Today's society is changing, with more emphasis shifting toward, at least from what I've read, Eastern Europe and Asia. Most especially Asia. From the powerful Chinese economy, to the reason that this guild does not accept Japanese...Eastern languages get my vote for being included in a school setting.
As of currently, my (public) school offers:
Spanish French German Latin
What languages does/did your school offer? Should they offer others? If so, which and why?

My school offers:
Englsh (mother tongue, mandatory) French (2nd language, mandatory) Spanish Hebrew
What it doesn't offer but should offer, in my opinion:
German - because it's oen of those "big" languages... Russian - because there are a lot of Russians at my school Latin - because every English-speaking person can benefit from some Latin Japanese... because I need help with those goddamn kanji, lol rofl

My sister's elementary school was a ukranian-english immersion school (she was in regular english classes). Now she's in a school that has english, french and ukranian. The high school she's going into (the one I attended) has french immersion, but also teaches french and spanish for the english kids.
The university that I attend offers different language courses. Only problem is, although I want to know more than one language, none of those appeal to me. sweatdrop

My school offers: English, German (native lanuage), Frensh, Latin
I think we should replace Latin with Spanish, because I think Latin is useless for the most students and with the age of 13(when they have to choose weather they want to learn french or latin) they barly know wether they need it or not. If they really want to learn latin, they can take this subject a few years later. I really regrt taking Latin although there were other schools where I could have learned spanish.

In my opinion it's pretty dumb you can't study French in my school. There's many students who'd certainly choose it if it was possible. Instead my school offers Russian, which it not so common in Finnish high schools/junior highs [Wonder why? I mean, we are next door to Russia. confused ]. I don't complain about Russian, I just want to try French. sad
But, more Asian languages, definitely.

I believe that Chinese would be a good language to teach in schools. There are so many people who speak it, and so few who are learning it (comparatively)... Plus, it sounds fun.

I wish I could goto that school. sad But I'm happy as long as I can take Japanese at my present one. domokun
