A few days ago my boyfriend and I attempted to have sex for the first time. It was the first time he was able to enter me without a huge amount of pain, however, when he started pushing it felt kind of like he was punching me at the end of every thrust.

For reference, we are both in our twenties, we were using a condom, I'm taking BC Pills, and we had additional lubrication. We also tried it both missionary and doggie-style and in both positions I felt the same pain.

I was just wondering if anyone else has felt this sort of thing before, or if you might know what's causing it. Any help/insight would be very greatly appreciated! Thanks.

Pain is usually a sign that you don't have enough lubrication, so you always try using a bit more to see if it helps. Make sure it is water-based.

The second most common cause of pain is being tense, so always try to relax.

However, if it felt like he was punching you with every thrust, it sounds like the problem might be that he is hitting your cervix. It happens to some women, and most women find it painful or uncomfortable when it does happen. Some positions will allow him to hit your cervix more, so you might have to try a bunch of different positions to see what is the most comfortable. You can also try telling him to not enter you completely but only about halfway and see if that causes any pain. The cervix moves up and down throughout the month as our cycles change, so some women find that their partner hits their cervix at some times but not others. However, I am not sure if birth control pills would have an effect on how your cervix moves or not. In more extreme cases, women consider surgery if their cervix is abnormally low. So if you try all that stuff and still can't get rid of the pain, make sure you talk to your ob-gyn about it.
