Bret made her way swiftly down the hallway, her gym bag and purse clutched to her side. She still wore her sunglasses, despite the fact that it made things more difficult to see. She reasoned, however, that it would be helpful in avoiding eye contact. She hated being new in a place like this. She was horrible at remembering faces and names, especially at first, and she really did just want to find what sort of practice studios they had.

She really was delighted that she had been selected. Her audition had gone well and this was the first step toward greater things. Her photo shoot had been... interesting to say the least. She had had her photo taken before, of course. But people moved slower in small towns, and she had never been anywhere so upscale.

Finally, she found the door to the studio. She gratefully stepped into the dark room and turned on the lights. She grinned with glee as she finally removed her shades. The room was perfect. Wood flooring, a mirrored wall, and white paint on all the others. A piano and a CD player lay nestled in one end.

Within minutes, she was ready to go, having changed into black knee-length leggings, purple shorts and a white tanktop. She slipped the soundtrack to Hello Dolly! into the CD player and began her stretches.

Riley couldn't help but feel a surge of jealousy as the person walking down the hall clicked on the lights in the dance studio she normally practiced in. Of course she knew she was a nobody and that there had to be other people here, but she hadn't enountered them yet, and had come to think of the small studio as very much 'hers'.

At the same time, she smiled to herself. Another dancer? Maybe this one could show her things she may not have learned over in Egypt!

She danced happily up to the door and pushed it open and looked in at the girl stretching. Of all the days not to bring her own workout outfit. She tugged at her skirts, knowing if she really wanted, she could dance in them anyway.

Bret's head whipped around toward the door, startled. Who would walk in on a practice?! She quickly kicked herself mentally, however. She was going to have to meet people here sooner or later. Might as well make it sooner. Besides, this room might have been reserved, and she'd prefer to hear it now than before she really started working.

She scrambled to her feet and pushed her hair behind her ears as she looked at the person in the doorway. It was a woman, near her own age, she was pretty sure.
"Hi!" she said brightly, overcompensating for her nerves.
"Did you have this room reserved? I'm so sorry, I didn't see any sign on the door or anything, so I just assumed..."

Realizing she was rattling on and on, she stopped and just smiled nervously, waiting for the woman to reply.

She smiled back at the girl who was much fairer than herself.

"Oh, no, I didn't have it reserved...Well, I mean, I guess I've never had to actually reserve it...I've been the only dancer since coming here." She shrugged. Riley indicated her outfit with her dark hand. "I'm not dressed for practice today, anyway."

She tilted her head. "Why aren't you wearing a leotard?" she asked curiously.

Bret relaxed as the girl spoke. She was glad she hadn't stepped on anyone's toes. At least, not officially. The girl's question threw her a bit, though.

"Oh, I... My leotards are probably all in the laundry. This was just what I managed to grab this morning."

She actually preferred what she was currently wearing when she was rehearsing casually. It allowed for a full range of motion just as easily as a leotard, and she found it more comfortable.

"I'm Bret Andrews, by the way. I was just recently signed with Walk of Fame."

"I'm Riley Daima," she said, extending her hand. "It's nice to meet you. I've been with the agency for a couple months now." Riley laughed. "And I haven't met that many people in all that time. Hm..."

She shook her head. "So you're a dancer then?"

Bret moved toward the girl and shook her hand, mentally repeating the girl's name over and over so she wouldn't forget it. She chuckled lightly at her question.

"Among other things, yeah. I do a lot of stage acting. Mostly musical theatre, so I've done a lot of Jazz and tap. I love to choreograph as well."

She grinned, not wanting to focus the conversation on herself.
"So, you're a dancer too?"

Musicals? Riley wondered if Bret sang then, as well.

"A dancer of sorts, yeah," she said, nodding. "I've learned tap, jazz and ballet, but lately my focus has been a sort of jazz ballet. It's very upbeat, with still a lot of the graceful flow of ballet..." The dark haired girl trailed off. She had never really known how to explain what she did, but maybe a dancer would understand better than someone who didn't know the difference between the three styles she had listed.

She perked up as the other girl said she choreographed. "You choreograph, really? That's really neat! Maybe you could help me sometime." Riley knew how to dance, but putting things together had never come as naturally to her as the actual dance, and so had left it to her instructers. Now, without her instructors...she felt a little lost.

Bret nodded as Riley spoke. She was familiar with jazz ballet, though hadn't really studied it much. Perhaps Riley could show her a thing or two. She could always use new moves for her routines.

"Yeah, mostly small stuff now. I've done a few high school shows and some community theatre. It's a lot of fun! I'd love to help you. Maybe... you could show me some of your jazz ballet moves?"

She asked tentatively. She was always hesitant when asking for help.

Riley nodded emphatically. "Of course, I could. Perhaps one day we can get together and practice? It's been awhile since I've been able to practice with someone."

She blushed a little. "I'm sorry, I've interuppted your practice! I can leave you alone or go away, if you'd like to continue."

Bret grinned, finally beginning to relax. She had a great smile, the product of having an uncle for an orthodontist.

"No, I don't mind at all! Please stay. I can practice later," she said quickly. She wanted to get to know this Riley. It would be really great to have a friend in the agency, especially a dancer.

She gestured toward the wood floor since there was an absence of chairs and sat, tucking her legs under her.

"So, how long have you been dancing?"

Riley couldn't help but run her tongue over her teeth as she was flashed a white gleem from Bret's mouth. Hm...must look into that sort of work. Her teeth weren't that bad. Maybe a little crooked. She wondered if it was expensive...

Riley quickly knelt down and tucked her feet off to the side, under her skirt (she had just recalled she was wearing her brace on her foot and was still just a little too proud to let it be seen so prominatly) and put her hand behind her, putting most of her weight on it.

"Oh...since I was about 6." She paused. "Ah, I'm 19 now, so...13 years, but...well I took a break from serious dancing for a few years, so 10."

She couldn't help but stare at the girls hair. Sure she had seen people on TV and even in the hospital with pretty red hair, but she was sure that had been dyed. Even if Bret's was dyed, with her pale skin, it looked natural and lovely.

"How are you liking this town? I haven't myself had time to explore, but I hear there are many parties and such to be found."

Bret pulled her legs up to her as she leaned against the wall behind her, and rested her arms on her legs.

"13 years, huh? That's impressive!"

She tried to think back to when it was she had started dancing seriously. It had probably been about.... nine or ten years. She had trouble remembering. She jolted back to attention just in time to hear Riley's question.

"I really like it, I guess! I mean, what I've seen of it. I haven't really been out of my apartment much. I've lived in a small town my whole life, so moving to a city has been a big switch."

She tucked a strand of hair behind her ear.
"What about you?"

"Oh, I guess one big city is like another," she said. "I grew up in Cairo, so there was always alot going on there too, just like here." She laughed. "Although, I didn't do to much either, just went to dance school. The occasional shopping spree with my parents. I dunno, guess I'm just a boring person."

She leaned forward a little.

"So you're from a small town? What's that like?"

"Cairo?! Wow, that doesn't sound boring at all! I've always wanted to travel."

She smiled and thought about the question.
"Well, small towns are fun, in their own way. You know most of the people, if not everyone. Holidays are always a blast, but it can be pretty repetitive, I guess. And it's quite a transition when you come to a city like this. Like riding in a cab! I had never done that til a few months ago. Can't say I really like it."

She chuckled and hoped she wasn't talking to fast, a bad habit of hers.
