Unfortunately, probably the only thing that I've played that is french would be a song called "Parisian Boulevards," which sounded like a carnival gone bad.
Actually, Ravel's Pavane For A Dead Princess is french, and that is a beautifully expressive piece. So I do like French music. It is very difficult, however; the Pavane requires a floating, expressive bow that runs contrary to Mozart, Hayden, Beethoven, Vivaldi and many many others. It's a good challenge. Personally I prefer Austrian, Italian and Romanian music styles, but that is because I have not been exposed to much in the French style of playing.

Are you talking about classical music, or about folk music. Because I also like folkmusic from whatever country: klezzmer, jazz, Irish folkmusic, folkmusic of the balkan lands, I like polish folkmusic, but I don't play it jet and I want to do much more!

Mostly classical; that's what I play. But each country's classical style borrows and is influenced by its folk music.

Well, the most known French music is from the impressionistic period - The only period that actually made France stand up as a music country, since most often the world's leading music centers have been in Italy, Germany or Austria.
I love Debussy very much, though he doesn't have too many solo violin pieces. But both his piano and orchestra pieces are marvellous. It's all about harmony, not that much about melody with him. ^^
