But in the series did kakashi ever verse Tobi?

it is confirmed...tobi is uchiha madara.
if kakashi would fight tobi, of course tobi would win. he is so powerful although it's not obvious

Here is my answer to this but I don't want to ruin anything and I am new so I decided to post it all in white.
Kakashi and Tobi have already fought, the battle was not a 1 on 1, it was a 8 on 1, with Kakashi having 8 people including him on his team, the team was Kakashi, Yamato, Naruto, Sakura, Sai, Hinata, shino and Kiba. And through all of the fighting the 8 did against tobi, they couldn't even hit him. So in a fight Kakashi would get owned... No offense of course.
