Welcome to the dog guild!

This sticky is to lay down some guidelines to posting in this forum. Please follow them. Three floutings of them will result in removal from the guild. Nonmembers flouting the guild may make me change the status of the guild from 'public' to 'private,' and I don't really want to do that at this point since I like to think that anyone should be allowed to come here--as long as they follow the rules.

The discussions in this guild will be based along ED rules. That means if you debate someone over a topic, you make logical arguments and be able to cite proof.

Please also use decent spelling and grammar. This will make most people in here MUCH more likely to take you seriously.

Breed bashing is not allowed under any circumstances. I don't mind if you explain why you are not fond of a certain breed, but do not make blanket statements like 'all Lhasas are vicious' or 'all Afghan hounds are stupid.' Mutts Anonymous is not a breed-specific breed, nor is it a guild solely for purebred dogs (as should be inferrable from the name). Our policy is that no breed is intrinsically better than any other.

Do not bump. This is not a guild for bump wars or anything of the like. Bumps in the guild will be deleted and excessive bumping will get you expelled from the guild.

This guild is not only for people of one opinion. If you disagree with someone on a particular, say so! The point of this guild is to foster discussion and learning.

Use real arguments- bad arguments make baby Jesus cry. Here's a list of fairly common fallacies: http://www.xenu.net/archive/baloney_detection.html

I know of some fallacies not covered there, tough, so I'll ty to find a more complete list.

I would like to add that they key to a discussion, debate or argument is the fact that you give us a topic to discuss, debate, or argue. I've noticed that a lot of the animal/pet topics in ED up for discussion are usually based around a fact that's all ready widely accepted as wrong or right, such as a topic a while ago that centered around the fact that if you can't afford to take care of an animal, then don't get one. There isn't much of a discussion in that, and it was more of a rant than a discussion. Trying to turn it into one had people jumping on my case like I was some kind of animal abuse advocate. xp

Try to list sources if your information or topic happens to be a little unusual. It'll only benefit you in the long run.

Um... other than that, I can't really think of anything else to add.
