Turns out, all I needed to do was plug it directly into the wall outlet... instead of a surge protector. sweatdrop
I'm so glad it wasn't one of those send-harddrive-in-wait-10-years type of thing.
I'm so happy my PS3 is fixed...slash not broken. xD
I hooked it up online via Wifi as well.
I'm already to start gaming on my PS3 again! <3

How old was the surge protector that you were using? If it's older than three years, buy a new one immediately. It's not good to just run your PS3 into the wall.

Why isn't it? This summer, my campus lost power twice. Each time, some computers from a lab had a number with dead power supplies. It might have been because it was their time to go, but having a surge protector will lessen the likelihood of an electric surges killing your PS3 twisted But seriously, you should get a new surge protector to plug your PS3 into.

Really? I've had my Wii plugged in since a couple weeks after launch and it's still running fine.

Really? I've had my Wii plugged in since a couple weeks after launch and it's still running fine.
I just plug mine in my wall to play it then unplug it again. I don't keep it plugged in when I'm not playing it. I'm very mobile with my consoles. But I've always had my consoles plugged into the wall.

My PS3 fix was only a temp fix. Within a few turn-ons, it went back to having the humming noise and the horizontal bars.
I read online on the PS3 forums that the third power prong ******** with the current or something, something called grounding/looping or whatever.
All I had to do was break the third prong and plug it in. Since I was skeptical, I broke the third prong off one of my surge protectors. I plugged the PS3 into that and then the surge protector into the wall and it worked! ; D
So, like everyone told me to, I am now using a surge protector on a fixed PS3. ; D

So, like everyone told me to, I am now using a surge protector on a fixed PS3. ; D Now it's sounding like you need to have Sony work on your PS3, though...You see, that "third prong" is a ground, which is what allows your surge protector to protect from unexpected surges of power (as all the current would be sent to something with very high resistance rather than discharge in your electrical devices). If your PS3 has a problem when the ground prong is being used, it SHOULDN'T be happening, and you should be entitled to a system repair.
