"If I had a dead rat for every time somebody called you stupid, I'd have a ton of rats by now." Tsotsi explained loudly, staring down at the carcass of a heron. Blood splattered and marred its pristine-white feathers and its wings were sprawled in broken, odd shapes. "First, you fly off. So, I chase you. Then, you fly into a river?" he laughed. He sighed, staring down at the dead body as though it were some poor thing. "I guess no one ever taught you about crocodiles, huh?" He laid down next to the heron with a loud grunt and rolled onto his back. "You got away in the end, but you're dead now. I guess I should probably eat you." He stared at the cloudless sky, feeling the hot sun soak into his black fur.
"I've sunken low, haven't I...?" he murmured under his breath. "I'm talking to a dead heron..." Tsotsi closed his eyes slowly, blocking out memories that threatened to surface. It'd been a long time since he'd spoken with something...Someone living. But he knew it was best that way. He'd honor the promise he made to himself that day. He'd never talk to anyone again, not even a girl. But Tsotsi smirked. "Well, maybe..." He shook his head, throwing his thoughts away. No, never again.

Instead of 'obeying' mommy and staying inside the den, Seriti had wandered off in the moment of smelling blood. Her senses were very fond of blood, since she loved to cause pain to small creatures like rats, birds, and other wandering creatures. She didn't go after big creatures though, fearing she might lose her life instead of 'killing' the giant monster. Seriti did consider killing something bigger than her when she got older. For now, she'd watch and marvel those big animals that roamed the savannah.
"Hey! Heyheyhey!"
This was strange for her. Seriti never spoke like she was a pup. She was easily annoyed, easily set off. Others knew not to mess with the rather sadistic hyena, even if she was seen as a nice pup when they FIRST meet her.
Seeing the blood and the bird, she let out a small growl. She could easily see the black and white belted hyena. What made her blink was the fact he was... talking. To a dead bird.
Okay. Strange. Really strange. No, VERY strange.
"Uh, are you okay?" She asked harshly, not meaning to.

Tsotsi's ears flew up at the sound of a voice. It was female-sounding and young, but it was still a voice. He flipped over onto his feet in a blur of fast motion and faced whoever was speaking to him.
It was a hyena pup.
A black, female hyena pup.
Her blue eyes sparkled with irritation and she had a demanding sort of demeanor. Where had she come from, he wondered? And what possessed her to speak to someone she didn't even know? What a naive girl.
Tsotsi had been wandering in the middle of no where on his own for a very long time. Maybe the little girl was lost? Or a loner like him...But he shook those thoughts away. Even though he was shocked (and secretly delighted) that someone was speaking to him, he refused to acknowledge her. He'd made a promise that he intended to keep.
So, he turned his back, slowly veering his gaze away from the girl, and took a seat beside the dead heron. Maybe if he started talking to it again, she'd go away...?

Seriti mused silently to herself. Those tactics weren't going to work on her. If he thought they would, then he was completely wrong, and she wasn't going to take that kind of attitude from anyone. She noticed he was looking at that dead bird again, she started wondering if he'd start talking to it again. That would be a sight. He'd gone insane, or the bird was seriously talking to him.
Haha. She'd like to know how to communicate with a bird that had already expired. "So, are you crazy, or do you think I'm a hallucination, or-" She paused, a grin growing on her face, Seriti was apparently enjoying this. To her; this was just for the amusement. To him; she was unsure, maybe he'd get angry?
"Or is that bird talking to you? Because if it is, I'd like to know how." Her eyes hovered down to look at the bird. A smirk was on her face, and she was satisfied with her little retort.
He was not about to get away with ignoring her either. She'd just keep pestering him until he finally burst. Well, she wouldn't tolerant it if he burst... but it was worse a try.

Tsotsi felt words bubbling into his mouth and tried desperately to hold them down. Jumping to a standing position, he ripped out one of the heron's blood-sprinkled feathers and held the quill sideways in his jaw so that the soft feather brushed his cheek. Knowing something was in his mouth keeping him from talking was a great help. He chewed it slowly in thought, examining the girl pup through the corner of his eye, still not wanting to fully acknowledge her. A smirk tugged at his lips and despite the feather, he could not keep that down.
She was a gutsy one, he thought to himself. She was black, just like him; cocky, just like he was when he was a pup. Well, maybe he still was a little cocky...But that was beside the point he was trying to make to himself. Actually, he didn't know what point he was trying to make to himself. There was a female who was a hyena and a pup, standing right in front of him, talking to him. The urge to speak to something living was so unbearable...He didn't know how long he could go without saying at least one word.
Tsotsi chewed the feather delicately and turned his head, continuing to ignore her. Just for a little longer...No, for a LOT longer. That was the promise he made to himself, dangit, and he was going to keep it.

Seriti raised an eye brow, "Well, I hope Heron feathers are on the menu," She eyed the feather in his mouth, seeing the blood staining the feather. She licked her lips eagerly, feeling her stomach growl furiously from where she stood. Dang it. "Because they actually look tasty." A comment rolled off her tongue, and she finished with a nod of her head. Seeing the smirk on his face the female pup grinned, knowing her words were starting to have an effect on him, even though he seemed to be holding back words. Her grin turned into a bloody smile, tail wagging.
"Speak?" She sounded like she was demanding rather than questioning. Oh he was fun to toy with. If he didn't reply anytime soon, Seriti had already devised a plan to screech sing. Everyone so far she had screech sang to had screamed at her, telling Seriti to shut up and stuff. Except mommy and daddy, they'd never say things like that to her. If they did, who knows how guilty they'd feel afterward.
Oh well.
A paw extended to step forward. A tail lash, grinning, smiling... She padding closer to him, blinking innocently. "So are 'ya gonna speak soon?"
Ah, annoyance. Just what she liked to do.

Taking a step back, one paw raised, eyes wide, Tsotsi bit down hard on the heron feather.
...Was she coming onto him?
Pfft, what a fool. She was only a pup...There was no way he'd let someone so young mess with him. He'd show her. He'd show her that he was tough and mature, unlike HER. He'd tell her exactly what he'd been through and then she'd see. She'd see she was just an immature mama's-girl. But there was one problem with that...
He couldn't talk.
Tsotsi bit back a groan that threatened to escape his throat and he continued to stare at the girl. She was definitely a pryer...Something told him she got her way in everything she did. But then, did she even have parents? What were they like? Maybe they were like Sau-- Tsotsi stopped his thoughts and glanced at the heron's carcass. He wouldn't say her name. He wouldn't think about her. He had to focus on that...Pup.
Tsotsi raised an eyebrow and gave the pup a wicked smile, displaying his sharp, white teeth, now slightly reddened by the blood from the heron's feather. He shrugged in a helpless manner, still keeping his smile. Maybe the girl was witless and would believe he was mute?

Oh.
He was dead.
Just the look in his eyes told her one thing: He spoke, once. Except something was holding him back. What was that? She was going to find out, if he liked it or not. Her glance rested on the teeth, bloody with heron blood. She responded with a grin of her own, revealing white teeth. Seriti was forming other glorious plans of her own to make the male snap. She wanted him to yell, of course. It was strange to meet a pup who was so fond of yelling.
She had grown accustomed to yelling. Meeting other creatures whom yelled at her, Seriti enjoyed when another fumed. Especially if she was the reason. He was no exception; there had to be a time where the hyena had yelled. Everyone yells, even mama and daddy. It's just they never yelled at her, because she figured they didn't want their baby girl growing to be like a yelling little brat.
Well she had news for them.
She was already a little brat.
"Come on," This time she sounded impatient, even looking impatient. She was going to get her way. "Speak, you know you want too."
Another stray smile.

Ahaha, what a petty little girl.
She really was a brat. Tsotsi had met MANY brats, jerks, fools in his life (which was shorter than he realized), but this girl took the cake; as far as brats went, anyway. She was spoiled to the core from what it looked like. But despite her whining, prying and demands, Tsotsi was intrigued. But that wasn't a good thing. Well, it was, but he didn't want it to be.
Erasing his grin for a moment, he chewed the quill of the heron feather slowly, mulling over her "orders". Since getting her to believe he was mute didn't work out and ignoring her didn't seem to be working...There was just one option left.
He had to plan.
Eyes flicking over to the bloodied body of the dead heron, a spark suddenly lit up in his red eyes. With a sharp smirk that stretched the feather to its full length, Tsotsi stared down the girl. He had it. He had a plan. IT WAS SO EXCELLENT. He screamed praises to himself. But enough staring and smirking, he told himself. It was time to take action. Raising himself up from his seated position, he stood, his tail swaying with the sudden motion.
Then he ran.
He bolted in the direction opposite of the pup, gripping the feather as tightly as he could. He didn't understand why he was still holding onto it, but that wasn't important. He had to keep running.
One of his dark paws slammed down into a shallow spot of dirt and dust swooshed up into his eyes. Tsotsi coughed dryly and snorted dust from his nose. He shook his head left and right to free his face from the dirt, choking all the while. His eyes were squinting, tears blurring his vision. With a sickening shriek of surprise, Tsotsi lost his footing and tumbled face-first into the ground. A few somersaults later, Tsotsi lay motionless on his stomach in the dirt. He clenched his teeth, anger and frustration building up inside him at his failed plan.
"SUNUVA--" he cried. But he stopped himself immediately.
Oops.

"HEY-"
What was he doing? That lying little-
She watched, feeling anger grow. He could run. Fine. That coward. She didn't care, who would care? That hyena was lost. He was probably insane, judging by those grins and crap. For all she knew he probably could be mute, and was just playing it safe so she would guess wrong. Seriti hated being wrong. It was one of things no one could annoy her with. If she was wrong, all heck would break loose. Especially if she didn't get HER way.
Growling, her tail lashed back in fourth. She watched as he climbed a few fast paces away from her. Then-
Clouds of dirt blew around him. She smirked evilly, deciding this was her time to prance over to him and kick him into speaking. Standing him, she started her way over to him, an angry-like smile growing on her face. Though-
She stopped dead in her tracks.
"AH HA!" Seriti yelled. He spoke, yes. He spoke. She got her way, and yet... she wasn't done with him. He was going to learn that she didn't play games very much. And when she did, it ended up in others getting hurt. Hopping along joyfully, she stopped right before him, grinning. "I KNEW you could speak!" There was sudden excitement in her voice, mixed with malice.
"So how does it feel to have a Heron feather jammed down your throat?" She asked innocently, whisking her eye lashes back in fourth, like a little princess. She was a princess. A bloody, selfish princess. Seriti lowered herself, sitting, staring. This was truly a sight. Him. On the ground. Her. Sitting over him, a pretty grin spreading across her maw.
"Ha ha." She chuckled.

So, his plan failed. That was okay.
So, he broke the promise he made to himself. That was okay, too.
But the pup had gotten her way and now she was sitting so close to him...
Grinning, taunting, mocking his failure.
That...was not okay.
Eyes snapping open, cleared of all dirt and dust, he stared at the ground beneath him. Red eyes glowing, he flicked his gaze up at her, not moving his body. The white, bloodied feather lay just beneath his chin, seemingly untouched by any dust. Somehow, he was relieved. But this girl...This hyena pup girl...
Who did she think she was?
Black lips slowly curling to reveal sharp fangs, Tsotsi glowered at her. He flexed his paws and dug his claws deep into the dirt beneath him. Then he launched himself from the ground and stood, towering over her small, sitting body. His body cast a dark shadow over her and his head blocked out the sun, causing a strange, glowing, outline of light to cling to his body. He continued to stare at her, baring his teeth. He was just inches away from her. He bent his face down towards her, angry breath puffing slowly against her nose.
"Thought that was funny, didja, girly?" he asked darkly.

She wasn't afraid of him, and just to show her bravery, she raised an eyebrow in amusement. Who did he think he was? Seriti just watched him as her light blue eyes blinked. Har. Har. Har.
Now that he had snapped, she'd just keep on torturing him. She wasn't afraid if he ended up attacking her. After all, she was known for her prissy attitude. Taking a big huff of air the hyena pup controlled the rising anger that was threatening to spill from her. She'd show him. Oh, she'd show him. He was just another one in the crowd, and she- oh she was outside the crowd. Well, at least she thought she was.
"Yes, I thought it was very funny, emo-face."
You'd think Seriti would really mind her tongue. Really, she could care less. The only two animals she wouldn't bad mouth were her parents. It was just a matter of where she got her trashy mouth from. Certainly not from her parents, or from a friend (if she had one).
A smile was on her face as she wagged her tail and tilted her head to the side.

Okay...
WHAT?!
Tsotsi sneered viciously at the pup and his eyes seemed to glow with emotion. How DARE she call him names? And THAT name? She had no idea what he had been through or what his life was like, yet she judged him so freely. It was ridiculous. Tsotsi was NOT going to take crap from her or from ANYone. She may have been young, but there were such things as manners.
With that in mind, he turned away from her, flicking his tail against her face harshly as he walked away. When he remembered the feather, he spun around to get it. To his shock, the feather was no longer there.
"Where...?" Tsotsi breathed, digging around at the dirt, completely forgetting the smirking hyena pup beside him.

Did he just ignore her?
What?
Seriti's eyes blazed furiously as he stuck his black. tail. in. her. FACE. She was tempted to bite it off, that- that- she tore her gaze away from him, temper climbing it's heights fearfully. He didn't, oh no he didn't. If she could comprehend what was happening, the little pup might have just run off in boredom, but she was having a hard time. Why? Fury was covering her face completely, and if she hadn't dug her claws into the ground, she might have broken her teeth.
She shook as she tried controlling enough of herself to utter at least something. "You should face someone, instead looking for a stupid feather!" A feather. A feather. Was that thing so important that he should totally forget about her? Surely not! After all, she wasn't going to be ignored by so low-life, nobody hyena.
Her eyes suddenly landed on the bloody heron feather. "Olala~" She called and picked herself up, another plan forming in her thoughts while she floated over to the feather and pick it up, clenching it hard between her teeth.
This would surely catch his attention.

At the strange word emitted from the hyena pup behind him, Tsotsi turned around. Red eyes locked with blue. Then Tsotsi's eyes shifted to the bloodied heron feather in the pup's mouth.
His feather...
A strange light seemed to fill Tsotsi's eyes and he bared his teeth, head sinking lowly, black and white hair rising on his back. He flicked his tail threateningly. He couldn't believe he was getting so worked up over a feather; over a PUP. But...That feather was his. He wouldn't let some spoiled brat hyena pup take that from him when she so obviously had many, many things Tsotsi didn't have. From her attitude, he was sure of that.
"Give. That. Back." Tsotsi growled through clenched teeth.
