Bellum Cybertronia
Winds of Change

WARNING!! Severe Reading Ahead!

Why "Bellum Cybertronia"?

Because from my limited understanding of latin (I looked it up, I don't speak it) Bellum Cybertrona means "Cybertonian War". "Pax Cybertronia" a play on "Pax Romana" is a popular term meaning "Cybertronian Peace" usually used to refer to the era after G1 but before Beast Wars. Since this is also a period between wars, I liked the similar feel of the names.

Also a major theme, as you'll find out, is the right of an individual to think for themselves. Bellum has a kind of brain-feel too it, so it works on that level as well... though, admittedly a little less concretely.

Who This RP Is For::
  • Players who've grown up as a fan of any incarnation of the beloved transforming robots. Even though it's primarily G1, the setting is entirely new, and done so in a way to hopefully be able to include elements of all established continuities....
  • Players who are fans of any giant robots or battle/war RP in general.
  • Players who formulate theories on how events might have gone with a different character involved, and follow that train of thought through to the end.
  • Open minded literate-adv. literate RPers willing to help other RPers improve and contribute meaningfully to the community.
  • Open minded semi-lit RPers who are interested in improving while having fun playing a source they enjoy.
  • Intense thought-provoking Mary-Sue Free fan-fic writers who are looking for an outlet, or inspiration for their next story or character.
  • Creative and thoughtful players who have interesting ideas that they are willing to share.
  • Players who have played (or are playing) in Pandangel Projects before this one, and know the kind of quality RP that we provide.
  • Players who are fans of a character, not what the character has done. The type of player who looks at an inter-action and says "I understand that" not just "oh, that was cool!"

Who This RP Is NOT For::
  • Elitist RPers who would rather demand a novel out of other players rather than help them grow and find a comprimise.
  • Mary-Sue players, meaning: Self-insertions, Characters that can't function if they aren't connected heavily to another character, Characters that make canon characters obsolete or overshadowed, etc
  • Players who are unwilling to help other players, or contribute to the community of the RP. Especially if those players are then going to gripe about the RP not going in a way they'd like.
  • Obsessive and argumentative fans... if you think a character belongs to you, and it will upset you to see them played by or playing with someone else... you may want to pass this RP up rather than argue with our crew about your rights over a character.
  • The different kind of obsessive argumentative fans who refuse to accept any but their preferred incarnation of Transformers. They're all transforming robots, people... don't get pissy because likes the Unicron Trilogy or Robots in Disguise or the new Animated...
  • People who are unreasonably opposed to the Source Content, Crossovers of the content in general, or Pandangel Projects/Crew.

Our Goals As An RP::
  • To create a deep and expanded plotline based on but not limited by the source content. This is going to be a whole new setting, your Transformer isn't bogged down by any particular history or pre-established criteria. As with all Pandangel RPs it's more important that you're interested in your character and the RP than possess an encyclopedic knowledge of the source material.
  • To provide this deep and expanded plotline while keeping the fun aspect of the source material, and not demand that any player be asked to take things too seriously.
  • To use thought and discussion and theories to build upon the established universe without being limited to it. Playing characters from the inside, rather than the outside... asking why and/or how a character does something, instead of just limiting ourselves to what we've seen them do.
  • To allow people to have fun playing as their favorite transforming robot.
  • To use our powers to destroy the evil forces of the Decepticons... alternatively... to use our powers to turn the Autobots into slag...
  • To develop an environment that will be both a fun RP as well as a place to grow as an RPer. This should really be the goal of any RP. We really want the best players we can have, who are willing to help other players become as good as them.
  • And, as always... to grow as a Optimal environment that shares many fond memories and delicious cake. Cake is not a lie!

Rules::
User Image

  1. This is what we at Pandangel RP like to call the "Don't Be A Douche-hat" rule. This is all the stuff that really really shouldn't have to be stated. Every RP on Gaia has these rules. Don't godmode, don't metagame, don't harass players, don't violate TOS, keep your posts clean of mature content... basically don't be a douche-hat. If you feel that somebody else is godmoding or harassing you or whatever, let a Crew know about it via PM with the page number it occurred on and the user who did it. Special Note: (as a site-mod, Alex asks that I double-emphasize this) If I think you're doing something in my RP that's violating TOS then you'll be out of here faster than Blur on robo-meth.

  2. Read everything on the first page relevant to the RP before applying for the roleplay. Yes it's a lot to read, but this is a LITERATE roleplay, and if you can't even read this much information, you will not do well in Pandangel Roleplays. Things go quickly, plots change in single scenes, and we do not want to recap anyone just because they don't feel like reading 2-3 pages.

  3. Citizens of the Federation must not interfere with the development of pre-warp civilizations. But you should poke in and introduce yourself on our OOC thread before applying a character. And definitely before posting a character. This is the Prime Directive.

  4. Do not roleplay on the OOC thread!! Unless it's silly fun OOC play, but nothing plot affecting.

  5. Only Mirage can go invisible and only Soundwave can read minds. But if you were to read my mind, you would know that there are other things invisible hidden throughout the first page...

  6. You must apply characters using the forms in the next post. We do not accept beggars for roles ("Can I be___plz!", etc). Begging gives one warning. Two warnings puts you on blacklist from participating. And yes, you must have a profile for your created character.

  7. Source Character Limit at this time is 10, Monk's favorite number. There are so many canon characters that there should be more than enough to go around. For createds: You may create as many as you like, but make sure you use them! If you can't handle that many characters, just play what you can handle.
    • Special Rules Regarding Character Limit
    • Combiner Team: Any one player may only play 1 piece of a combiner robot. This means if you're Mixmaster, you can't be Bonecrusher. If you're Onslaught, you can't be Swindle, etc. The combined form is played by all of the players for the individual parts (see FAQ for details).
    • Cybertron/Destron: If you have more than 5 characters on one side or the other, you must take a character from the other side before you can have any more on that side. This is just to keep things balanced.

  8. An Alchemist can not transmute a resulting product consisting of more matter than sacrificed to make the resulting product. The subject line of an application should be "Full Metal". Failure to make note of it may result in your application being ignored. This is the law of Equivalent Exchange.

  9. If for some reason you cannot or are unwilling to continue a scene within a span of 3 days at most (if you must take a leave of absence, or will not have internet access for a while, or just have horrendous writer's block), please notify one of the staff via PM or posting here and one of the following will occur:
    a. Your character will be skipped for the turn, or at your advance request removed from the scene entirely.
    b. Your character will be temp-posted by a Crew of your choosing until you are able to resume the role.
If you do not provide notice and your absence reaches more than two weeks, we will assume you quit the roleplay and the character will be handed to the next acceptable application or be removed from play in the case of created characters.

  10. Also, one of our goals is to encourage players to play a character from the inside, not the out. That means think about why a character has done the actions we've seen them do before, and not what we've seen them do before. While I strive to remain true to source, if we're just playing the same events we saw in the comics or cartoons... that'd get pretty boring. So really try to get inside a character so that they will be able to grow and adapt with the game as it goes. I say this as a rule because I also don't want people to b***h to me if through the course of RP our Bumblebee punches Jazz in the optic over a femme-bot... or the matrix of leadership ends up in the hands of Grimlock for a period... or Arcee falls for Megatron and joins the dark side... or any other wild thing that might happen in the course of RP.

  11. Special Rule Regarding Flight. I realize that in various series there are Transformers shown with the ability of flight in or out of robot mode regardless of what their alt-mode is. For this RP, no Transformer will have unassisted flight unless their alt-mode so enables them. And even then, only while in their alt-mode. You may, however, have equipment that enables flight on a character that would otherwise be unable to fly.

FAQ (Or rather Questions I want to answer pre-emptively)

Q.Why are some characters listed on sides when they're working for the other side?
A.Keep in mind that this is before the 3rd Civil War. Not all people who side with Megatron were originally Destron for this continuity. It was felt by us that it gave the continuity an interesting spin.

Q.What do I do about a character if the name is already taken for another character?
A.It depends. If the character is essentially the same character in both continuities (ie Starscream) you might want to leave well enough alone. If the characters are vastly different in two or more continuities (ie Scorponok) you may rename the version you wish to play and still apply with the canon character application.

Q.So what do I do for my Altmode if this is exclusively a Cybertron-based RP
A.You have liberty to design the new Altmode as you see fit, or use a variation of the Altmodes characters have displayed in different continuities. So long as it is similar (in function at least) to their established Altmodes. For example: Starscream shouldn't suddenly be a tank, Optimus Prime would be a very odd helicopter, etc.

Q.So what's the deal on Combined Form posting?
A.When (for example) the Constructicons combine to form Devestator, each of the players will continue to post in their order. If Mixmaster's player was first in post order, he will go first, then the next constructicon, then the next, and so on. However, they now wait for other responses before moving on. For example: when they were 6 robots, they might have all had their turn before Omega Supreme... but as Devestator, each of their posts counts as "Devestator's Post" and afterwards is Omega Supreme's post.

Since I might be over-complicating that in my explaination, allow me to demonstrate an example:

Prior to combining to Devestator. The Scene's Post Order:
Mixmaster > Bonecrusher > Scrapper > Hook > Long Haul > Scavenger > Omega Supreme > Ulta Magnus > Mixmaster (new turn)

After combining to form Devestator. The Scene's Post Order:
Devestator (Mixmaster's player) > Omega Supreme > Ultra Magnus > Devestator (Bonecrusher's player) > Omega Supereme > Ultra Magnus > Devestator (Scrapper's player) ... so on, so forth

Hopefully that makes more sense now. sweatdrop It was done to simulate the fact that combined robots (Excluding Piranacon and Predaking) are not of a single mind, but of the several competing minds of the initial parts.

Q.What's the deal with the rules that seem like they're just screwing around?
A.Word of advice, don't ask me this question.

Alright, so if you've lasted this long and this sounds like an RP you'd like to be a part of, hopefully you're still interested enough to read through the rest of this. This discussion/recruitment thread is for just that... discussing and recruiting before (and after) we begin roleplay. We want input and theories that can be developed into plots for the RP. As all sources in this roleplay are finished series, we can build upon the canonical histories without fear of disproven theories by later releases of manga issues. Feel free to be as wild and creative (within reason) when tossing out your plans!

As with all Pandangel Projects, we run in Story-Arcs... this RP will begin with the first Story Arc, and the events that unfold will help develop the second Story Arc and that will develop into the Third Arc, etc. Meaning (potentially) you, our players, are just as responsible for helping forge plotlines and events as our hosts are. Unlike some other RP Hosts... you know who you are... we don't make very many demands on the way events unfold.

The Unofficial Rules! More advice than actual rules.
There are certain things that we're looking for in players. One such thing is villain-players that are capable of both working with the crew to guide storylines as well as plotting things on their own. Shockwave coming up with his own experiments to get himself into trouble. Yet, at the same time, I will need players to be willing to help set certain plots in motion.

Secondly, and probably even more importantly, we'll be looking for teams that actually work together. So make sure you can get along with the other players on your team (this is more important OOC than IC) before your character signs up for a team.

Thank you, hopefully I haven't scared you off or bored you. sweatdrop If I haven't, here's what you have to look forward to:

Story:

User ImageTransformers. A race of robots that flourished long before the Earth was cool enough to even support the most basic forms of life. They are not artificial life. They are not programmed by any knowable hand. They are alive. They feel, and learn and experience as any living creature would identify other life. But they have one evolutionary advantage... the ability to change their form...

Records of the first Cybertron Civil War are lost to antiquety, though it is commonly accepted that this war involved the driving out of an alien force. Modern mythology states that prior to this war there were no robots on Cybertron designed for war. However, evidence of this war occuring is almost non-existant and many believe the war in itself is merely a myth from the Covenant of Primus...

User ImageNevertheless, the last great war was still identified as the Second Cybertron War. Millions of years before present, when the warlike Destrons tried to take control over the more numerous Cybertrons. The war ended with the awakening of the power of the Matrix by Prima, the first Matrix holder. The power of the Matrix renderred the planet into the state it exists today...

Cybertron is now a world split in two. Ever since the Second Cybertron War, the civilizations of the Cybertrons have existed on the northern hemisphere, while the Destron Clans have inhabited the southern hemisphere. A great artificial canyon seperates the two hemispheres.

Upon seeing the devestation unleashed by the Matrix, Prima passed the Matrix to the bot who would become known as Nova Prime, the second Matrix holder. Prima exiled himself to the unexplored depths of the planet Cybertron and has not been heard from since...

User ImageEventually, Nova Prime, too, passed the Matrix of Leadership to the Council's chosen. Sentinel Prime. Viewed by many to be the greatest warrior Cybertron has ever known...

While the Destron Clans have been warring with one another for millenia, the Cybertrons have formed a great society of enormous continent spanning cities. From Iacon, the Cybertron Council rules over the northern hemisphere. Commanding the Military, the Science Administrations, the Cybertronian Security Mainfraim, even the illustrious Cybertronian Commerce Coalition. Since the time of the Second Cybertronian War, they have maintained peace, they have maintained order.

But all is not as well as it seems. Those Cybertrons deemed too warlike or aggressive are either forced into military service or cast into the Destron wastes to fend for themselves. Criminals are punished swiftly through reprogamming and reassignment.

User ImageOmega Sentinals patrol the borders and "protect" the cities of the Cybertrons while simultaneously keeping the threat of "Mass Justice" looming over the heads of the population. Crystal City... destroyed for voicing against the Council... is now just a wasteland. A monument to the efficiency of the Omega Sentinels under the command of Omega Supreme.

Disobediance. Rebellion of any kind... is not tolerated...

User ImageA movement has begun, protesting the dystopia that their ancestors built. The Autonomous Robot (or "Autobot") movement preaches a return to a time when a 'bot was able to think for himself. They meet in secret, and hear the words of the Autobot sage, Alpha Trion. They are considerred enemies of the Council, and therefore enemies of Cybertron...

Orion Pax and his best friend Dion have been working the docks in Iacon almost since they were Protoforms. He knows that the world is safe, just the way it is. Cybertrons, as he understands it, are happy. He's never had any reason to believe otherwise. And he certainly can't imagine fighting to change it...

User ImageMeanwhile, the Cybertron cities draw so much Energon from the world that the Destron clans must strive even harder to find it. The fighting between clans intensifies, as do attacks attempting to bridge the canyon by one clan or another seeking to take what they can from the Cybertrons. There is no trust between the clans, and rarely do they meet. There are only three real cities in the southern hemisphere. Tarn, the home of the Constructicon Clan. Vos, the fortress of the Combaticon Clan. And Kaon, the only neutral ground in all Destron Territory. The other clans are primarily nomadic, moving where there is Energon and fighting for it when rivals come. Alleigances are made and broken on a basis of necessity to acquire resources or defeat an enemy. No one has united the clans in three million years.

Among the clans, the weakest is considdered the Decepticon Clan. They rely on their transformations as a means of escape, or camoflage rather than a means of conquest. To other clans they are considerred a neusance more than a threat. Never has a warrior of truly fierce power risen amongst them...

Characters by group::

  • Characters with names in italics are non-canon characters created for this RP.
  • Characters with names in violet are characters we need very very soon.
  • Characters with names in orange are roles that will be needed soon, but not as soon as violet names.
  • Characters with names in bold are vital and will require the most impressive and knowledgable of applications.
  • Characters with names in green are members of the "Autobot" movement. In a case where the character is not yet played, an applicant may elect to remove them from that group.
  • Groups identified in red are Cybertron groups, while those identified in purple are Destron clans. Keep in mind that at this stage of the story some characters may be alligned differently then they are classicly known.

NOTE:: Hopefully you'll understand that this list will not be a complete list of all characters available from both sets of canon, as that list would probably contain damn near 1000 characters... I'll list anybody taken, and as many of the more popular names as I can think of. But anybody from any continuity of Transformers is available for play if you talk it through with me and come up with a way to fit them in.

NOTE 2:: Characters that do not have players are not listed under any factions or organizations in most cases. That's because I want the player to decide where they want their character to fall. If a character is listed as a member of a group but not played... an applicant may ask to have them moved if they prefer. In most cases that's fine... in some cases, however, the hosts will request the character remain as listed.

User ImageCanon Character Application::

Anybody unfamiliar with Pandangel RPs... this is our basic "Who-Why-What-How" application. Who is it that you want to play? Why do you want to play them specifically? What do you know about the character? How will you intend on playing them?

Explaination:

Character Name: (Obviously applications for "The one that turns into the truck?" aren't going to be approved. The first thing I check for is to make sure you actually know the character's name)

Why Them: (Tell us what about this character makes you want to play them with us? Why are you driven to this specific character? Why should we choose you to play them over any/all other applications for the character?)

Background: (Tell us everything you know about the character. I don't want to see a copy of the Wikipedia article, either, and I will check. Tell me everything you think is relevant to their character as you want to play them. Hopefully this shouldn't take more than 2 or 3 paragraphs... don't feel pressured to write me a novel about them.)

RP Challenge: (you must respond to at least 2 of the RP challenge posts that will be listed in Post 6 if this is your first character. This is because that we feel a response helps us gauge better how you play than a solo-post or a sample of something you've posted previously. After you are approved for your first character, you only need to show one RP challenge for each additional character)

SPECIAL NOTE:: Extra Freedom! What's that mean? Well, because this is a completely new universe you have a bit more breathing room in the application of a character. Say you really like the way Ironhide was portrayed in the movie and you want to mix some of those aspects of Ironhide into the classic Ironhide. Go for it. Say you don't think there are enough female Transformers and you want to apply a feminine incarnation of Skywarp. Sell me on it, and you're good as gold. 3nodding

Here Is The Code For You::

Why Them:
Background:
RP Challenge:

Here Is An Example Of A Completed Form::

Example of an Acceptable App
User ImageCharacter Name:
Prowl
Why Them:
Admittedly, my a lot of times my absolute favorite guy can end up coming from something as simple as nobody else seems to have them as their favorite guy. Especially as a kid. So I was already disinclined to have Grimlock or Bumblebee be my favorite Transformer, and as much as I love Optimus, he's too central and explored. There's no mystery to him.

Besides, everybody loves Optimus Prime... and like I said I like to give a little love to the guys lots of people forget. Prowl needs his fans.

He was also one of the first actual Transformer toys that I had. Actual in that I'm not counting Bumblebee or Cliffjumper or Slugfest or any of the other cassettes. He might not have been the actual first, but I have early memories of my transforming police car. So there's a nostalgic fondness mixed in there as well.

But most importantly, like a lot of my favorites, Prowl is the smart one. He's not invent-stuff smart like Wheeljack, sure. But he's figure stuff out smart. Combined with his weakness, he's very much a robotic combination of Batman and Adrian Monk. I think there's a lot of fun that can be had with his character.
Background:
It's accepted that Prowl was from a city on Cybertron that was destroyed in most continuities by the Decepticons. In this continuity, this city was destroyed by his own government. It is also almost universal that Prowl is one of the first and most prominent Autobots. This is also true in this continuity. I don't believe that he would have been as driven to action without a catalyst.

Prowl is a high ranking member of Cybertron Security with several commendations and a record number of arrests attributed to him. He's always liked being recognized for his work, but is very bad at making speaches. Combined with his stern and unyielding moral code and determination to keep things "by the book" Prowl is not the most popular member of C-Sec, but his results can't be argued with.

After the destruction of Praxus, the Crystal City, Prowl felt himself drawn to the subversive Autobot movement. Using his position within the agency, he provides information to the Autobot movement they would otherwise have no access to. He also formulates strategies for the group, and accomodates the escape of Autobot prisoners by providing the necessary information to the right members of the movement. However, he can only rationalize doing this as much as it doesn't interfere with the greater portion of his job. He won't accomodate the release of individuals who have committed crimes worthy of the punishment.

One obsession has plagued Prowl for most of his carreer and left him the butt end of more than a few jokes around the old oil-drum. A case from when he was a rookie has led him into a series of investigations of assassinations he believes the work of a single individual known as "The Bee". As of yet he has no concrete evidence.

In combat Prowl's greatest weapon is his mind. He is capable of formulating strategies and contingencies faster than almost any other Transformer on Cybertron. This means even under the most heated of circumstances, Prowl has a back-up plan ready and the skill to react to the changing tide of battle. Because of his position in C-Sec he prefers to use non-lethal Acid Rounds (the equivilant of rubber bullets to Transformers) which cause debilitating pain but no serious or fatal damage. However, his weapon can be loaded with lethal plasma rounds as well. His weakness in battle is that he has no outstanding strengths, his body isn't as heavily armed as some more combat efficient Transformers. Also, his strategies rely on those around him following his orders, and since he isn't necessarily popular this doesn't happen as often as he'd obviously like. So while he might be able to get himself out of battle with no problems, if others don't follow his lead, he may take more losses than he should have.

Socially Prowl's strength is his weakness. Because of his dedication to logic and rationality, he has difficulty expressing his emotions and even greater difficulty comprehending the emotions of others. Unrational or illogical things have been known to cause his systems to stall as he tries to put a rational spin on them. This displays itself as a series of twitches and a general discomfort from Prowl. Needless to say, this means he has very few real friends.
RP Challenge:
This is where I'd put responses to the challenges found on post 6 of this page. However, to save room I will not attempt to prove my ability to play to myself... o.o

User ImageCharacter Creation::

This application will be a little more in depth, because we'll want to have an idea what you're throwing at us before we let them play with the rest of the kids. Keep in mind that creativity is key and what we look for most. So be creative, be original, and have fun as you try to come up with all of this information.

The only seriously concrete rules about this are as follows:

  • Don't violate any established history. Meaning if something has been revealed in the RP, you can't undo it with your background. If you're not sure, talk to the crew.

  • Don't heavily include any other characters in your history without the permission of the player of that character. If your character has always been jealous of Shockwave's success... that's probably fine. If Shockwave is supposed to have made your character... you might want to talk to Shockwave's player first.

Adopt-a-Transformer ... something to consider before making an entirely new character. If you take a moment and scower the depths of Teletraan-I or Seibertron.com you might find a background or unused character that fits your purposes. You can still use the created character profile or tweak things about them if you wanted to do so.

Just think about it... hundreds of Transformers many people haven't even heard of are going unplayed, as we speak. For just paragraphs a week you can keep these these Transformers from the brink of non-existance.

Explanation::

Name: (It would be extremely discrediting if you didn't know what your own created character was called... also tell us what, if anything, they go by in addition to their given name.)

Alt-Mode: (What do they Transform into? Seeing as Transform is kinda in the name and all, they really should have an alt-mode...)

Alignment: (What organization or clan are they with?)

Powers or Abilities: (Many Transformers have a special power or ability that seperates them from the rest of the group. Hound can make illusions, Mirage can go invisible, Soundwave can read minds, etc. Just forwarning... your guy can't read minds.)

Weaknesses: (Every Transformer (with the exception of Megatron) has something that counts as a weakness. This can be a psychological weakness like Prowl's or a physical one like Razorclaw's, it's up to you, but they have to have one. They aren't perfect...)

Physical Description/Picture: (Give us an idea what they look like via picture or description.)

Background: (Who are they? Where do they come from? Why are they good or evil? Give me a couple paragraphs letting me know a bit about them.)

RP Challenge: (An RP challenge response goes here. Look down one post from this one to see what you should respond to)

Hers Is An Example Of A Completed Form::

Example of an Acceptable App
Name:
Sunder
Alt-Mode:
Armored Transport Vehicle
Alignment:
Destron - Combaticon Clan
Powers or Abilities:
A master of the Cybertronian martial art Metallikato and an expert at hand-to-hand fighting. Sunder can tap energy directly from his spark and release it as a potent short-range energy pulse capable of disabling the systems of an enemy as well as posessing signifigant concussive force. He calls this ability "Spark Shot".

He is also quite swift for his bulky stature in Robot mode.

In his alternate form he is capable of size-alteration so that several of his fellow Combaticons can ride within him for transport.
Weaknesses:
Sunder lacks signifigant on-body weaponry in either robot or transport modes. This requires him to get in close to attack his opponents so that even though his body is signfigantly armored in both forms he will have taken a good deal of punishment from a skilled enemy long before getting close enough to attack. The lack of any long-range attacks or flight capabilities also render him extremely vulnerable to aerial fighters.

Finally, over use of his Spark-Shot drains his systems signifigantly and more than three or four uses in a row can cause him to slip into stasis lock.
Physical Description/Picture:
User Image User Image
(( Just do me a favor and pretend they're in the same color spectrum, okay? sweatdrop ))
Background:
Like all Combaticons, Sunder had to fight for his status amongst the clan. However, Sunder also had an additional problems facing him including his lack of on-body weaponry which many consider a standard of the Combaticon clan. Sunder will tell you that it isn't a weakness as much as an aesthetic choice. He believes that combat is an art, and finds dismantling or destroying an enemy from a distant to be bland and flavorless. It is Sunder's preference to get close and feel the metal being ripped from his enemy's body with his bare hands.

Most difficult of obstacles to overcome, however, was obviously that Sunder was not even protoformed as a Destron. Originally of Cybertron design, he was deemed too violent for Cybertron society and first drafted into the military where he was deemed too insubordinate for service. Like many before him, he then found himself banished to the Destron territories to fend for himself.

Much like a new inmate in prison, Sunder quickly learned that for even the most ferocious of warriors to survive in the Destron Territories he would have to side with one of the Clans. Given his predisposition for violence and warfare, the Combaticons seemed like the most obvious choice.

He currently has no high ranking status within the clan despite his hundreds of raids worth of loyal service. This is more a disappointment than a problem for him, however. It is possible that he would be assigned different tasks in a raid if he were higher in status within the clan, and Sunder thoroughly enjoys his role. During a raid, several of his fellow Combaticons will crowd inside his transport mode and he will race at full speed into an enemy enbankment where he will unload his cargo and transform to enjoy combat as well. It is a strategy that requires a lot of risk, but he gets to see a lot of action and he has no complaints at the moment...
RP Challenge:
This is where responses to the challenges you'll find in the next post would go. However, to save room, I'm going to refrain from proving myself to... myself...

User ImageThe RP Challenges::

Anyways... So what is an RP Challenge, you ask?

Go ahead. Ask. It makes me feel better to answer, that way.

Alright, before I explain it, let me clarify some of the things the RP Challenge is NOT... since there still seems to be some confusion on this matter:

It is not:
  • asking you to submit a solo post of any kind.
  • asking you to submit a post of similar nature to the challenge posts below.
  • asking you to resubmit that post rewritten using your character. gonk

Okay so now we know what it isn't, right? Let's move on to what it is. Well, you know how most RPs ask you to submit a sample post before you join? Often they'll ask you to write out a solo post... or show a sample of your writing. Well, we found that mathod to be a poor means of judging one's skill as an RPer.

Why is that? Well, think about it. RP skill comes from being able to read, interpret, and respond in detail to something posted by somebody else. Often times, however, even the best RPers will feel uncomfortable having to intro themselves to a scene or especially to write something stand-alone. Likewise, the greatest writers in the world aren't necessarily the best RPers.

So, we developped the RP challenges. 6 posts, you choose at least 2 the first time you apply a character, and respond to them with the character you are applying. Responses should be at least a paragraph or two, but you're probably pushing it if you hit like five paragraphs. You don't need to feel pressured to write a novel.

The challenges are divided into the 3 primary categories of RP. Action, Social and Romance. Action is the fights, Social is the common interaction, and Romance is well... the gooshy stuff. I don't care what anybody says, every RP needs at least some amount of all three of these things to survive. You pick at least two that you feel show off your best attributes as a player. You may respond to more if you feel like it.

The Challenges are intended to be written in such a way that the applicant could be responding to anybody they desire. In some cases it's more specific than others, pin-pointing at least a set of powers. But the applicant can elect to change the genders or descriptions of the post they are responding to. As long as the response is still in the spirit of the challenge.

So in closing this is what you do when submitting a character application. Pick two of the posts down there and respond to them as you would in an RP. You pretend those are posts in the RP and you are responding to them. Sorry to be so repetative about this, but it kinda surprises me how many times I get questions about how it's supposed to work... sweatdrop

So here they are. The Challenges:

Challenge Post 1: Action
The last shot had damaged his left optic, leaving his vision filled with ripples and static. Instead of a steady stream of images, now he was left with flashes. Like trying to follow motion through a strobe light. No, he thought, better just to shut it off. With a flicker and a click his optic deluminated. Better to fight blind than try to make sense of the flashes. This fight wasn't over yet, he had every intention of making sure he gave at least as good as he got...

Another click, another system powering up. His audio sensors powered up to peak efficiency. This was something he'd never tried in an actual combat scenario, and even if it worked he doubted he would be still in as good a fighting shape as he had been a moment ago. He was a C-Sec agent not a metallikato ninja. But anything beat blatantly surrendering.

His processors booted up the spacial data on their surroundings. If nothing else he'd gotten a good feel for the place before the last shot knocked out his vision. Without a moment's hesitation he bolted towards the wall, firing two shots behind him where he'd last known his enemy to be. When he was up against the wall he listened for any movement, any dodging of the shots he'd fired. They'd been literally fired blind, he'd never anticipated for them to hit, but if there was a reaction... maybe he could anticipate where to fire next.

Raising his gun once more, he activated his working optic just to verify what he was aiming at and took another shot...

This is an action post you'd be responding to... but you knew that because it already said so. In every battle there's going to be somebody winning and somebody losing... in this battle, you can take it into assumption that you're the one winning. Of course it's left open to your interpretation how much damage your own Transformer has suffered as well.

I also tossed in a little jab at my favorite Prowl compared to the current Prowl. But you don't have to respond as if it were Prowl. Could be Blue Streak, Ironhide, any member of C-Sec. You could be a Destron infiltrator or a Cybertron suspect on the run. However the post works for you.

Challenge Post 2: Social
Dozens of protoforms and bots gathered outside the Iacon cineplex awaiting his arrival and he was not about to disappoint. It was the release of his biggest movie to date... Wrath of the Organics was, without a doubt, the most anticipated film of the year. But if he was only in one movie a year, then that film was destined to be that year's most anticipated. This season marked a special event, however. The first time he and his brother had ever been in competing movies in the same season. He was looking forward to seeing how that played out.

Bots obviously loved going to a cineplex to see the tough guy rush into a bunker with guns blazing, sure. But you could guarantee far more optics on the holoprojection with the handsome leading bot. And there wasn't an actor in all of Cybertron with more talent or looks than him...

His golden form came careening almost maniacally through the crowd, rolling against the curb so as to push himself up on two wheels. When he came near a parked transport he rolled into it and let himself use the angle and his momentum to enter a rolling jump from his position into the air. He landed, still in vehicle mode, and jack-knifed like a power slide only narrowly missing hitting the rest of his fans gathered behind the line. Transformation went slow. Not because there was anything wrong with him, just because he wanted to complete the show... add what he could to the suspense until he smirked, visor down over his optics, and presented himself to his adoring public, "Yes," he confirmed, "I'm here."

Casually and with an ever present grin, he moved towards the access, stopping only occasionally to sign an autograph. As he passed he would call out random phrases with a gleeful chuckle, "Yes, it's going to be spectacular..." or "No spoilers here, I'm afraid..." or "I think I saw you at my last premiere, didn't I?" Somebody in the crowd would have said something that it could have been a response to. He tried to drown most of it all out. Their admiration mattered, not them...

There are many kinds of social posts. One somebody might see a lot in an RP is a fishing post... so I like to keep a fishing post as a challenge in all of my RPs. A "Fishing Post" is any post that isn't directed at any particular player or character but establishes a setting open for a variety of characters to be present. The desire is to illicit interaction with other players.

In essence, you toss out a post as bait and see who you get for a bite. It's pretty self-explainatory, actually, I probably didn't need to explain it as much as I did.

This post is pretty obviously Sunstreaker. As the previous one was Prowl. I normally like to keep my challenges as ambiguous as possible, so this was kind of cheating for me and I appologize. If one ignores the golden remark it could be any number of other characters, though.

Challenge Post 3: Romance
It had been a long time since he'd been alone with anybody like this, and he's been avoiding his companion for a long time now. But they'd finally confronted him. And here they were. They hadn't exchanged two words since the end of the movie, and shamefully the best his cerebral processor could come up with to say was, "Meh, it was a little over-rated." The charismatic bot of the year, he wasn't. But he never had been. That hadn't been what had kept them together ever... of that much he was sure.

Something was tearing apart his central processor, and he was pretty sure it might as well have been written across his armor plating. They'd been walking through the Iacon Gardens, nodding and making casual gestures of admiration at some of the fine displays of art that lined the walk ways like a manufactured forest. He felt safe here. He always had. They'd met here...

After a moment, when they were sufficiently lost he stopped and looked at his companion. The distrust was bleeding out of his optics like a coolant leak, "Was it you?" he finally broke down and asked, "Did you turn him in...?" Recently one of his friends, a member of the Autobot movement, had gone missing. Only a few other bots had actually known about his friend's involvement. One of them was his companion. The two of them had never gotten along... but he didn't want to believe they could have done something like this... still, the thought haunted him. And here he was... accusing the robot who shared his spark of sentancing his best friend to death...

Alright... as is customary, I must first appologize for how utterly crappy I am with romance posts. It's easily my weakest area when it comes to writing and rp. That, combined with how hard it is to really get into the heads of Transformers on the topic of love (not exactly a topic that's heavily coverred in most of the media) made this a little tough...

So sorry if it sucks. Equally sorry if it seems like it's cheating by being as much social as romantic interaction.

Romance posts are a lot like action posts in that there's always somebody in control of the scene and somebody reacting to the scene. Domant and submissive, winning and losing. Not to say that a relationship isn't inherently equal... but each interaction isn't. At least not for the sake of drama. Still... hard to say if this Bot's winning or losing this scene after dropping a bomb like that on his partner.

Challenge Post 4: Action
"I'll tell you a joke," he laughed, his voice echoing through the chamber they were in, "What does it sound like when a Cybertron explodes?" he asked, quickly responding with the so-called punchline, "You tell me."

Well can you blame him for wanting to add a little levity? If the whole thing was going to be this easy, he might as well have stayed home. After all, it wasn't like he was going to be awarded a lot of honor when he returned home with this story. Still, maybe there was a chance if he kept attacking there would be a chance that a few bigger guns might start pointing his way. Hell, that last shot had actually come pretty close to scathing him.... so maybe it was even still early to count this little fish out.

"This is the part where I'm supposed to say give up," he laughed as he transformed and shot forward at his oponent at speeds well over the speed of sound, only to return to robot form at the last moment and use the momentum to deliver a powerful kick towards his enemy's torso in the attmept to send him back into the wall he'd backed himself up against.

"I'm better armed," he reminded his enemy, "I'm more experienced in combat. My alt-mode is more useful and I can transform faster than you," he boased, "Face it. I'm better." He called out once again, "But I don't want you to give up," he confessed, "Not until we get to the punchline..."

Normally the challenges are set up so that 3 come from a male point of view and 3 come from a female point of view. In this case, I've decided the latter 3 shall be pointedly from Destron points of view. Of course if you need that challenge to have come from a particularly sadistic Cybertron, you may feel free to interpret it as such...

The first action post is designed to put the applicant in the position of the winner. The second is designed to put him on the losing side. It's just as important (sometimes more so) to know how a player responds to losing as it is to know how they win.

Note that that is the intention. It isn't there to see how you'd use your character to "turn it around" or "show your character always has a plan"... or any other kind of metagaming or godmoding out of it. In this case, just assume that the fight hasn't been going your way. That doesn't mean that you have to give up and surrender... or that this fight is over... just show me how you respond in these situations.

Challenge Post 5: Social
"... and I'm telling you that Piranacon is way stronger than Predaking! That's why the Predacons never try to take energon from the Seacons!" he counterred. Of course it was equally true that the Seacons never try to take energon from the Predacons. It was also just as likely that the vast distance between their territories, and the environments in which they were accustomed to doing battle had just as much to do with this evasion. Nevertheless, it was commonly accepted that Piranacon and Predaking were the two most powerful combiners in the Destron territories...

To most knowledge, they were the only two true Gestalt's. That is to say, the only two with a completely merged personality.

The safe boundries of Kaon were the only place a discussion like this could be held without it resulting in violence in all the Destron Territories. Violence, outside of the arena, was frowned upon here. If you were to break that singular law of Kaon, it reflected on your clan as much as it reflected on you. Bad reflection on your clan meant the locals didn't even have to punish you... sending you back home would be as much as a death sentance in most cases.

He couldn't speak for his companion, but he'd come here for the bazaar. Getting ahold of some Constructicon weapons would look good on him when he got back to his clan, he might even be rewarded with a drone or two if he presented them to the Chieftan. But that didn't mean this was the only way to trade his wares or spend his energon in a bustling place like this, "You going to bet on the games?" he inquired of the bot he'd been speaking with, "You think that Decepticon... uh... Megatron... is worth the money they're putting on him over Onslaught?"

Okay, this could be a fishing post, but it obviously isn't solely intended to be. In this case, it can be pretty safely assumed from the context that he's been having a conversation with somebody for at least a few posts.

That being said, however, there's nothing saying you would have to respond as that other transformer. They're in a crowded area and openly discussing things. Somebody could easily jump into their conversation. Sure it would be rude... but I don't recall a "politeness" protocol amongst the Decepticon Army, do you?

So while it would be most simple and clear to respond as the other Destron he's talking to (even if your not applying a Destron) it's certainly not your only option.

Challenge Post 6: Romance
Being certain things could guantee your success and survival in the often deadly Destron Territories. One thing you could be was powerful. Combiners were powerful, but it took ages of commeradary for a Transformer to develop that kind of kinship with others to develop into anything even remotely resembling a Gestalt. Besides, you had to share too much of yourself with the rest of the combined form's body... that wasn't really her style.

You could be smart, of course. The list of Destron who fell into that category was definitely short, if you asked her. She might consider herself one of them, but she'd never felt it was the strength she wanted to rely on. No, she'd much rather be the last and most deadly of the things you could be to survive. She wanted to be desirable.

That description fit her like shine on armor plating. Her fingers brushed against the tip of the face across from her, barely scratching at the metal enough to leave a mark. It was a signature she liked to leave on what belonged to her, "You do love me, don't you?" she asked, purple optics glistening and reflecting her companion back across to them, "You'll do it for me won't you? Kill him?"

Ugh... I'm sorry again. I'm so bad at doing romance posts.

Anyways, most likely you've figured out the pattern here. This romance challenge is designed so that it puts the applicant on the opposite end of the spectrum for their response. Before, the post was from the vulnerable position, putting the applicant in control...

This post, by it's nature, puts the applicant in the vulnerable position. It's not a great place to be for extended periods of time... but chances are you're going to end up there. Particularly if it's in your character to do so, right? Not every Transformer is smart enough to see through her little game, obviously. Though, of course, some of them are.

It's up to the applicant, obviously, if she's talking to a Cybertron or a Destron.

This also means that for a whole season solar-related energon gathering is severely depleted for a period of time.

In the Cybertron Megacities like Iacon special laws are implimented including a curfew for any non-authorized personell. In addition, all citizens must be transformed to their most energon-efficient mode unless authorized for energon expendature or responding to an emergency.

For the Destron, however, this is a time of celebration. During the time of the Nebula's passing, the Destron hold an event known as the Circus in Kaon. Gladiatorial matches are held non-stop with action far more intense than anything held year round, goods of a special calibur are sold that couldn't be found any other time of year, and Destron embrace the festivities to travel to the Peaceful zone of Kaon in record numbers. Every clan has their own criteria for selecting who is allowed to visit the circus... every Destron dreams of attending at least once in their Function-cycle...
