Peri had sent the child a note that they would be holding class in the canyon today and was waiting at the elevator that would take them down to the canyon floor. There were less crosswinds down there and it would be easier for the pair to learn to fly in a simpler air flow.

"Oh yes! This is it Baroness!" Ter was saying to the Wyvern as she walked along toward where they were supposed to meet up with their teacher, "You are going to learn the secrets of flight today! Once we can fly we can go anywhere."

Once they could fly they could leave when ever they wanted, get anywhere faster, it was going to be true freedom! He patted the Wyvern's neck from where he was draped over her, his long form threaded through her spines, "Just imagine, once we can fly we can get out of this place whenever we like."

Baroness nodded her head, teeth barred in a grin. She couldn't wait! Soon Vorel wouldn't be the only one able to fly from place to place, wouldn't be the only one who could take their partner flying. She saw the teacher and walked toward him, her long tail lashing back and forth.

"Hello." She greeted him in her guttural voice.

"Hey Mr. Coleman." Ter greeted the man. Both the snake and the dragon were in wonderful moods at the moment, both had been very much looking forward to the day the Wyvern was able to take flight.

Peri grinned at the two, hitting the button for the elevator as they drew closer. "Hey, guys. Excited to be learning to fly?" He knew this was one of the classes that the kids seemed to look forward to. As the doors opened, he gestured for them to get on and they rode the elevator down to the canyon floor.

The man walked a short distance to a wide, clear area. "We're going to be learning down here because the airflow is much simpler. The wind blows down the canyon and that's pretty much it. Up there," he pointed up towards where they'd just been, "there's many levels of airflow and they can often be blowing in very different directions."

He glanced at the two. "I see you've figured out how to stay on your dragon," he commented to Ter. "You'll probably want to hold on to one of the spines to help keep you on. Wyverns are a bit different than the other dragons because they have only four limbs instead of six, with their wings integrated onto their forelimbs." He gestured to Baroness' wings. "So she'll have to stand upright almost to take off."

He grinned at the two. "Go ahead and give it a shot, just don't strain too hard. When you want a break, we'll talk about air currents a bit more while you're resting."

Both of the two gave nods at the same time to indicate that they were in fact more then ready to learn about flying. Both of them wanted nothing more then to be in the sky where they belonged!

Ter gave a nod as he sat up, "Should I get down and let her try a few times on her own?" He asked of the teacher, wanted to let Baroness practice on her own before trying with extra weight on her back. The snake worried a little that she might try and crash, he'd rather not be on her back if that happened, he might get stuck on her spines.

Baroness gave a grumble, wanting to start trying now! She didn't want to wait on a conversation between the pair...

Perilas eyed the dragon for a long moment in response to the kid's question. "Hrm... often the dragons try to fly a bit on their own by now. Though not always," the man muttered, then shrugged. "It's probably a good idea to let her try on her own first, though..." The last bit was said louder, for Ter to hear.

"You're kind of my guinea pigs. I've only had this class a few times now... and it seems to be a bit different each time." He explained.

Ter nodded, slidding down off his wyvern's neck and gave her a pat on the side, "Do your best! See if you do better then your attempts at the park." He teased.

The wyvern snapped her teeth at him when he started to tease her and she started to do as the teacher had told her, pushing up onto her feet and started to flap her wings rapidly, trying to push off into the air.

Unfortunately for Peri (or perhaps fortunately, depending on how one looked upon it), the dragon classes like this were more of him giving guidelines than anything else. After all, how as a human supposed to instruct a dragon in flight? He'd read up on the theories and such, but much more than that, he just had to guess... and let instinct take over.

For the moment, though, the man remained silent. He'd let the dragoness try on her own first and offer up suggestions if she seemed stuck.

Baroness had no idea how she was supposed to get herself into the air, had tried gliding on many occasions in the park but had yet to gain real flight capability. She flapped her wings rapidly and was able to get her bulk off the ground for a moment.

Ter gave a grin as he watched, seeing her feet lifting off the ground with much effort before she touched back down, "Not to bad Baroness, you got up off the ground." He told her.

She let out a long breath before nodding her head, pleased. Once she rested up a bit she tried again, this time trying to get a running start as she flapped.

Peri nodded, smiling. "A very good attempt. Perhaps you can try jumping upwards with your legs to gain height." He decided to go ahead with a bit of the lesson and give the dragon a short rest. "As I was saying earlier, the air has currents like water. Each level can vary in height and dragons seem to have a sort of sixth sense almost for the air currents. They're usually able to tell where an updraft, which is a rising column of air, is located."

"These currents can help them in their flight, for usually there's one flowing in the direction desired, if you just find the right altitude."

Baroness gave a nod, deciding to listening closely to the man as he was the one with the secret to flight. She did as she as told, pushing off with her legs once more in a powerful leap, wings opening wide...

Ter lifted a hand to smother a laugh as his dragon was able to catch one of the air currents and it caused her to give a dragon's version of a gasp when it pushed her up into the air.

The wyvern was carried along for a moment before she touched down again. Her tail set to lashing in delight behind her, turning to give her boy a proud grin showing many sharp teeth. Sure it wasn't perfect but it was flight!

Peri grinned at the dragon's surprise, trying to hide it as she glanced back at him, not wanting to upset her. Wyverns weren't exactly the most gentle of dragons at times... He clapped. "Good job! You'll be flying before you know it! Feel up to trying again?"

The wyvern gave a nod of her head, finding the teacher to have had a good suggestion. She had to try again and again and again until she figured this out! Once she figured it out she would practice and practice until she was flying circles around Vorel and every other dragon she came across! Her tail lashed for a moment as her mind raced before she was once more tromping again, wings open wide, flapping as she pushed off.

This time when she caught air she wasn't as surprised and was able to use the air currents to advantage. She gave rapid flapping of her wings, gaining altitude. She gave a pleased sound as she floated along on the currents of air. Sure she wasn't soaring the skies yet but this was better then walking!

Ter gave a grin, showing his fangs as she watched his dragoness as she started to get the hang of flying. He was going to have to treat her to something good after this he thought to himself. Something new for her horde or some sort of tasty treat.

Peri grinned, nodding approval at the dragon's progress. "Now that she's gotten the hang of it, you can join her. We don't want to wear her out too much. You'll probably have to keep her from flying too much at first." He warned Ter. "Too much and she'll hurt her wing muscles. She'll have to build them up first. So short flights and slowly going on longer ones."

Ter gave a nod of his head and slithered after Baroness, catching up with her when she landed again to take a rest. He reached up to catch hold of one of the spines on her head and gave it a little tug, "The teacher says you need to only practice a bit at a time so you don't hurt your wing muscles."

Baroness looked at him in a manner that said she didn't want to stop quite yet, "One more time." She said in her guttural English.

He nodded, "One more time but he says this time with me on your back." He pulled himself up onto her back and shifted his coils so they threaded through the spines on her back, "Lets see if you can get off the ground with me on your back."

She gave him a dark look before rushing forward to try to take to the air, it took a bit longer this time to get up in the air as she had to adjust to the change in weight but soon enough they were gliding a little ways above the ground both of them grinning like idiots.

Peri was grinning like an idiot as well. He liked it when his classes went well and without a fight. Or injury. Or anything else that would result in Alan giving him another child... He gave the pair a thumbs up and unfortunately had to call their flight short. "Good! Just remember to take it slowly and you'll be flying high before you know it!"
