Too many images. xD; So, instead I give you..!
Crimson's Fox Journal!
Arashi's Fox Journal!
~~~ ~~~ ~~~ Teles wasn't normally one to panic. She was cool and level headed almost all the time. But this...this was...it was..!
"Taaaaaaaaaaeeeeeeeeeel!" Birds lit from their branches as Teles shouted; it was a call for help, a call for her love, her friend...to come. And come now.
Teles stared, wide-eyed, at the objects before her. There were two. They were exquisitely decorated. And Mameha said...they were for Teles and Taelence. Her head throbbed, and her scream hadn't done much to help the morning-after-hangover from all the drinking they had done the night before. Teles couldn't remember what happened, at all. But the bowls...they signified something wondrous, something that...well, it happened.
It happened. And now there were two bowls in front of her.
Teles was close to hysterics. Her breath came in rapid gasps, as if she'd ran for miles. Her sapphire eyes looked around wildly as she waited for her friend. She paced like a caged tiger, giving the two bowls a fair bit of room; as though she didn't want to be close, but couldn't stand herself to be far away, either.
She stopped a moment, quivering. Most assuredly, she had alerted everyone in Tael's family, too. Rose, and...and Ariston, too. She swallowed the lump that had suddenly lodged itself there. What was she? Some depraved, slut of a fox that took advantage of her best friend in a trying time?! Her pacing became quicker, more agitated, and the fur near her ears became damp with her sweat, along with her flanks. She worked herself into a frenzy, and she wasn't even sure if Tael could calm her down.
God, she hoped Tael arrived first.
Teles didn't know what to do. She didn't know what to think. She could admit - if only to herself - that the bowls were already firmly planted in her heart...but what would the others think? Rose would say something snarky, there was no doubt. Teles could handle that, she thought. But Ariston. What would he say? What would he do? She told herself it didn't matter, willed herself to believe it.
'He can think what he wants! All that matters is Tael accepts them... That's all that matters!'
Taelence was, at that moment, having a picnic with her foster brother, Ariston, and her foster sister, Rose. She had woken up that morning with the most horrible headache and almost no memory of the night before. However, as she was in her own nest* she assumed that she and Teles had partied and then headed home. Still she had Crimson call Arashi and ask after Teles. But Arashi had confermed that, while she was smashed out of her mind, Teles had indeed made it home safely and was sleeping her hangover off. Satisfied, Tael had then suggested, to help relieve some of her lingering funk, that the family go on a picnic by the lake. Crimson, being the responsible adult, declined on the fact that she had to work. Someone, she reminded them, had to bring home the bacon. So that left Ariston and a surprisingly agreeable Rose whom left for the lake side with a huge picnic basket.
The whole affair was surprisingly peaceful. Rose seemed to be in a much better mood than normal; Ariston speculated that it was because she'd spent the whole day the day before with a mysterious gardening partner and Taelence suspected that she wasn't as truly frosty as she seemed, but whatever the reason it made lunch pleasant.
Rose was experimenting with her wings and Ariston was explaining Hallie's Comet to Taelence when a very loud shriek shattered the silence.
It was unmistakably Teles. More importantly she was calling for Taelence. Even more importantly, if it was possible, was that she was obviously in distress.
Taelence took off without a second's thought, though Ariston stayed for a moment, trying to process what was going on.
"That was..." Rose said, staring at Ariston.
"Teles, yes," he replied, a worried look on his face. "Come on."
They ran after Taelence only to hear her own shriek.
"Teles, what the bloody hell is going on?! Are you ok?! Why are you..."
As Rose and Ariston moved into the clearing they saw several things that didn't make sense.
Teles was pacing frantically. Her body was covered in sweat and her eyes were practically rolling in her head.
Taelence was sitting down away from Teles, looking at something placed in between them.
Both looked like the world as they knew it had just come crashing down about their very ears.
"Are those...?" Rose asked, staring at the two objects disbelievingly.
Ariston's breath caught in his throat.
"Yeah," he murmured, just as disbelievingly as Rose. "Those are bowls."
Taelence gulped audibly. She shook her head once, twice, to see if the image in front of her would go away. It didn't.
This isn't possible.
She looked back up at Teles, and saw the same fear she was feeling reflected in her best friend's eyes.
"What happened last night?"
Teles just couldn't stop shaking.
What did she do? How would she deal with these...results? Would Tael be okay with it--them? What about with her? She kept the questions swimming around her head from straying to Ariston, and what he would think. Those were dangerous thoughts. Her desperation was clear to anyone that looked at her.
And when Tael arrived...it took a few moments to register. By the time Ariston and Rose had shown up, the charcoal vixen had spotted Tael. With a cry, Teles leaped over the bowls - whose beads clinked together in the faintly stirring breeze from Teles's sudden movement - and collided with Taelence, immediately falling into a sobbing, incoherent mess.
"Oh, Tael, what did I d-do?! I don't--nnh. Tael. I can't--I don't know... I...I... I'm sorry! What--I took...but--didn't mean. Oh Goddess! I took--advantage. So, so sorry!"
Teles, now unable to get any word out, burried her face into Taelence's soft coat. Her head throbbed harder, the combination of a hangover and her tears not helping. She was completely distressed, and the underlying question of what Ariston would think and do...well, that scared her as well. She couldn't bear even the thought of it. It was just too much. What she'd apparently done to Tael, the resulting bowls, the thought of what was to come...it was just too much.
Taelence went into automatic comfort mode. She held Teles, rubbing her back and making soothing shushing noises. Her mind however spun so fast she was surprised that she was still sitting upright.
There was only so long that her body could keep in auto-pilot before Teles would know something was wrong. Tael needed to figure out things now.
Apparently things had happened last night, though it was very hazy. And that had lead to...bowls. Two of them. Okay, she followed this so far.
Teles blamed herself for it. Taelence mentally frowned. Something was bubbling to the surface. Be with me. Lie with me. Familiar...why were those phrases so familiar. Oh right, she'd said that to Teles. So no, it wasn't completely her fault. If anything, Taelence shouldn't have gotten them so drunk last night.
I don't blame Teles. More than likely, I don't think I'm a virgin anymore. And...I'm a mother? Maybe it was shock, but she wasn't terribly upset over these events. Or maybe it was because Teles was a puddle at her feet that kept her so calm. No use in having them both panic over this.
Whatever the reason, Taelence was now faced with the very real reality that her life was most definitely not her own any more.
"Shhh, Teles. It's okay. Listen to me, okay? This is not your fault. Do you understand me? This is not your fault. Things were a little dicey last night. And it's obvious something happened. But we'll work through this," Taelence lifted Teles chin so that the other vixen would look at her. She wiped the tears from Teles's face with her free paw. "I'm not mad, not upset. Especially at you, okay?"
Taelence smiled, that sweet winning smile.
"We'll figure this out. How about you start by telling me how you got these bowls first huh?"
Ariston down with a slight flop. His struggled with himself. He wanted to go to Teles, to comfort her, to tell her that everything would be ok, just as Taelence was doing. But another part of him knew that Teles and Taelence needed to sort their end out first. So he watched in pain, as Teles cried and Taelence comforted her, torn and for once in his life, having absolutely no idea what to do.
Rose, for once, didn't make a snide or smart remark. Instead she walked over to inspect the two bowls. She lay down beside them, gently flicking the beads on the chopsticks.
"You both are probably a little confused right now," she whispered. "Don't worry, you're not the only ones. But once all this hype is down, you should know you two kinda have great parents. They just don't know it yet."
She sighed and stared at their patterns.
"Things aren't going to be easy, but you two come from two of the strongest vixens I know. Whatever role you're going to play when you grow older, you both are destined for greatness. I can feel it. So, don't worry about the commotion out here for now. You were a little unexpected. But not unloved."
She patted their sides gently and turned her attention back to her a**-backwards family.
Why couldn't I have come to a normal family? Was it really too much to ask for?
Her shoulders heaved, and even though Tael's reassuring comfort calmed her somewhat, she couldn't seem to catch her breath properly. Her mind was, literally, a whirlwind of thoughts. Mostly centered around what happened last night, and her lack of memory.
When Tael lifted her chin, Teles caught sight of Rose by the bowls. She stared, body bracing as she prepared to hiss at the demonic kit. But as abruptly as it had come, the reflex left, as Tael spoke again, her eyes finally moving to Tael's... Despite the words Tael said, Teles was genuinely afraid of what she would see there, the same went for Ariston...as she knew, eventually, he would come, if he wasn't here already... She risked a glance, and just about keeled over. He was here!
Teles whimpered and instinctively buried her head against Tael once more, breath hitching in her throat in her panic. Right now, Tael was her rock, and in some part of her mind, Teles realized that Tael would be needing her soon, too...so they could get through this.
"Ara...wanted me to go outside, to maybe get some fresh air, so she took me to the shop...and I was sleeping on the window sil... And--and then..." Her eyebrows furrowed as she struggled to take in a breath. "Mameha came out. With two bowls. And, and I can't remember what she said! Only that they were yours and mine!"
Teles groaned, a miserable sound, and sank down to the ground in a hunched-up ball, as if she would fly apart into little pieces if she dared to unfold herself from the position she was in.
"What..." She hiccuped, tried to take a breath. "What are we going to do with them?"
There was a quiver in her voice, which probably would have only been loud enough for Tael to hear. "I...don't know....if I'm ready for this, Tael. I can barely breathe right now. I don't know what to do. Would you like them both? Do we give them a-a-away?"
Teles, despite how panicked she was, couldn't stand the thought of giving them away to complete strangers. They came from Tael, so they had to be good, but Teles was sure she couldn't do this...that she wasn't ready. She whimpered, and moved her head to look up at Tael with pleading eyes.
"What are we going to do with them?"
The other foxes stayed silent as Taelence put a comforting arm around her best friend and curled up beside her. The shock was starting to wear off a bit, but she was still calm, which surprised her. But then again, maybe it shouldn't. Teles was always so cool and collected, maybe because that was the only way she could deal with the crap life threw her way. This situation was pretty overwhelming, maybe so overwhelming that it had finally just broken Teles of her collected demeanor. For that, Taelence could not blame her.
"Shhh Teles, shhhh. Calm down, okay? Breathe in, breathe out," Taelence frowned as Teles suggested giving the bowls away. "We...we could give them away, if that's what you want...but..." she paused. Taelence wanted to keep them. They were a part of her and a part of Teles. Maybe it was her motherly instinct gearing up, but something told her she couldn't let these bowls go.
She thought to look to Ariston and Rose for help, but she knew that this was her problem alone. She reached out and pulled the bowls to her one at a time. The noodles inside glistened and shook for a moment before settling down. She looked down at them, love in her eyes and knew in that instant that she was a mother now and forever. There wasn't any going back.
-= (( I should be shot for leaving this for so long ._.;; ))
"C-Can't...can't give them away." She stuttered, heaving an inward breath. She shook her head. Oh, she knew. She was long gone after them, and even the thought of giving them away had her quivering in fear. Fear. Not something she was used to. At all. And when she looked up at Tael as she brought them close, she knew that even if she wanted to give them up, Tael wouldn't.
She ducked her head, pressed it against Taelence's pristine white fur, and concentrated on taking deep, slow breaths, still feeling like the world was crumbling to bits around her. She didn't look at Rose, or Ariston. She was ashamed of her own outburst, how she lost her grip when it came to a pair of totally innocent bowls. It was humbling and disturbing at the same time...
...but now there was relief. Tael didn't hate her, didn't hate the bowls. That made things bearable. ...that was probably the reason she had flipped out in the first place. But...
"T-Tael..." She murmured, squeezing her eyes shut, keeping her voice lowered so that none of the others could hear. "D...Don't fe-eel trapped by this...okay..? I...I love you, and everything...but don't feel trapped. Oh pl-please...d-d-don-n't."
Taelence held Teles tighter. What ever this situation would turn out to be, she could not feel trapped. She had given up Teles already, given her wholeheartedly to Ariston. And already she could feel the attraction between the two of them. When Ariston had come home that night after meeting Teles, her friend was all he could talk about. He wasn't even aware he was doing it. He thought he was giving Taelence the details of how the evening had gone. Taelence knew better however. This certainly complicated things. What Ariston thought now, Taelence could only guess at. But if he was the amazing fox Taelence knew him to be, he would accept it as just something that just happened to happen and move on in his and Teles's relationship.
"Teles, you have nothing to fear. Let's just get this through one step at a time..." She looked over in Ariston's direction. "What are you going to tell him?"
Rose got up and started to walk towards her garden. As much a part of the family as she was, recognized when to back out. This was Taelence and Teles's thing. They needed to work it out. And Ariston, unfortunately was a part of it too. Rose decided to leave them to it, and instead looked forward to a day with Warren.
Ariston was still keeping his distance, trying to figure out his own role in all of this before he talked to Teles or Taelence. He didn't feel betrayed or hurt, like some might think he'd feel. He was still just worried about Teles. So he sat there patiently, wondering what would happen now.
Teles closed her eyes. One step at a time? She could try that. ...it just meant that she would have to relax, first. Relax. That would take a while. Her whole body felt like a quivering mound of that Jell-O that they could find at the shop sometimes. Teles slumped, laying her chin upon Tael's shoulder; a nice alternative to the rocky ground.
She heaved a sigh, ears drooping to the sides. Tael's whispered question had them twitching. ...Ariston? ...that threw a knot in things, but...well, she couldn't regard him as a true friend just yet, let alone whatever Tael obviously thought.
Giving a halfhearted snort, she shrugged. "...it's easy to see just what happened...and there's no going back..."
Teles closed her eyes and leaned away from her friend, but not before nuzzling her briefly, heaving another sigh as she glanced at the bowls, keeping her tail tucked around herself. This...would take a while to get used to.
Taelence nodded. There wasn't any going back, that was obvious. Whatever their lives had been or could have been was gone now. She curled her tail around the light blue bowl and pulled it closer toward her.
She felt connected with this one, though she couldn't say that she wasn't connected with the other as well. This one, however seemed to exude a certain warmth she generally associated with herself. The light gray bowl had Teles's dignity. Taelence smiled as she noticed the similarities and differences between her two boys....boys? She was suddenly startled.
How do I know that these are my sons? She thought to herself. But once the idea was planted into her head, she knew she couldn't deny it. These were her sons.
"Umm...Do you know that we have two boys?" she asked Teles. Her face scrunched up as more realizations poured into her head. "We need to think up names..."
And then the worst thought of all. Her ears drooped slightly, but Taelence knew she had to broach the subject.
"Who are they going to live with?"
"...boys..?" She inquired, looking at Tael before casting her eyes down to the two flowered bowls. Taelence had her tail coiled around the blue bowl...that looked like it...he...had butterfly wings. ...yes...yes, they were boys. Gently, unsure, she pulled the gray bowl in front of them both.
...she hadn't a clue how to raise something, let alone a boy. Then again, she'd be in the same situation if it was a girl. Her ears pricked and her gaze swivelled to Taelence, taking in the emotion within her eyes.
"..." Teles frowned silently and scooted closer to the vixen that meant so much to her. Flicking her tail around her, she nuzzled her jaw. "...it...wouldn't be fair, either way, if they both stayed with one of us. ...at the same time, it...is not fair that they should be separated... But... Tael...we'll come visit as often as we can, if we decide to...each take one."
Teles flicked her ears, glancing down at the two bowls. "...if you were given the choice...which would you choose..? If we decide to each take one, that is."
