Sorry?

Players Alex Falcone, We`rika & Sevilin
Setting Some fancy restaurant, evening

---

We`rika clutched the receiver of his phone in a death grip, unable to put it down and unwilling to let it all go. Sevilin was sitting on the couch a few feet from him, his usual gentle blue eyes were harsh as they glowered at him, his little cherry lips turned down in a strong pout. He wasn't one to be bullied into anything, but his ward pretty much had a rope around his balls and knew how to squeeze.

Grumbling, the huichol began to dial a familiar number and prayed the girl didn't have caller ID, or had moved. With every ring his nerve began to waver. Finally, it was picked up by a familiar voice and We`rika completely forgot what he was going to say or even his name.

"........ Hi, is erm We`rika..." No response. God this was already going great. "Yeah, so... I was... wondering if you--well, Sev'lin--OW! Jesus Chris' Sev!" He looked down at the remote that cracked over his head, and up at the "innocent" little Frei that had done it. He cupped the receiver and growled at the sea fairy. "I'mma tryin' okay?! Yer no' helpin'!!" He turned back around put the phone up to his lips. "Sorry, anyway..." Was she even still listening? "I.... was... wonderin' if I ya would be open ta........ you know..." Godamnit! ******** ******** ******** ********!! "I wan' ta take ya ou' ta dinner or somethin' and like say I'mma sorry and shi' and stuff............." There, Jesus!

She wanted to hang up on the first word spoken by one of the people she had little fondness for, but she did not. Alex, despite all her antics, was fair in interactions and would allow the shaman to speak his peace as long as it did not insult her. The woman remained silent as We`rika tried to speak, unable to pause the smile that lit her face as the male uttered his surprise and pain at something lobbing him in the head.

Not that she enjoyed pain inflicted on others, but the fact that it was her sweet little Sevilin that did it, she couldn't stop the amusement. Of course, said amusement was quickly replaced by doubt and disbelief at the words that followed. We`rika? Apologize? Was the world ending and she wasn't aware of it? She kept her sarcastic thoughts to herself, thinking over the proposition.

He didn't say what he wanted to apologize for. Maybe it'd end up he'd want to apologize for not kicking the dog out the window, or apologize for not throwing things at her as she left last time...it was hard to say, with We`rika involved. The hesitation, though...and that Sevilin was involved...it changed her mind. Just a little.

"When and where?" was all she said into the receiver, her voice dry.

Okay, well things were starting to look up a bit. At least she hadn't just hung up. "Uhh well--" He looked back at Sevilin, his ears falling around his head. Where do you go for dinner? He never went out to like restaurants and stuff unless he had some extra money during lunchtime. "Uhh is Durem ta far for ya? They has a nice diner there. Is pretty faaancy...!" He cooed over the phone. It really wasn't but it didn't hurt to say so. "And--And I'lla pay for ya.... Sev'lin will be there!"

He tried to think of any way to milk this. As much as he didn't want to admit it, he needed Alex to come back. Sevilin was a big moody blob since she left and he'd been terrorizing all the new baby-sitters. "Pleeeeease..." He whined high and pathetically for extra affect. Sevilin rushed over and started his pleading as well.

"Pleease pleease Alex!"

She couldn't have cared less if they ate at a fast food joint; more than anything, she wanted to know what really prompted the phone call she was still questioning she was on. Alex quirked her lips to refrain from smiling at the ridiculous coo - coming from We`rika, it was almost endearing. Almost. Her lips parted to accept, cut short by Sevilin's plea. She was going to say 'yes,' regardless, but she could see the Frei in her mind's eye, watery-eyed and ears lowered. Goodness, but she missed that boy.

"Yeah. If eight isn't too late, I'll see you then. If you're late I'm leaving." Despite her bland words, there was a lilt of amusement in her voice, and just maybe, anticipation.

"We will! Tha--" Aww she hung up. "Alrigh' Sev'lin les move move!" He clapped his hands together and run for his bedroom, almost tripping over a pile of dirty clothes he had forgotten to pick up earlier this morning. "H'oooo lessee..." The huichol grabbed a clean white shirt and a new pair jeans that didn't have holes in them and his usual workmen's boots caked with cement.

---

Hmmm, he had gotten here a little early. We`rika made sure to grab a booth and tuck Sevilin in the corner so he couldn't get into any trouble. Still, they had 10 or so minutes to wait and their waitress was starting to get antsy. "Can I ge' another water please..." He usually knocked back beers, but he was driving home with Sevilin and he would never forgive himself if anything happened.

It was good that they'd shown up early; the woman stuck firmly to her word, and had they not been there, she would not have waited.

Alex arrived a few minutes before the designated time, cool and collected. It'd do no good to show her amusement or curiosity on the situation and give herself away just yet, so the Italian doused her wild flames for a more laid back and detached approach. She'd left her hair down tonight, instead bound by a loose ponytail, her long bangs arched to frame her angular face, a pair of thin-rimmed glasses set on the bridge of her nose. The woman wore simple attire of a collared black tee with a white shirt beneath it, dark blue jeans and her good ol' boots. Somethings never changed.

She spotted the two she was meeting easily, if not soley for the fact she could pick out Sevilin's hair color anywhere in Durem. A genuine smile lit her face as she approached the two, sliding off her glasses and folding them into her breast pocket. "Hey," she greeted We`rika calmly, green eyes flicking past him to the Raevan. "Sevvie!" her far warmer reception was saved for the Frei, whom she reached over the table to as she took her seat across from them.

Sevilin saw her from the door and squealed to his guardian's annoyance. Wiggling and smacking his hands on the table, the young Frei acted like an excited puppy with a milkbone dangled in front of him. "Aleeex!" He purred lovingly, scrambling across the booth table and into his former babysitter's arms.

It had been so horrible without her! We`rika had tried other sitters, but the little Raevan always gave them the cold shoulder. Which now that he thought about it was pretty mean, but you have to break some eggs to make an omelet. Or something like that.

The huichol sat, nodding coolly at Alex, doing his best not to just stare at her chest. It took a few moment before We`rika would look up at her, clearly anxious about something. He folded his hands on the table and sighed. "I... dunno how ta say this... so... I will jes say i'... Alex.... baby... will you marry me?"

Laughter spilled from the woman unbidden, arms twining around the ball of energy and sweetness named Sevilin. The poor woman was near plastered between the back of the booth and the wall, but she hardly seemed to mind, hugging the Frei and kissing his cheek. "Sevvie, I'm so happy to see you!" she informed the Raevan honestly, not letting go for all the world.

Or a marriage proposal.

"Of course not," she replied with good humor, smiling at the blue-haired male nestled against her. "I already wade through clawing and scratching at work, I don't want to come home to that." Keen eyes fixed upon the dark-skinned male, lofting a slender brow with amusement. "Now, really We`rika, what's the point of all this?" Alex had given up her ploy of playing it cool; not only was it impossible to do with a floating half-body that smelled like the ocean sitting in her lap, but he had put her in a considerably better mood. She would listen for the time being.

Sevilin looked back horror-struck. Marriage? Was he serious?! But then again... Chrys would be his mommy.... HOGOD! How awesome would that be?! Totally awesome! But when Alex laughed it off, the sea nymph Frowned and snuggled closer to his babysitter.

We`rika tsked amiably and leaned back in his booth with a slight creak, clicking his long claws on the table. "I dunno... I'mma sure ya'd enjoy i'..." His hands scratched gently across the table suggestively. "Okay, bu' seriously.... I..." He sighed. "wan' ta.... apologize... for ehm.... freakin' ou' on ya abou'.... Sprinkles and........ I would.... like ya ta..... come..." God this was like pulling teeth. "Babysit Sev'lin again............ if you wan'...."

She caught the frown from the watery Frei but didn't comment on it, instead peering at the dark-skinned man with scrutiny. Her fingers drew unthinkingly through Sevilin's long azure locks, her expression guarded as We`rika started to speak again. Alex couldn't help but glance briefly over her shoulder; the man sounded like he was reading from cue cards!

Green eyes blinked blankly at the shaman as he finished speaking, disbelief writ over her face. That was it? All this for an apology? AND asking her to watch over Sevilin again? Doubt creeped into the back of her mind at his intentions, especially over his reaction to Sprinkles. "I would like to watch Sevilin again," she replied in a perfectly even voice, not betraying any of her emotions until she was absolutely certain he was sincere. "That would be fine. Apology accepted."

We`rika's rigid posture melted into his usual slump at her reply. "Oh thank God... Sev'lin has been a ********' terror to th'other babysitters--"

"I have not!" The little sea fairy yowled, his usually bright face glowering with obstinacy. "They just weren't as good as Alex...! That's all..."

We`rika gaped at his ward as if he had just told him he got a girl pregnant. How dare he feign innocence for his treachery! "Half th'time ya didn' even answer th'door ta le' them in!"

"Well..." Sevilin grew an angelic frown, snuggling closer to the young woman, mainly to use her as shield in case his guardian started breathing fire. "I just didn't hear it over my headphones..."

"Riigh'! Okay...." He leaned back in the booth, his arms crossed over his chest with suspicion. "Well guess i' doesn' matter now, eh...?" His brown eyes turned to Alex.

Wide green eyes turned between the two males as they sparred verbally, leaving her more than just a little bewildered. A good deal of her surprise came from the fact that it was really all that the dinner date was for - to ask her to return to something she had enjoyed immensely. The other part was that We`rika could utter Sevilin's name in the same breath as 'terror.' It seemed immoral somehow, and possibly illegal.

Alex squeezed the Frei still bundled against her, a small giggle falling from her lips. "I still have to work," she warned both of the males, her smile easing any unpleasantness in her words, "since my source of study is close to hibernating but still active. Once Winter rolls around though, it's just mountains of paperwork, so that'll relieve my schedule considerably." It was the easy way of saying it could be put off in favor of more enjoyable activities, as her more clerical duties would await her return no matter the day's activities.

"So, just let me know what days you need, and I'll try to work around them." Her gaze returned to rest upon We`rika, her pose relaxed and comfortable. "Some days just can't be done, but I'm sure Sevvie wouldn't mind helping me observe cute little dragons like Zoe." A bright eye winked at the Raevan, patting his slim back (what there was of it).

There was, of course, one source of contest lingering. "What about Sprinkles? He being good?" Alex wasn't sure the armful of cute she was currently embracing would be enough to stop her from vaulting over the table to throttle We`rika if his answer was not...satisfactory.

"Thas fine..." We`rika started, scratching absently as he lounged back against the plush booth. "He doesn' need ya everyday an' my schedule is consisten' all weekdays so... I mean I can jes give ya a key and you can' come over when ya can. I' doesn' need to be anythin' too se' in stone. I'mma sure he can entertain himself for a few days when yer no' avail..." His brown eyes slid over To Sevilin.

"Yes, sir!" The sea fairy replied encouragingly, happy to hide his face in Alex's chest lest the mischief in his eyes be discovered. His guardian didn't need to know what he did when he left for the day. "And maybe I can help Alex with the dragons!" That would be hella fun! Like a lion tamer! Eeee!

"Well... alrigh' then... Since we came here ta ea' we migh' as well ea'..." Grabbing the laminated menus from behind the napkin dispenser against the windowed wall, the huichol scooted one over to Alex while cracking open his own.

Green eyes rolled in mild distate. Way to avoid the question, We`rika! She didn't really anticipate the man earning any brownie points, but she still tried to give others the benefit of the doubt. It occured to her she may want to stop setting herself up for disappointment.

Alex idly tapped her fingers in a patting motion against Sevilin's blue hair, not seeming phased that the Frei had nearly crawled into her bosom. Her free hand untwined from the Raevan's dainty back to accept the menu, opening it and looking over the items offered. She would have winced if she had less tact; at least the Shaman had been good to his word on it being nice!

"Thanks, 'rika," she said after a time, deciding she could at least be cordial for the meal, silently including her gratitude for the chance to babysit Sevilin again. It had turned out to be a better date than she had anticipated; maybe he would yet earn a brownie point.
