I N F O R M A T I O N Discovery: Paper, on one of her nightly hauntings, witnessed a strange sight. A falling star. While normally unremarkable, this particular star was enormous and fairly expoding with color and light. She followed its descent into an oridinary looking forest where she discovered it. Sitting quietly in a clearing was what appeared to be an old stone temple.... After standing at the temple steps for a while, Paper finally got up the nerve to go inside. After all, she's a ghost, it's not like anything's going to kill her. As she stepped up to the stone doors, prepared to go exploring, she was confronted by a woman dressed in belts and rags. Several rediculously thick chains trailed from the woman's wrists and ankles, latching her quite firmly to the temple.. which was odd, because Paper hadn't seen or heard her appear. When, despite her slightly ominous appearance, the woman greeted Paper politely and introduced herself.
She called herself the Crystal Guardian, a powerful spirit that had inhabited the temple for many millenia. Her job was to protect the temple, to keep its secrets safe. However, with time comes change, and the Guardian has been faced with a very unique and troublesome situation... The Crystal Long ago... very.. very long ago, the Great Crystal shone its light on Gaia, chasing away the shadows that had settled on the small world. The Crystal Temple was built some time after, as the Crystal's light slowly shifted away from Gaia. The temple was a leyline, a direct link from Gaia to the Crystal that allowed its light to flow into the world even as the Crystal moved away. The Crystal Guardian was charged with protecting this very special place, and she did successfully for ages. Her job was fairly easy, however, as the Crystal Temple was constantly moving, appearing in only the most remote of areas. But, as time passed, the link between Gaia and Crystal faded, and with it the Guardian became weaker until she was nothing more than a wisp of consciousness.
And then... Something had tugged roughly on the link, shaking the temple to its roots. The Guardian was wrenched from her empty sleep just in time to feel the prescence of the Great Crystal extinguished suddenly and almost completely. There was only a tiny glimmer left... and so, over the course of many years, the Crystal Guardian carefully used the unstable link to guide the dieing light to Gaia. A small blaze of color against the night sky was all that marked its arrival as the light settled into the temple, crystalizing itself once again... __[The Elysians]__
[A short History] Pulled from the Book of the Ancients.
Radiance born spirits.. The Elysians were created within the heart of the Prime Crystal, where the light of eternity shines the brightest. They are the children of the Crystal, imbued with its power, its beauty, and its purpose.
Guardians of Crystal dominion.. The Elysians exist to protect. They are compelled to guard the domain of Light from the evils that continuously gather in the shadows of the Crystal's glory. To facilitate this, the Crystal created the Nexus.
The Celestial Nexus.. The home plane of the Elysians exists apart from all other worlds, nestled instead within the Crystal itself. This detached plane of floating islands came to be called the Celestial Nexus, as it is connected to almost all other worlds via the Crystal's influence. The principle city of the Elysians, a city of spiraling towers resting upon a mass of clouds, is called Aesolon'Reaux.
Companions to Light-touched souls.. or servants shadowbound. In every world there exists a unique link to the Nexus, and through trials that test strength of will or strength of body, individuals can reach across this link to call to the Elysians. Even above the the Crystal's wishes, the Elysians are compelled to obey their summoners. If their summoner's commands are shadow-tainted, the Elysians can only obey in silence, an act that defies their basic nature and often leaves scars that take ages to heal. Spirits bound to shadow service often lose their primary elements, sometimes even retaining some of the dark influences. However, regardless of the deeds performed by command, Elysians are always absolved of their sins once they return to Aesolon'Reaux. The city restores the Light in their heart no matter how how far into darkness they have fallen. If there has ever been an Elysian of true Shadow, it has yet to be documented.
[The Guardian's Lament.] A plea to Gaia.
"Alas.. darkness has finally breached the Nexus. Shadows have all but engulfed the Land of Light and the Crystal is greatly weakened. It troubles me that the Elysians were unable to battle this dissaster... but I know nothing of the events that have traspired, and I can only guess at the reason.
The light of the Prime Crystal has settled on Gaia, and is calling to the inhabitants for aide. It has no other choice. Without the power of the Crystal to sustain their full conciousness, the Elysians within the Nexus have fallen into a dangerously deep slumber, and are vulnerable to the engulfing shadows. With every ounce of energy it has left, the Crystal is protecting the last remaining haven of its children, the island of Aesolon'Reaux. But its power is waning, and with each passing moment, its hold on the city grows more tenuous...
There is some hope, however slim, that we might still save the sleeping spirits from falling into the darkness of oblivion. When the Crystal can spare the energy, it will open a small gateway into the Nexus in the form of a large crystal shard. These shards contain a link to the soul of a slumbering Elysian. With the power of the temple's runes, and the touch of a worthy summoner, the shard is able to draw the spirit of the Elysian into Gaia, and out of the dangers of the Nexus.
With each Elysian we are able to summon, we lighten the burden on the Crystal's power, enabling it to strengthen it's hold over Aesolon'Reaux and thus ensuring the safety of the defenseless spirits within.
But.... I fear that the Nexus as a whole is doomed.. Unless we can find a way to fight against the shadows that have taken hold, I fear that the Crystal's Light shall never shine again..." --------------------------------------- R O L E P L A Y I N G Elysian Crystals 101 Introduction. First of all, congratulations on recieving a crystal shard. ^^ Yes it is a shard. Yes I know it's quite large for to be called a 'shard'. But you know, the Prime Crystal is much larger, so it works.
Anyway. The first thing you may notice about your crystal is that it has certain elemental qualities. All crystals have a primary element. Well, all but zero element crystals of course... but we'll get to that later. Don't sidetrack me.
So, your crystal has an element. How does this affect you? Well, depending on your crystal's element, it will react differently when exposed to different environments as well as other elysians. The following information will help you understand your crystal and its actions.
The Elemental Wheel. Generally speaking, every element has a dominant or submissive relationship with two other elements. These two other elements will most likely get the strongest reaction when exposed to a crystal. For example, water dominates fire. If exposed to a match, a water crystal is likely to lash out at the offending object and extinguish it. However, water is submissive to thunder, and a crystal may become distressed or anxious when placed too close to electrical devices or thunder based elysians.
This is but a basic instinct to elysians, and they are often better able to control it once summoned. However while in crystal form, it is quite normal and expected for these reactions to occur.
Water Dominates: [Fire] Submissive to: [Thunder] Fire Dominates: [Ice] Submissive to: [Water] Ice Dominates: [Wind] Submissive to: [Fire] Wind Dominates: [Earth] Submissive to: [Ice] Earth Dominates: [Thunder] Submissive to: [Wind] Thunder Dominates: [Water] Submissive to: [Earth]
The following elements are a bit of an exception to the rules.
Light Compatible with: Fire, Wind, Lighting Dark Compatible with: Ice, Earth, Water Light and Dark based elysians are both dominant and submissive to eachother depending on the situation and the elysian in question. They are also more 'compatible' with certain other elements, while not really being submissive or dominant. The effects of this compatibility are still being researched. So far all it seems to signify is a higher likeliness of a friendly relationship.
Zero Neutral relationship with all elements with only a small tendancy to associate with Dark Elysians. Zero element elysians appear to react equally to all elements. There is, however, a slight gravitation toward dark elysians. There seems to be a sort of a comradery between the two types. This is due to the fact that Zero and Dark elysians are created only through the act of serving an evil summoner. Zero element elysians are both appalled and intrigued by the vision of what they themselves nearly became. Zero crystals are also somewhat of an oddity in that they often absorb nearby elemental essences. In fact, these crystals seem to thrive off of exposure to all the different elements. The zero crystals are ravenous for elemental energy, so placing one near an outlet can cause ungodly electric bills. It also becomes a problem when interacting with other crystals. Keeping an elementally charged crystal next to a zero crystal for a prolonged period of time can result in a dead gateway.
Final notes on Elemental relationships: -Keep your elysian's element in mind while having them interact with their environment. -While elysian's tend to get a better handle on their basic instincts when they are summoned, it may still be common for conflicting elements to, well, conflict. -This does not give you permission to have your elysian be an @sshat to other elysians. Please be tasteful with your RP. -Please see above.
Guidelines for General Roleplay: -Physically, an elysian crystal is about a foot long, and weighs 5-6lbs. -Your crystals cannot talk. For the most part they comunicate by light and color, with more intense emotions conveyed by displays of their elemental magic. Generally their reactions won't be too be animated due to the fact that the elysian is actually -asleep-, and the actions of the crystal represent the elysian's subconcious. -Your crystals have very limited magic. The crystals themselves are designed to be gateways and not weapons of mass destruction or whatever else. Any magic that happens is purely elemental energy being siphoned from the elysian. So a water crystal may be able to create a small puddle, but it certainly isn't going to cast a complicated offensive or healing spell. - For the moment there is nothing else. This section will be updated as needed.
The Path of the Summoner Introduction. Once you have summoned your Elysian it is no longer mandatory to RP it. Even journals are optional, and only really necessary if you are taking part in the Nexus project. There are no post requirements if you're keeping a journal, and we encourage you to use them simply for your own enjoyment. However-- Keep in mind that dedicated summoners will be rewarded. 3nodding
Carrying on.. In an attempt to keep the front page from overflowing with text, and also to leave the specifics of rp in the hands of the individual summoners, this section will be written in f.a.q. form. This section will be updated as needed.
So how big are Elysians? Most elysians will be about a foot tall or so. Any variance will be noted in the initial summoning.
Can they speak? Well of course. But how soon they speak after being summoned, and how talkative they are is left to you.
Do they have memories (of past summoners or the Nexus itself)? For now, no. Once summoned, elysians suffer from amnesia and cannot remember the specifics of their former lives due to the trauma of recent events. This doesn't mean that you can't give some thought to your elysian's backstory, in fact it might be a good idea to do so in preperation of future developments.
Oh! Sweetness! I just remembered that Ifrit can do Hell Fire! Muwahahaha! *cough* Actually... no. It can't. Elysians are summoned with only the most basic of abilities, which are listed in your journals (if you have them). It will be possible for elysians to learn other abilities later on.
Man.. why is my elysian so puny? Hey. Have a little respect wouldja? XP But get used to it. Since the Prime Crystal is no longer pouring energy into the elysians once they are summoned, they cannot manifest their full power in Gaia.
Right.. um.. I still have some questions. .__. That's ok! If at any time you are unsure about rping you elysian, don't hesitate to send a PM to the CrystalGuardian account and one of the staff members will gladly assist you.
