The break of dawn. Sura simply loved this time of day. The sun's first rays had broken from the veil of night, reaching their fingers far and wide, tinging the sky of glorious shades of pastel and banishing the moon and stars away. The beginning, the start of the sun's reign over yet another beautiful day.
On one side, Sura could see the night sky, still fighting valiantly to remain as it was, and on the other, the sun beginning to peak up over the horizon. From where the lioness lay she was just about in the middle of it all, watching as light slowly crept across the dark canvas of the night.
Most did not particularly enjoy this period of time, just between night and day, when it was quite on either side. Sura, on the other hand, loved the gray area. A place of indefinite possibilities, of chance and fate all at once. Where there was no need to be right or wrong, simply in the middle. Decisions mattered precious little during this time of day, when hardly anyone else was awake and it was just her alone with the night and day.

The young lioness skidded around a corner as she rushed to get a good view of the morning sun. She had heard the wonders of the breaking of day, the dismissal of night, and she wanted to experience it. Only young, Mwujuzi had so much more of the world to experience, but for now she was content to experience things one at a time.
The excited cub burst into the area where the white and grey lioness was, Mwujuzi didn't care that she might be interrupting someone, in fact she was glad to have the chance to experience the sunrise with another.
"Oh, wow! It's Amaaaaazing!" Her teal eyes grew wide as she wondered at the sight.

Sura started in surprise as the golden pelted cub burst in on the scene. It was the break of dawn... nobody was supposed to be up and about, much less a youngster like the little cub.
Still, the cub's unashamed admiration for the sunrise brought to Sura a sense of camaraderie. There they were, the two of them, sharing one of the world's most beautiful phenomenons, both finding it as breathtaking as the other did.
Besides, it wasn't like Sura had a right to claim this time of day as her own, and sharing it didn't seem like the worst thing in the world. Someday, she mused, she would have to drag Jaha out of his sleep and bring him here to watch.
Decided not to delay the greetings any longer, Sura focused her attention to the excited little cub, whose eyes, she noted, were startlingly like her own. That same shade of brilliant, iridescent turquoise. "It really is amazing, isn't it?"

The golden lioness cub nodded in a agreement with the other. Her young mind blossoming in the wonder that was the sun rise. She watched as the white sun broke across the black horizon, puring light and life onto the land. For a cub so young, she was taking an interest in things outside her infant minds comprehension, but she didn't care, all she cared about was how pretty it looked.
"Yeah, it is! Splendiferous!" Whispered Mwujuzi.
Her small tail flicked in wonder. She couldn't wait for tomorrow morning!

The white lioness grinned. What an idea. The sunrise, it certainly merited enough credit to deserve a word unto itself to describe it. Sura nodded in agreement. "Yea. Splendiferous, that's exactly it."
To Sura, though, it was more than simply just a sunrise. With light came warmth, life, wind through the grasses. And at times, the sun's rising each day was the only anchor in life. The only thing that could be counted on, day in and day out. It was was symbol of life.
Yet for all her musings, every time she watched the great ball of fire ascending into the sky, all she ever saw was the beauty of it all. Ah, to be a cub. She truly missed that blissful way of life, seeing things for what they were and not finding the need to analyse it. She wondered what it was that took such simple joys of life away from them all as they grew. Cubhood was certainly the most enjoyable part of life.
"This is your first time out here watching the sunrise, then?" She asked. Given the cub's reaction, she assumed it was so.
