User ImageThe air was warm and still. Stifling. She stirred; restless, unable to stay still, but it was too uncomfortable to move.

She could blame the weather. She could. But she had never been one to shy away from cold, hard truths- she was lonely.

It was ironic, in a way. She spent all her life pushing others away; pretending not to care. But after she had foals, Xai'Liin realised she liked the closeness; hated the affection, but liked the company. And raising foals; trying to teach them right from wrong, to be better unisus...

But she had done such a bad job. She frowned; her offspring never came near her, and barely knew their father because of her. One of them hated himself; another one hated everyone else, and her little girl... Well, at least she turned out well.

Xai'Liin sighed, taking a couple of steps in one direction before changing her mind and going another way. She just wished she had a memory of someone she hadn't hurt- and part of her hated herself for being so sentimental.

User ImageKynan shifted uncomfortably in the warm air, not particularly disturbed, but seeking some patch of shade...

With all the foals disappearing, and some adults as well, he was growing rapidly more nervous. The gentle stallion wasn't worried about himself, but his healer instincts led him to seek the safety of others. And the valley, a haven for unisi for centuries, was no longer safe.

Shaking the thought, he trotted towards the dense forest, where it would doubtless be cooler. He couldn't think in this heat.

Xai'Liin was doing little more than pacing back and forth; her ears back, and semi-transparent wings quivering. She hated this tension- it reminded her of just before a storm, but it was her, not the weather. She wanted something- anything- to break the tension, the cause of which still eluded her.

She snorted and shook her head; her slender flanks twitching. She was just so... So agitated! She didn't know whether to head deeper into the trees or to head to the plains; didn't know whether to try to sleep, or to fly and try to escape these feelings that back. She just felt... Restless.

User ImageKynan pricked his ears at the sound of hooves. Back and forth they went, a little further away and then coming closer again. Either someone was lost, or agitated. Either way, help might be needed.

Careful to avoid trampling as many plants as possible, he made his way through the brush and trees. He really loved the trees--always so silent, solemn, never criticizing, just listening to his heart's cries. He could stay here all day, just mingling with the trees. But he went on towards the hoofbeats.

Xai'Liin paused for a moment in her pacing; wondering if she heard something. But amost instantly she resumed her pacing. It's the edge of the woods, of course you heard something. She scolded herself- not just her reaction, but for so many other things.

She had been alone as a foal; and as a yearling, she had been hurt by another. Nobody had ever cared for her; and she never understood why she should ever let anybody close, if all they would do would hurt her. But now she hated herself for it- she was lonely.

((Well, Kynny's getting plenty of roleplay! Which is good, because I plan to elder him, more than any others. User Image))

User ImageKynan wasn't worried when the pacing stopped--he had a rather good sense of direction. He hadn't always, but after getting lost as a yearling with another foal...well, he'd learned to keep his bearings.

There among the trees stood a beautiful mare, paused and hesitating. Considering whether to run? Perhaps he had disturbed her. Small shafts of sunlight through the trees glinted off her gold markings, countered by a darker, richer red-brown. He caught his breath, surprised. Was she even real?

((I want whoever ends up with a decent family to be an Elder. ^_^ ))

This time, she was sure- she looked up and there was a unicorn, staring at her. She blinked, more than a little surprised; but unbothered.
Habit told her to turn and leave; but her recent thoughts, the feeling of loneliness, coaxed her otherwise. Perhaps here was an answer to her prayers; the potential to start again and try to avoid making mistakes.

Still, she had no idea what to say to him. Her delicate wings quivered before lying along her back and she gazed back; lost for words. She wanted to be social- but hadn't the slightest idea how to set it into motion.

User ImageKynan caught himself staring and nervously broke his gaze. "I--I heard you pacing, and I was wondering if something was wrong," he stammered nervously. "Are you in need of any help?"

He felt silly, but if someone was in need, he wanted to be there to mend it. Ever since discovering his rather exceptional healing skills, he'd wanted to put them to good use. This attitude extended to the rest of his life.

Xai'Liin was even more taken aback at his query. Why a complete stranger would care enough to check she was okay...! She gaped a little, then cleared her throat.

"I thank you for your concern." Her accent held a trace of snobbery; it was certaintly not a warm voice, but she didn't know how to let it be so.
"I was uninjured, just... Tense. Tell me, do you feel a tension in the air? I cannot tell if it is the weather- or me."
PostPosted: Wed Jul 30, 2008 10:34 pm

User ImageKynan frowned slightly at the mare's voice, but wasn't overly bothered. He was rather used to hostility, sometimes even preferring it to friendliness. It was more predictable...

With a small smile, he acknowledged the mare's question. Who hadn't felt the unease? "If you mean a certain sense of...agitation...and unsafeness, then yes, I do." He considered for a moment, then added, "It seems to be everywhere lately, tormenting everyone." The unisi were becoming uncommonly short-tempered and easily offended. The whole situation bothered him to no end.

User ImageXai'Liin gave him a slightly critical look. Despite the fact that she was tiny, she never felt intimidated- the suggestion seemed rediulous.
"Unsafeness? Not in the slightest." Her voice was haughty; showing what she thought of the suggestion.

"But agitation- yes. It seems to be recent- today, now. It feels like the weather before a storm breaks- still, heavy, humid; stifling, like you can hardly breathe it." She shook her slender head; what a rediculous conversation.

Still... At least she was having a conversation. It made her feel mixed up; a part of her didn't feel like she should need to talk to another, but another part was glad for the company at long last.

User ImageKynan frowned slightly, wondering why she was so...put off...by his response. Had he said something wrong?

"I would describe it more as a danger than a storm, but yes, it is stifling." It seemed he had not met a single unisus unaffected by the strange atmosphere.

Suddenly feeling that he might be a nuisance, he asked hesitantly, "I'm sorry to have bothered you; if you have need to be alone, I can go.

Xai'Liin blinked; opened her mouth, then close it again. Normally she would have loved to be left alone; and a part of her still wished she could be now. But she had been lonely- even if she would never show the weakness to another, she wasn't so weak that she would even deny it to herself. She huffed slightly.

"No. It is okay- I haven't had company for a long time." On an impulse, the mare moved a little way through the trees, to a nearby stream. She knew this part of the woods very well and tended to stay close to water. The small fae bent and drank; she hadn't even realised she was thirsty.
PostPosted: Thu Jul 31, 2008 4:09 pm

User ImageA little confused but nevertheless undeterred, Kynan followed the mare towards the stream, leaving a respectful distance between them. Somehow he felt that here was a unisus in need of a friend, even if she did not know it. She seemed...indecisive, as if finally coming to grips with a longing she hadn't known of.

Startled at his own keen senses, Kynan watched her drink. A fae, she was even smaller than Kanoa--and that was saying something. Yet Kanoa said she had had foals, by a pegasus. Surely he was much larger than her. She must be tenacious, stubborn, and strong for her size, to have carried those foals.

((I ran out of things to say, so the end is a little abrupt... xd Kynan's too good at sensing things and reasoning out answers. User Image))

Go on then... Say something...! Xai'Liin berated herself; she had no idea what to say, and in such a situation, her first response was to block out company entirely. She frowned for a moment, her back still to the unicorn, before she opened her mouth.

"You'll have to forgive me. I am not accustomed to company."
Mmm, nice. Subtle. The unisus rolled her eyes at her rediculousness.
