Active volcanoes cover most of this black wasteland. A thick cloud of smoke comes from one of them, however, it's been like that for over one hundred years, and does not yet erupt. Blackened trees from the hardened magma provide little to no cover, while hiding in an active volcano isn't that much of a smart idea. Small abandoned caves only provide temporary hiding spots.
