Being 17, I have certain expenses that needed to be paid for (driving school, cell phone, etc.), so I got a job. It took me awhile to get it, but I finally got one. I work at a catering hall and mostly do dishes for the events held their. I also have to work on setting up the area before the event or taking it down. I like the job and I only ever work weekends.
What about you guys? Do you have jobs? If so, do you like them? Are you looking for a job?

I'm too young to get a job, rofl.
When I'm sixteen, though, I'm thinking of working at a nursery in like.. Lowe's or something. That's where my mum's working (temporarily), too. It's pretty simple, and I like plants so it'll be fun.

Even if I wanted a job, I only have one place to get one, HardRock Cafe xD Since I would have to know fluent Danish to get a job anywhere here... I'm feeling odd xD almost 18 and no job...My parents don't want me to get one though :/ They just want me to go finish college and get a real job... I guess that's not too bad either.
Some of my friends have jobs, but that's because they're Danes. They work at the counters in markets razz Catering sounds like a lot more fun than working by the counters all day in the weekends and after school lol. It's good to like your job, it would be stressful and torturous otherwise..

I used to do some gardening in neighbor's houses...and did a part time job at a flower shop..I got sick of the smell of the roses and quit. Besides, they were only done for fun... Gardening was pretty fun though.

I work as a barista at a Barnes and Noble cafe. I'd say my affection for it waxes and wanes, depending on what's currently going on in our little espresso soaked world, but for the majority I'm fairly keen on it.
I will have to say that last night I worked the midnight release party for Stephanie Meyers new book "Breaking Dawn" and it was truly the most horrific event I have ever had to do customer service at. We were there until about 3 am, and I'm scheduled to return in an hour at 10 am. Optimistically, at least I work at a place where I can pound back the coffee until sweet oblivion takes me.

Working for a corporate behemoth is not as fantastic as you might imagine. I too had the illusion that it would be wonderful. I'm not saying I don't like my job it's just corporate America is a real man eater. If it weren't for the fact that almost all of my fellow employees are delightfully out of their minds I'd have likely quit. But the discount on books is sweet. And I get my coffee for half off, and that's double sweet. /caffeine addict

Catering is really easy. Most times I'm sitting in the kitchen helping preparing food and washing dishes and bar glasses. Then I go on break and eat whatever was prepared for dinner, which is usually pretty good.
The hours are really a bit off, but that's nothing bad I guess. Also, the only events I've worked so far are weddings. And at this point, I'm getting kind of sick of people's "happiest days of their lives."
Blech.
Though I'm working a company picnic tomorrow, in which I'll probably end up sitting outside doing nothing all day.
I could never be a barista though. One, because I have no idea what any of this coffee stuff is. If I go to Starbucks with my friends, I'm just going to grab some of those popsicle stick looking things and chew on them. And two, because I have horrible people skills. I'm too mean to them. Example being when I was taking some glass cups back to the bar, a woman stopped me and asked me if I could get her a cup of ice. So I turned to her and told her I didn't speak or understand English in Spanish (Lo siento, pero yo no comprendo o hablo Ingles). Of course she muttered something about illegal immigrants (I'm clearly white, but the dim lighting in the bar made me look Mexican I guess?), so I smiled and told her to go **** herself in Spanish (I'm not telling you guys what that one is C: )
Vete a tomar por culo = Go ******** yourself O :

✗✗Blob ^^~✗✗ Wow as a barista? surprised How long did it take you to become one? That must be pretty nice thing to do...being surrounded by the smell of coffee, mm~
And haha you and your "horrible people skills"..! Wow, yeah, that's hard to resist sometimes...But I can control it, you should try to control yourself too. You work at a lot of places :/
Wow I'm feeling odd.

Actually, it takes no time at all to become a barista. No more training than any other work place; potentially less, even. I trained for about a week and then they just threw me right in. You just kinda've learn as you go. I didn't know a thing about the production of espresso beverages until I started, but you learn extremely quickly.
I feel your pain though, about the people skills. I'm perfectly chipper and friendly as long as the customers behave themselves, but I get a little testy if they start acting a fool. I usually just have to step away from the register and let somebody else handle their hissy fit. Unfortunately, we've hired on a lot of new people recently, which means I have seniority and they look to me to help them with these things. :C Can't very well throw the babies out to the wolves, but I'm not much for diplomacy when someone's ranting and raving about us not accepting a Starbucks gift-card.

I love Stephanie Meyer's book! I didn't go to the midnight release. I went to one with Eclipse, heh, that was fun. Yeah, we got hot chocolate, not coffee, but still.
I had a job. . . Here you have to be fifteen to get a job at certain places. Since I'm 'intelligent' (*cough* They're opinion, hah.*cough*) I got the job to be a telesurveyer person. Basically I called random people up and said,"Hello, my name is _______ and I am calling on behalf of Time Warner-" something or other about how they called the customer service and I want to ask them some questions. Then I read the questions on the screen and click their answers or type them in depending and I have to ask them EXACTLY how it says, I can't explain it even when it's so simple that I just want to say,"LISTEN! Do you or don't you like Time Warner?" I mean, really.
So, after a little while of training, I was just like,"Hey, my mom's waiting, I gotta go.". And I filled out my contract thing online. (hah, they called me later and said something about my time schedule not being turned in- it was- and my application not going through.) I didn't go back. It was not pleasant. I don't talk to people, and I don't call people to harrass them about their cable company.
I mean, old people, younger adults, people who spoke Spanish. . . What I didn't like, though, was when they actually got through the survey. I felt like saying,"Thanks for putting up with this stupid thing," Heh. Only a few did, most got bored and hung up on me or got annoyed and did. No one really yelled at me, so that was good.
So I'm out of a job but I have school and that's good enough for me for now. Even if I do want the money. . .I'll find another job, perhaps typing since I'm good at that. Some kind of transcriptionist .Heh, yeah, wonder if they'd bother to hire a kid.

Oh geez, that sounds like something really fun to do...call people, ask questions and so on...If I received any of the calls like that, I would probably have hung up right away or hung up in the middle of it...I don't get why people would be bothered to take time and answer things like that...And yeah, typing is fun.
I hope you get a job you like when you get one man...^^

Unfortunately, 14 is too young to get a real job. Right now I'm babysitting. Which, I must say, is not my dream job. Working at Barnes and Nobles would be nice, but I wouldn't really work. I would probably sleep. Heh. It's a hobby of mine. But really, marching band seems to be my full time job lately. It's fun, but tiring.
Wow. Calling random people? I wish I had the guts to do that. Alas, I'm very phone shy when it comes to strangers. After I hang up, I usually start hyperventilating or something. Heh.
But what I really want to do it write. Maybe occasionally for magazines, but I'd really like to write novels and such. I suppose script-writing isn't so bad either.
