User Image Micarreth Barrith had much to mull over. There was a bit of a upset in his House and he wanted absolutly nothing to do with it. The extended dissappearance of the 'heir' Quavvira had upset the elderly Matron. As a result, all was chaos in the household. Micarreth felt as if he would snap if yet another servant burst into his private chambers on the senile old hags orders to search the House again.

Honestly, if Quavvira was going to hide it would not be from the servants that she had been takeing advantage of or the Matron she was doing her damndest to suck up to. She was not in the House, and Micarreth was not going to be subject to another string of identical questions over whether he had seen her again.

Shaking his head, Micarreth let his eyes flicker up to the tavern sign before him. It was a small enough of a establishment. He felt secure he could get something more then watered down ale to drink. Now that Quavv was no longer around he did not have her rationing how much he took from the treasury anymore. Good bye hovering b***h, hello minor pleasures of life!

Watered down Ale, something that Rak'neer didn't exactly find appeasing, but it was more than he had had in such a long time, so he was not giving forth much in the area of complaining. He was sitting at a round old rugged looking and feeling table, with both his hands nestled around the mug. He could smell the water and ale radiating from it, and it was not that much ale. But when you only had a few coin, you only got a limited amount of luxery.

Sure he could have afforded a full mug of ale, but then he would have been left with very little to get him through the rest of the time, until he happened upon more money or objects to exchange for money. He didn't really have a house backing him completly so he knew he had to be most careful with what he did and where he went. He stuck pretty close to large cities to avoid danger from those around him, as most fighting was avoided in these areas.

He did have a place he hovered around outside the town, city, what ever you wanted to call it, but it had been a few days and it was sure to have been pillaged or destroyed by the creatures in the dark. It was a mistake to have stayed out drunk and not wanting to admit it. But now he had ot live with that decision. He had to start from scratch. Rebuild the little things he had, or go crawling back home where he was certain to be greeted with a few strikes from the matron, and many from the others. He would be lucky if he would survive the consequences of not returning home in a very timely manner. Not to mention not returning with anything he was sent out with.

So he was sitting here, alone, sipping on some the blandest liquid you could probably taste. Not so much ale, and the water was not even all that pure. You could taste the faintest traces of metal, rock, dirt, and debris. But it was a beverage, and it would get him through until it was time for another. But it was a a dissappointed and left him with nothing to do but release a dissappointed sigh. Not at the beverage but at his life. If he would have just done as he was told he would not be left in a such a mess. Thats for sure. So a sigh said it all.

The small dingy atmosphere suited Micarreth the moment he stepped inside. This was not a place he had visited before, though he began to feel that perhaps he would make it a habit to spend his time here. His lips had already formed a faint approving smile as he crossed the wooden planks towards the bar itself. He did feel a little out of sorts though. His crimson scarf, oh that he was becoming so vain of, was a definate flag in a dull tavern like this. Ah, Lloth screw it!

With a a gesture afflicted with both pride and vanity, Micarreth snapped the tail end of his scarf over his shoulder with one hand, while withdrawing a pair of gold coins from a pocket with hisother.

"I'll have something to drink. I don't care what it is, just the best that this will buy. If it is good enough I've plenty more coin to spend." Mica confidently informed the man behind the counter. After it was his coin was swept away a mug of something that smelled rather sweet was delivered. Micarreth tilted his head slightly as he picked up the mug and he took a seat at the bar with his back to it. Just because he felt a little bold here in a little no-name hole did not mean he should be completely careless! it was safer with his back to just the one man behind the counter then to an entier room.

Sitting as he was, it was easier for Micarreth to scan the crowd and gauge those that were within. Most seemed like your typical drow. Just passing the time. Lost in their own thoughts and not too interested in being bothered. Micarreth had to fight to keep from fidgeting on his seat. Current events had him on edge and just a touch excited.

Rak gulped down the remainder of his ale. The residue of the liquid was able to swirl around the mug, so Rak took one more sip, intending to make use of his very last cent. The little bit he had drank had not satisfied his stomach, and he wanted more. He fumbled around with the few coins he had left. If he got another mug now, he may have enough to do errands late, if not, he would just move on to finding away to come across some more money.

He got up and walked to the bar. He did not feel like yelling across the bar for another order. Chances were it would be wrong, and they would still make him pay, or they would just not hear him at all. There was an empty seat between himself and some other red clothed gentlemen of sorts, or as he seemed to have appeared. Rak payed him no mind. If he kept to himself, he should be okay, for now anyway. That was not to say he didn't know how to fight, or that he was not willing. He just preferred not to in a place such as thing. To much could go wrong. To many people, and some were bound to have the protection of a higher house than he.

"Ill have another!" He said slamming his mug on the counter. "Maybe you can add a bit more ale than water this time!"

"ah but can you afford more ale."

Rak didn't reply he just shook his head and motioned for the second round of the watered down ale. Once he had it in his hands, he looked down and plucked something from the liquid. Some small bug perhaps. Oh well, no harm no foul. Which was a stupid move. Some of the higher ups in his house would have told him to pour it out. Insects can disperse deadly toxins and make a drink less than appetizing and comforting. But thankfully he was not under their watchful eye right now, and he took a long swig from the mug.

His drink tasted as it smelled. Sweet and a little on the cheap side. Still, it was better then the water he'd been reduced to drinking just because the b***h queen had been on a power trip and decided to cut him off from just about every pleasure he could have possibly taken part in. Well! No more! Micarreth tipped his head back and greedily drained the cup of it's contents. He did not have to worry about any of that anymore! The coffers were open to him once more...now if only his standing was high enough to warrent a trip to a place better then this....welll... that woud change soon enough. He just had to be patcient. He couldn't wander around as if he'd already climbed the social ladder. That would ring suspicious to far too many people.

As Micarreth set his mug back down onto the bar one of the other patrons rose and crossed the floor to a seat near him. He overheard the exchange between the bar keep and the other man and clearly witnessed the flicking of the small object from the mug. Mica could not resist the opportunity to lift his lip in a open smirk. He lifted his hand, and with a flippant gesture motioned to his mug.

"Another one barkeep...and something better then that drider piss if you please. If you don't have anything better then don't waste my time."

Oh...what a delightful frown that got him. Mica was unconcerned that his uppity airs might get him something very unpleasent in his drink. The barkeep by now had to have gotten far worse then his attitude in here, and he was still in busniess now wasn't he?

"I take it you don't have enough coin to actually pay for a real drink do you?" He commented in a off hand way to the drow next to him. "Or are you one of those weak stomached faeries that can't handle a real drink?"

Drider piss? That was a good one, Rak decided he would need to remember that one. He started to drink from his mug again as he heard the other speak out once more, only this time in his direction. No it would be in bad taste to snap at the other right away, no need to stir the s**t with a stick. He just rolled his eyes and took another swallow, in which he heard himself in reference to a "fairy."

"A... fairy." Rak was staring towards the ceiling in frustration trying to piece together what it was that he should say in this situation. "Well sir, not all of us are given the blessing of financial bliss. Though I do suppose I would have it no other way. Those that are well off do tend to be a bit on the eccentric side, not to mention a complete and utter waste of moral... or ethics... or what ever have you."

He drank down the rest of his mug and then sent a devious glare towards the other. "I prefer to save my coin for things that really matter, ale is... clearly not a necessity in life. But I would be most willing to test your theory of calling me a... how did you put it? Fairy? I would bet I could handle anything -you- order for me."

Well that was a bit witty of him. He was proud of his comeback. He may just score a free drink out of it. That would just be the icing to cake he had created himself. Though it was probably very unwise to have done such a thing. Rak probably would not drink what was ordered, that would defiantly be unwise, but then again what did anyone have to gain from felling such a sucker in life?

The barkeep set down Mica's refilled mug, and just as before he swept away the coins he laid down immediatly. Micarreth was only slightly more interested in his new drink then the drow next to him, so as he spoke Micarreth took to inspecting his drink. This was relatively cleaner then the other drows. Perhaps a sign that the barkeep knew to keep customers with coin on them happy if he wished steady busniess. He'd probably start handing him more questionable drinks later if he got himself drunk enough not to take notice.

Micarreth dipped a finger into the ale and swirled it once through the center as the drow beside him seemed to take offense enough to rebuke him about 'ethics' of all things. Micarreth could not help it. He wanted to laugh, but he was able to keep from making a fool of himself and snorting.

"Morals are for the weak who can't cut it. Ethics are for the fools who think that just because they follow set rules it means the rest of the world will eventually fall into line by their example. Both are the methods of lesser beings who know that if it ever came down to a true test of strength of will or power they would lose."

Micarreth found it far easier to speak with a mug of ale already in his tummy and another one soon to follow. In fact, Micarreth was in such a good mood, that when the other challenged him, he was quick to step up!

"Ho barkeep! You hear what the man said? Your strongest drink in the biggest mug you got!" The call was made quite cheerfully to the barkeep, and Micarreth swiveled in his seat to sit at the counter proper. He fished another collection of coins from his pocket. Spilling them onto the countertop, he turned to wink at the man beside him.

"Fortunate for you then that I have nothing better to save my coin for. Bottoms up!"

Rak nodded with a slick smile as the drink was ordered for him. Finally something to warm his bones! His eyes showed the excitement as the rather larger container was brought to him. It didn't matter that he was trying to stay calm and collecting and nonchalant, the look in his eyes would just yell other wise.

He took the mug in his hands. He could smell the strength from it just with it sitting there. "Yes, how fortunate for me." He said before closing his eyes and bringing the mug to his lips. He wheeled his head back and just started to chug the drink that was bought for him. Swallow, swallow, swallow. Rak had to fight the urge to gag and choke under the drink as his lack of drinking was getting the better of him. The drink burnt all the way down, and was not settling so well as he slammed the mug on the counter. His mouth still burnt with the residue of the drink.

"thats... some.... good..." His face seemed to become as his eyes opened. He managed to take control of his body and avoid a rather embarrassing mess on the floor. He covered his mouth as he held back, and swallowed again. "Very... strong..."

Micarreth watched as the other drow accepted the drink, tilted his head back, and guzzled the liquid. There was a obvious hint of effort on the others part. The tightening of the facial features for instance. But he did manage to down the entier mug in one attempt. While that had not been a initial part of the dare, Micarreth was not about to make any sort of fuss over it.

Actually, he had an idea to have a bit of fun in truth. The males gasping words and small pause and swallow put a faint smile on Micarreths face. "Oh well now...I guess you showed me didn't you? I'm quite impressed. Here. Let me get you another drink in honor of your obviously strong stomach."

Micarreth lifted his hand and gestered to te barkeep. He had deep pockets this evening, and now that he had a chance at some sport he wanted to take full advantage of it.

"Say now. What would your name happen to be? I think I would like to know what to call my drinking companion for the evening."

Rak didn't think twice. If he could just move a little bit... he could surely make room for another drink. He shifted in his seat, stretched... yawned. It was helping a little bit but not to much. "Oh no, nothing like the last one! I don't think my stomach is large enough to even hold that much!" He chuckled and let out a small belch. He then smiled and started to laugh.

Gaining his composure again he shook his head. "Oh yes, I suppose I should tell you my name Mr... mr... Err well I guess formalities were missed on both ends eh?" He gave the other a friendly punch to the arm.

"My name is Rak'Neer Fein. The Strong Tempest Singer!" He was talking rather loud and triumphantly, the liquor obviously beginning to take hold of him. "Well I must admit that sounded gay... Lets just leave it at Rak shalt we..."

Micarreth allowed the barkeep to choose the next drink. Obviously it would not be the same as the one Rak had just finished, as the other drow had made mention of not wanting another. Micarreth was certain though he would choose something suitable enopugh, and even if he did not Mica hardly cared. When one finally had access to the family vaults again they rarely thought about just how much they were spending right away.

"Rak is it? Your name reminds me a bit of my brothers. Though his is a dancer to your singer." And yes, he definatly sounded gay at that. "My name is Micarreth, or Mica as some tend to shorten it to. Though I prefer the unshortened version. Tell me Rak, what House do you work for that pays you so little that you have to drink watered down garbage from a place like this?"
PostPosted: Tue Jul 29, 2008 9:45 pm

"So we are both in agreement the house is worth not mentioning..." Rak spoke the truth. He would not wish to bring up the name of his house, after all they didn't really associate themselves with him either. It was a one of those relationships where the house could care less what happened to him, but would defend him if they could. Not so much for him, but more so as for attacking a member of their house.

"Watered down garbage... as much as I hate it, its better than nothing is it not. But tonight Im not drinking watered down cause fate as brought..." He took the mug and started to slop up the liquor. It was good, it filled his stomach, it took the stress from his situation away, even for a moment. "... me here where you have decided to be so kind as to give me this... this wonderful bountiful liquid bliss! I must say the kind hearted are far and few between, for good reason I should assume as well. But here you are! I vow no harm..."

He took another gulp "shalt befall upon you as long as I'm standing!" He had went to slam the mug on the table, but missed and lost his balance and fell forward on the bar. "Well now, what say you was that... It seems to be hitting me hard... like a pack of bricks... pack of wolves... ton of bricks... Its hitting me very fast!"

Micarreth had not even finished half his drink. He did not even have a faint buzz. There was a reason for this however. He needed to be utterly sober for dealing with his current 'drinking companion'. Micarreth parted his lips in a faint grin as he listened to the slurred words of Rak.... and motioned for the barkeep to fill his glass again.

"With such good fortune upon you then, you should take full advantage of it don't you think? Tell me Rak. What sort of skills have you picked up for yourself? I personally am training to be a warrior."

Micarreth was still uncertain exactly what he planned to do quite yet...but he felt this was a opportunity he must not miss. Just looking at Rak gave him slight ideas as to what he could do. They both had a body build that was similar.... Rak's eyes were the same color as his...and if Micarreth allowed his hair to grow a bit longer...well... there was always a usefulness in having a drow that shared similar appearances to you...
PostPosted: Sat Aug 16, 2008 4:50 am

Rak just sighed. More liquor! Was he really going to be able to hold down more? He could already feel his judgment wavering. Now was not a time to drink more... especially from a strangers pocket.

"No no, I mustn't drain your expenses."
Lie. Rak really wanted more.

"Ok... maybe one more round wont do to much damage."
Stupid... he really shouldn't.

"No..."
Yes, drink more.

"Or..."

Rak left it there. If a drink made it to his hands he would drink. If not, he would leave it at that. To his demise, another mug reached his hands. He turned to the other male. "Eh... skills. Umm..." He drank some of his liquor. "I have been known to swing a sword around pretty well."

Micarreth had a feeling the other drow wasn't as gracious as he was trying to be. No more indeed! oh no...Mica wanted this drow so damn drunk he' have to drag him all the way back to his House.

"Oh really Rak. It is of no concequence! I have plenty of gold, too much to spend all on my own. here, drain away." And by that he of course meant the mug that was placed in the other drows hand.

"Now there is the spirit! To good ale and plenty of coin eh?" Mica raised his own glass in a mock toast. Placing it to his lips, he merely sipped at the contents. He was nurseing his mug so as to ensure he did not get even a little dizzy. He was going to have fun tonight...

"Well that is quite the useful skill Rak. I'm learning swordplay myself in fact. You know, I ought to show you my best blade. I think you'd be impressed with it..ah...but I've left it home though...."
