His morning had been a convenient one, and he managed to devour two grown deer in a matter of moments. They went quickly and easily, and the blood was tasty and filing. He had been lucky in his hunts lately, and he assumed that the warm weather brought flocks of animals all around the land without fear. Many were too young to be phased by his presence so their death came easily and without complication. His stomach was rather pleased with such successes, and after sitting for an hour and devouring his win he was content to make his move to some other territory. Almost a month had gone by since he had seen any contacts or family members, but Fachtna was rather enjoying his solitude. It suited him since he hated useless social contact.
Still, it felt strange to never speak. His sisters used to make fun of him for his lack of caring but now he sort of wondered if they were right in their riddles. Should he check in with his family? He wasn't sure what his parents wanted, or what he wanted for that matter. He only followed his stomach, so the days and nights went quickly through time.

Rötschreck growled to himself. He had just stumbled upon another deer carcass. Something was hunting in their land and he would find out who. When he did, he would bring him or her to face Maeryn and the punishment of the herd. It was disrespectful to hunt in these lands and not make your presence known. Many had learned the hard way to seek permission from their herd.
To be honest, with the amount of bodies that seemed to accumulate over the last few days, he was starting to suspect it was a small group of soquili or quite a large one of smaller animals. They must have been on the brink of starvation by the looks of it.
The large stallion shook his head and continued looking for the intruder(s). Whoever they were, they weren't being careful. Every so often, he'd spot a broken twig or branch. It was a pity it wasn't muddy. That would have made it a lot easier to follow.

Something felt alive around Fachtna, and it wasn't the type of feeling that he got when a deer or small animal was in the area. Something much bigger and aggressive was around him, and Fachtna had no idea what it was. He could sense something bold and strong, but he couldn't pin point where it was. It had a stench that felt strangely familiar, but Fachtna had no idea why. It just didn't feel right.
The young stallion stopped his walking once he had reached the center point of many trees, and he decided to keep his surroundings open to observe whatever could be around him. Even though his parents had trained him to be much more subtle in his defense, that wasn't Fachtna's style at all. He like others to see his dominant stance, since he had no fear of pain or death. Confrontation was one of his favorite feelings, so he just stood his guard as boldly as he could. His parents had taught him well, but he was grown now and would follow his own instincts.
The area was quiet for many moments, until finally his ears twitched to a sound of footsteps. Whatever was around him would find him, and Fachtna was well prepared for that fact. Besides, maybe he wanted to find what was around him more, since now he was very curious. The situation felt alive and real, and Fachtna had been craving such a moment for weeks.

Rötschreck continued on the trail until he caught the scent of the creature he had been tracking. He knew then that he was nearly upon it. Within a few more minutes, a shape in the distance became to form and as he neared, he older stallion couldn't help but grin. He took the time as he walked near to study the form to make sure that he had guessed accurately. It was easy for him to tell just which family that stallion came from. Hell, a surge of pride flowed through the elder stallion. None of his own little ones had come out so similar. Oh, he would have loved to see Toku's face when this one popped out of his basket.
"You have one hell of an appetite," he joked, taking a stance nearby the stallion. He stood equally proud as he looked into the eyes of his grandson. Would this grandson put the obvious similarities together to? Rot could only hope this stallion took after his mother when it came to brains. Hell, he hoped he took after his mother when it came to anything.
"Malice and Toku's boy, eh?" he said in more of a statement than a question. Though he hadn't meant to, his grin just grew all the bigger as he took the other stallion in. Damn, was he proud. "Make sure you save some food for your grandmother. She has a vicious temper when she's hungry. Then again, she always has a vicious temper." He was curious why the stallion was in the area. Had they really grown that fast? Where were the other two? He hadn't been able to meet any of them yet. Time had gone by too quickly and he was sure Malice and Toku had been busy raising a family and he and Maeryn owed a responsibility to the herd and had been unable to leave.

Fachtna, who rarely showed any emotion, was rather overwhelmed when the other Kalona entered in front of him. The darker Kalona was without a doubt his famed grandfather. Rot was the Kalona that his mother had spoken so much about, and he was definitely a character that Fachtna only dreamed to live up to. Even standing in his presence was enthralling, and the younger Kalona felt himself grin in a very out of character way. "I've always been told I carry mother's appetite, she and I usually out-eat everyone else." It was perfect that they were hunting partners, since they always got the job down.
"Her vicious temper has lead me to what I am, and both of my sisters definitely have that temper mixed in with their own feelings." he then admitted, while lowering his head a bit and nodding. "I've always wanted to meet you, grandfather. I have grown up knowing such much about our family ties and ideals, and it really is an honor to finally find you." It felt good to express how he was feeling, and he was sure his grandfather wouldn't judge against his much lighter emotion for the moment. His stiff body from before was much more relaxed now, and he felt no reason to hold such a stiff guard.
"My mother has always said that I take after you the most. And I must say, I am honored for that privilege as well." Although he and his mother would discuss this fact privately, Fachtna knew that he stood out differently in comparison to his sister's resemblance to their father. "Malice named me after you, Fachtna, since she found it as most benefiting since your color has carried on into our generation." And that was seriously an awesome fact. Looking towards Rot was almost looking into a mirror of himself, though Rot certainly had more honor and respect on his shoulders. Fachtna would be lucky to get an ounce of what Rot had achieved in his lifetime.

"You look strong, Fachtna" Rot complimented, giving the name an official trying out. It was a good name and the compliment was true. Not only was his grandson bigger, perhaps even bigger than he, but his muscles was well toned. Rot could tell that this stallion didn't waste about the day. No, his grandson worked his body and had potential to be a great fighter. He had already proven to be an excellent hunter. He was very pleased.
"I've wanted to meet you too, but I didn't want to step over any boundaries that your parents might have set." It wasn't an outright apology but it was as close to one as he could get. He really had wanted to see them as foals but the last thing they needed was to see their father and grandparents fighting. That kind of thing left an impression on a young mind. Naturally they are going to want to side with their parents.
"I have to admit, I am honored to have a grandson named after me and to look similarly to me. I'm not long left in this world and it reassures me to know that I will live on in my family." He was getting quite old. He could feel it more in his bones and joints with every passing day and it did not make him sad. If the time came for him to die, he would greet it with pride. He had a full life and a full family and there wasn't a single one, save for that damned Toku, that he wasn't proud of.

Fachtna had felt pride before, but the quick words from his grandfather gave him an overwhelmed feeling of confidence that was not found before. Sure, his mother and father had praised him, but now something bigger and greater was acknowledging him. Here stood the beginning of it all, and Fachtna would do his best to uphold his grandfather's compliment. Rather then saying thank you, he responded in a usual Fachtna-way. He was a soldier, and his emotions were rather useless compared to his duties. But still, pride and confidence was always allowed when necessary. "I will continue to uphold what strength you see in me, and work harder to gain even more." Yes.. that was all he could do really.
There was great honor in discovering how similar Fachtna was to his grandfather. The young stallion felt his eyes widen a bit at the continuous praises, and in an instant the young Kalona lowered his legs so that he was bowing rather genuinely to the older stallion. It was a moment of silence that was necessary, and it was a moment that Fachtna was giving back to Rot, for everything. Their family, their legacy, their bloodline. "I couldn't have been this way if it weren't for you, and you are the one who I must acknowledge in true greatness." To know that Fachtna had a purpose in being born, and to know that Rot had the confidence to believe in his abilities was enough to make the younger stallion keel over.
He had never felt this way before, and it was rather nice. It was a feeling that was close to affection, though molded in its own way so Fachtna could understand it. Fachtna then slowly stood up, since he was pleased to face his grandfather again face to face. "Just because you face a coming of age, doesn't mean your life is near-ending. Bodies become tired because they must, but you are still full of strength in your mind." Plus, Fachtna would happily watch over his grandfather, even if Rot declared it unnecessary. "You still have time to enjoy, and your family will make that apparent for you."
