes ago Apollo had been rather unhappy and dissatisfied with his meal, but now he ate happy. Seemingly enjoying the company of another. As was it with Apollo, he loved company; seeing as he spent his whole life spoiled and paid attention to. So now he was smiling and listening, ears perked forward.
She was a rogue, it seemed then, much like himself. Though Apollo made it his job not to wander to much, seeing as (as much as he hated to admit it) he was easily confused and confounded by directions and got lost easier then a two day old cub in a dust storm during the darkest part of the night.
He wondered if she had ever had a home, but didn't ask. Mainly because now the large fluff of a lion was giving Oboe a half hearted glare. "Yes, my tree, and yes. I live here, I suppose." he licked his paw as his stomach grumbled happily, now full of food. "And it is a rather comfortable tree, as well, isn't it?" He gave the pinkish leopardess a little glare, returning to the point that had caused this meeting. Her stealing his tree.
"Besides, I am not much of a traveler," let her come up with her own reasons. He wasn't going to explain why he didn't move was because he got lost easily. How embarrassing would that be!?

Oboé quirked an eyebrow and frowned, finishing off a last bite of meat. She licked her lips slowly, seemingly deep in thought. He didn't travel much? That was too bad...Oboé had been thinking how interesting it would be if he decided to wander around with her. Maybe he'd be up for learning some rhythmic dance moves? Or possibly take up some singing? He had a pleasant voice, she admitted to herself. And he was still quite young (he looked and sounded so, anyway) which left much room for learning. But he didn't travel...
It was strange, she thought, for a lion who wasn't part of a pride to not wander around.
"It is a comfortable tree..." Oboé murmured, not bothering with her other thoughts anymore for the time being. "I'll have to remember where it is so I can come back here to sleep again sometime." With that, she flipped over onto her feet and stood, shaking the dust from her pink fur. She sighed loudly which turned into a groan which turn into a yawn. She glanced lazily at Apollo and slowly began to examine him. Up, then down, then up, then down. "You have a very lovely coat." she stated after a moment. "I thought your kind usually had more naturally-colored..." Her eyes trailed off as she searched for the right word, not wanting to use the same word twice. "...Fur." she finished.

The way her eyes raced over him made Apollo feel weird. She looked like she was sizing him up, which was usually something he enjoyed (seeing as he was the most amazing lion EVER), but her eyes were so...intense. He wondered how old she was, she was nothing like the others he had met, she was far from young, but...not old. And her pelt was so color--
"Huh?" the violet lion blinked himself from his thoughts, and then glowered, "How 'bout you find your own spot instead of stealing mine, eh?" The words were blunt, but they lacked a harshness, seeing as there was a quirk of a smile on the young males face, a light joking-ness in his eyes. He watched her lazily as she rose; noting the way her body was still thin and lithe (was she young or old!? He couldn't tell). She was looking him over again and Apollo glanced away, because her eyes were just so different. He didn't like the way she looked at him. She was looking at him differently then others.
"Thanks."
Apollo let his eyes trail back over and up, and smiled again, though it faltered and then failed all together. His kind? "What do you mean," he grumbled, standing up, not bothering to shake the dust from his own fur, "my kind?" His lips pursed in an irritated pout, and his tail lashed a couple times in sudden annoyance. "And any way! You have to right to talk, Ms. Prissy Pink Fur!" he added, snapping his jaw shut afterwards. Apollo was definitely one of those lions who was easily upset.
My kind?, he thought darkly, now looking away from the leopardess. He didn't have much of kind, seeing as the few lions and lionesses he had met were few and far apart. Mother, Artemis, and a few lovely lionesses. He had no kind, no family, no pride. He couldn't even leave his tree because he was so afraid of being lost and alone, even more then he was. So that little comment got him all riled up. The anger seemed pulse inside of him. Some self-loathing at his fear, some hatred at his mother for telling him to leave, at his sister for disappearing.
It isn't fair. She has a kind, and I don't.

Apollo's eyes had a certain quality to them that Oboé found interesting. They matched well with his beautiful coat, but it wasn't just that. They were almost sparkling with emotions. It was as if she could clearly read each thought that passed through his mind just from watching his eyes. She could see that it was making him uncomfortable to have her looking at him so much, but that made her even more interested. She had only really known leopards (and a serval) for most of her life...Maybe getting to know a lion wouldn't hurt? She'd never interacted with one so much before. She was having a lot of fun.
But it suddenly looked like Apollo wasn't.
When Apollo made a rather snide comment on her own fur (taking the time to add some flourish to it by adding 'Ms.'), Oboé pouted her own lip, looking slightly affronted. But it wasn't the name he made up for her that bothered her. It was the fact that he got so easily offended. He was quick to annoyance and easily offended by things, it seemed.
Oboé felt a smirk tug at her lips.
She'd change that. She'd help him to see the humor in life. Maybe not right then, but eventually. She wasn't about to let someone so entertaining slip through her claws. Even if she couldn't stay there by "his" tree forever, she'd be back.
"Yes, your kind." Oboé said, taking a pause to bend down and stretch. She stood up again and tested the ground with her paws. She was getting antsy to move again. "Ratels," she said. "They're usually not as bright, aren't they?" she asked, but since she wasn't looking at him when she asked the question it looked like she was asking some invisible person next to her. She directed her attention back to Apollo. "Or perhaps I'm mistaken?"
Oboé flashed a charming grin and waited for his response.

Apollo glared, hot and angry now. She came flaunting into his land (or so he thought of this small tree and it's rock) and got him all confused and uncomfortable. She made herself right at home, called him a ratel, poked and prodded his ego, and now she was talking about his kind. KIND? Apollo had never had one.
And then she did it again.
That.
That 'ratel' joke! It was just a joke, but he was riled up, he was angry, irritated, CONFUSED. And she was just making more fun. Couldn't she see how angry he was? Was that her plan, to anger him into saying what he was about to say?
"I am bright enough to know when I have been insulted," Apollo said coldly, not daring to look at her, because she could, he hated to admit it, ease him with her eyes. She had that look. She was a thing he couldn't control. It was fun anymore. He hated her insults, her jokes, how random she could be. "And I want you to leave."
There was raise in tone, no growl, no violence. But there was a sharpness to his words that outranked his young age (he had just barely hit adulthood), and he looked at her, but not at her, instead, beyond her. "I am tired of your voice, and you're irritating me more then anything. Just LEAVE." The last word acted as a verbal shove into the leopardess face, and the violet lion turned, stalked to his tree and scaled his way, clumsy and angry, onto a thinner, more uncomfortable branch, because he didn't want to lay were she had. He didn't look at Oboe, his eyes dropped and glaring straight ahead into the distance.
Hopefully she would leave.

At that last shove, a strange, startled giggle burst forth from her chest. She quickly choked it back, but couldn't remove the smile from her face.
That last act by him alone was like a personal invitation to come back, to Oboé.
Well, that was alright that he wanted her to leave. It was time for her to go anyway, she thought to herself. Judging by how irritated he appeared, turning his back to stalk off and pout, she didn't think he'd be up for a discussion of tagging along with her. At least not then.
But she'd be back.
With a smile and a flick of her tail, Oboé gave Apollo an elegant stretch of a bow and turned away. "This is your dwelling place," Oboé began calmly, staring over her shoulder up at his form in the tree. "so I will respect your decision and leave." She turned her head away. "But don't worry," A glint entered her golden eyes and still, she held her smile, looking into the open wilderness. "While I'm gone, I'll let you use my tree branch."
Without waiting for a retort, Oboé took off into the savanna, he swift legs carrying her farther and farther away, until she wasn't visible anymore.

had to make one last comment XDD
Apollo listened, he didn't look like he was, but he listened. His ears twitched and his mane ruffled, his fur stood slightly on end, and his tail flicked sharply as she spoke.
Fine. Leave. I don't need you. I don't need anyone!
He listened to her go, and nearly yelled at her retreating back, his head snapping to look at her, when she commented on HER(?!) branch. It was his damn it. But she was gone already.
"GOOD!" he yelled, and then leaned a little to far to the left, and fell from the branch. The ground met his paws and they jolted, and the young lion winced. But mainly it wasn't from pain, but because it reminded him of how Oboe had fallen from the branch mere minutes before.
And it hurt.
Why?
"Stupid old leopard and your stupid old...jokes." he grumbled, curling up beside the tree now, to unhappy to crawl into it, and promptly slept.
