YOU MAY POST
IN THIS THREAD!!!

This is where those interested in working for me shall go. This will be how I'll answer any questions that the students of Hogwarts in general have. I will post any information I deem important to know. I will also post information on how to join my staff, how to advertise in the paper, and the differences between what should be posted and what should be PMed. I hope you find it useful. I supose you don't have to read all this in order to write for me, but if you do something dumb or ask a stupid question that's answered below because you're too lazy to even read the darn index(just below) then I have absolutely no pitty for you. rolleyes

Answers to any frequently asked questions:
Now, many have asked me the same questions again and again. I, obviously, plan to answer many of them here and I will always add to this and find a way to keep these all up somewhere, possibly no here though. I won't try to say who asked what questions, because I do not have the patience for it. So I will just ask a garbled version of the questions I seem to be continuously answering. Then I'll answer them and if you still have questions feel free to contact me in whatever way you like.

Answer
Question

What exactly is the Hogwarts Monthly?

The Hogwarts Monthly is (starting on January 6th)a school newspaper for Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. It is, literally, bran new. We plan to be a major source of news, entertainment, and community for the Harry Potter Guild of Gaia. Created to keep guild members active, alert the entire guild of any guild information, but mostly to allow students to show off their artistic skills and enhance the imaginations of such a creative community. 3nodding

Answer
Question

I'm interested in the Hogwarts Monthly, how do I get more information?

Well, first I would like you to read all of the contents of this particular thread. Then, if you are still thirsty for knowledge, then contact me.

Answer
Question

Where the heck can I contact you?

I may be somewhere on Gaia, probably even chatting on some thread of this very guild. Or you could PM heart me. Or you could email me at katiekat_VP@yahoo.com, which I check almost every single day right after school and just before bed and all sorts of times in between. Or you could IM me, if you have AOL, AIM or Yahoo messenger, my screen name for both is katiekatVP and I'm online almost constantly. If I am not on AIM or Yahoo Messenger, then my internet is most likely down or my power out.

Answer
Question

What will this Hoqwarts Weekly be like?

Well, I would love for it to end up something like this, but I am afraid that this is almost impossible. sad

Answer
Question

Is information like this posted anywhere else?

Every mass post or PM I've ever posted is in my other account's (HogwartsWeeklyRep.) journal. I try to keep it as up-to-date as possible and please forgive me if I fall a bit behind. But as of now it is up to date. 3nodding

Questions from other writers:

Answer
Question from neostargurl_126
How many stories can u have in the paper??
As many as you can write, as long as they are all your own original work, related to the magical world (even distantly), and at least PG-13 rated (I might take PG-14 though? wink

Answer
Question from Angilwingz
Can you make comics for the monthly?
Of course you can! I wish I did have one, to tell you the truth?

What to post and what to PM (Post etiquette)
Basically, you may post your questions, ideas for the paper, and stuff like that here; you may not, however, post your actual pieces for the paper. It just spoils it for the rest of the guild...if you must you may discuss the topics of your stories but I'd prefer you didn't but I realize that sometimes we all need to know what's going on. sweatdrop You may always PM heart me questions but I'm afraid I will no longer be answering questions on what everyone else is writing. It's tedious and takes up more time than I posses. And, of coarse, you will PM heart or email me (at katiekat_VP@yahoo.com) your finished work. 3nodding

But if you post something that I don't think needs to be here, or if you post your work for the H. Monthly or what I deem too much information for bad reasons. Then I'll edit/delete your post. I will almost always give you a warning and 24 hours to respond, but if I think I need to I wont wait for a response, but I will always tell you if I ever edit or delete your post and I will keep a copy of it in a personal word document in case you ever, for whatever bizarre reason, need it. So I'm going to be strict with this thread, but I hope not to come off as mean. I just want this to be clean and orderly. You can mess around with me outside of the thread. 3nodding

Oh, and please don't bump the thread, I've no clue why you would, but don't it's just obnoxious. I'll bump the thread every time I change information on this first page. But that's it, no bumps besides me...hypocritical, I know, sorry; but these are the rules.

Freshmen Writers:
Writers working First-Time will be doing just that. They will send me their work for the first time or else they have gone longer than 3 months without writing. This is for those who do not normally write but have had a spurt of literary ingenious and would like to share it with the guild. Or for those who have almost no time to write anything besides what they must do for school work. Each Freshman writer will be paid 100 gold on the spot for writing for the paper. (No matter how long their article is) If their article is over 100 words, however, they will receive 1 gold for every word over 100. They will also receive a 25 gold bonus for every extra article they take on. (1 gold for every word over 100 for the extra articles as well)

Juniors:
Writers working as Juniors are obviously writing more often than Freshmen writers. They must write with no more than 2 months between articles. (Meaning you can miss 2, but if you miss the 3rd one, you get bumped back down to a Freshman) For those who can't write as much, but have a little bit of time. It is also meant for those who are perfectionists and need to write and re-write every little sentence 3 times before they are satisfied. You know who you are wink A Junior writer will get 150 gold on the spot for writing for the paper. (Again, no matter the length of the article) Again if the article is over 100 words they will get paid more for each word, only they will be paid 2 gold per word over 100. A Junior Writer will also receive 50 gold for every extra article he or she takes on. (2 gold for every word over 100 for the extra articles as well)

Senior Writers:
Senior writers are sort of the best-of-the-best on the Hogwarts Monthly Writing Staff. They write for every single issue. Once a writer has been established a Senior writer for 3 issues in a row; they are then allowed a sick day(or miss an issue) out of every 3 months. A Senior writer is paid 300 gold on the spot for writing for the paper. (But a Senior writer's on-the-spot article must be at least 50 words long) A Senior writer will receive 5 gold for every word over 100 words. They will receive 100 gold for each extra article (again, requirement of 50 words) with 5 gold for every word over 100 in those as well. Each article written by a Senior writer that is not over 50 words, will be paid as if it was a Freshman writer's article; but will still count as an article written and will not take up a sick day. (Chances are that if you write that much anyways, then you won't really care because at least one of your articles is over 50)

Now, you don't get to just say "hey I want to be a Senior writer" You have to earn your spot. This is why these payments don't come into play until issue 3.

heart

How to bump yourself up the writing chain:
Quote:
Everyone who writes their first anything for the Hogwarts Monthly is a Freshman writer and will be paid and treated as such.
Once you have written in 2 issues, then on your third issue (as long as it is no more than 3 months afterwards) you will be promoted to a Junior writer and will be treated and paid as such. This way no one can sneak their way into one day's better pay.
After you have written in 4 issues in a row then on your 5th issue, you will be promoted to be a Senior writer and will be paid and treated as such. And on your 8th issue in a row, you will be given the privilege of 1 sick day out of every 3 months.

Bonuses:
Since my writers are paid by how often they write as apposed to how much or well they write. I have decided to create these awards for my writers. They are not in any particular order. They will come with gifts as soon as I can find ways to fund them. The awards (and eventually the gifts that come with them) will be presented in the following issue (EX: the awards for next Friday's issue will be presented the following Friday, the ones for the month of January will be presented the first Friday of February, and so on and so forth)

Quote:
The Talkie Award:
Given to each writer who reaches 5000 words total (meaning a cumulative that stretches over all the issues) and will come with 1000 gold or a Thank You Letter (if I can manage it)

Quote:
The Chief Chatter Award:
Given each issue to the writer who wrote the most for that issue.

Quote:
The Big Blabber Award:
Given out every 6 months to the writer who wrote the most.

Quote:
The Writer's Academy Award:
Given out after every 3 months to the best article, voted on by Hogwarts Monthly's writers.

Quote:
The Publisher's Choice Award:
Given out by me each issue, to what I believe is the best piece of work.

Quote:
The People's Choice Award:
Given out after every 4 months to the best writer, voted on by the guild members.

Job Opportunities:
Many of us are not quite as literally artistic as we would like to be, but would still like to play an active role in the paper. Well I will now be accepting applications to be the Editor's Assistant, a Junior Editor, an Image Creator, or a Staff ID Maker/Vendor. Discriptions of each, as well as applications are below.

NOTE: upon applying you are agreeing that you are willing to make out a rough schedule in which you will be (to the best of your abilities) available in some non-verbal way (meaning internet) so that the Editor may discuss desiered topic with you. Consistant failure to availability will resolve in your employment termination.

Quote:
Assistant to the Editor

---This assistant will aid me in gathering information from guild members, come up with ideas for the paper itself(to make it more efficient, enjoyable, and profitable), edit typos and other corrections needed, along with other things that I cannot hope to do all on my own. This assistant will need to be on Gaia at least 4 days of the week, which means that that includes a week day. This assistant will also need to be an avidly active guild member.
If you would like to apply simply fill out the following questionnaire to best of your capabilities and either PM heart it to me or email it to me at katiekat_VP@yahoo.com.

NOTE: upon applying you are agreeing that you are willing to make out a rough schedule in which you will be (to the best of your abilities) available in some non-verbal way (meaning internet) so that the Editor may discuss desiered topic with you. Consistant failure to availability will resolve in your employment termination.

Quote:
*you are not required to answer all questions, but please state that you prefer not to disclose that information, so I know. It would also help if you explained why.

1. What is your name?
2. What grade level are you in? How old are you?
3. Roughly, how long have you been a member of the guild, both official
and unofficial?
4. Which Harry Potter books have you read, how many times?
5. What other books have you read?
6. How many days of the week are you on Gaia? (Average)
7. Why should I hire you as my assistant? (At least 3 sentences, please)
8. What do you think an assistant is? (At least 3 sentences, please)
9. What do you think this job will require of you? (At least 3 sentences,
please)
10. Name three strengths that you posses. Any strengths.
11. Name three weaknesses that you posses.
12. Name each person in the entire Weasley Family.
13. Name each person in Harry's Dormitory at Hogwarts.
14. Did you need to find the books to answer questions 12 and 13?
15. What title do you think this job should have, if it were not "assistant to
the Publisher"?

---My assistant will be paid 200 gold for each issue he/she helps me with to start, but this is likely to rise. Also, do not feel bad if you are not hired; I will be very picky about who I hire. This is because I will most likely give this person access to my either my other account which is for the Hogwarts Monthly only and contains all of its funds or access to similar valuable things. 3nodding It's nothing personal, it's just business. wink

Quote:
Junior Editor

---A Junior Editor will do jobs similar to the Editor's Assistant, but will have far less acess to the fundamentals of the paper (my account, Figgy's account.) A Junior Editor's job entails (what a cawinki'dink wink ) editing. They will be breifly (I use this term lightly) trained as to how articles are formated before they make it to the final "post issue" point and their main job will be basically to format articles I give them so I can just put them into the issue without having to do it myself, on top of all the other things that I do (like my own articles.) This could include anywhere between one article per issue to maybe even over seven or eight articles an issue.
---To apply, fill out the following application and PM it to the Editor.

NOTE: upon applying you are agreeing that you are willing to make out a rough schedule in which you will be (to the best of your abilities) available in some non-verbal way (meaning internet) so that the Editor may discuss desiered topic with you. Consistant failure to availability will resolve in your employment termination.

3. Roughly, how long have you been a member of the guild, both official

5. What other books have you read?
6. How many days of the week are you on Gaia? (Average)
7. Do you have Microsoft Word? (it's what I use, even if I probably shouldn't...)
8. Do you have an email account that you check regularly? (In case you arn't on Gaia) Or is there a non-verbal and non-intrusive way that I could possible contact you if need be?
9. What do you think this job will require of you? (At least 3 sentences,
please)
10. Name three strengths that you posses. Any strengths.
11. Name three weaknesses that you posses.
12. Name each guild crew member. (7)
13. Name each Griffindor Quidditch team member from Harry's 3rd year. ( 7 )
14. Did you need to go find the answers to questions 12 and 13? (answer honestly)
15. Is there anything you want me to know before I make a final desicion about your application?

---A Junior Editor will make 100 gold a week at first (even if he/she doesn't get a single article to edit, but simply for being a resource) and will be paid, again, at first 25 gold for each article the edit correctly. But if they fail to edit an article I send them (as long as they've had resonable time to edit it) then they will fail to receive wages for that article and if they fail to edit any I send, then they will receive no pay and be fiered. domokun I'm a resonable person and if you say you don't think you're going to be on that much for any given article, then fair enough, but you won't receive pay while you're gone, I'm afraid (There will be no sick-leave here.)

Quote:
Image Creator

---An Image Creator will do just that, create images of all sorts shapes and sizes for me. This is a very low need job at the moment, but I thought I'd make it available and I will probably use the resorce this staff member will provide more and more with every comming issue. I will ask an image creator to make advertisements for specific guild events (somewhat like my "Opperation Scourgify Ads"), possibly make small image headers for articles, and what ever else I may need (visually) for an issue. My use for the resource that this person will provide will depend on the creator's ability, both with what editing programs they may have and with how skilled they are with those editing programs.
---To apply, please fill out the following application and PM it to the Editor.

NOTE: upon applying you are agreeing that you are willing to make out a rough schedule in which you will be (to the best of your abilities) available in some non-verbal way (meaning internet) so that the Editor may discuss desiered topic with you. Consistant failure to availability will resolve in your employment termination.

8. Do you have an email account that you check regularly? (In case you arn't on Gaia) Or is there a non-verbal and non-intrusive way that I could possible contact you if need be?

14. Did you need to go find the answers to questions 12 and 13? (answer honestly)
15. Is there anything you want me to know before I make a final desicion about your application?

---An Image creator will be paid 100 gold an issue just for being a resource. (so, if I don't ask them to do anything, they still get 100g) The will be paid by the image and each image's worth will be discussed between the editor and the image creator (depending on how hard they worked, possible how many drafts they made before finished, and how much they discussed what with me about details I wanted.)

--------*Comic Strip Artist
-----(also, possibly these titles)
--------*Freshmen Staff Member
--------*Junior Staff Member

2) Do you have any experience with creating images? Can you give an example of any past work?

3) Will you be willing to take the time and energy to create every ID ordered?

4) Do you have and estimate as to how much you plan to charge for each ID? How much of those profits will you be donating directly to the paper?

5) If you were to make an ID, what would it entail? Can you make a rough example image? (Not required, but helpful)

biggrin Thank you for your application!
The editor will PM you whether you got the job or not! biggrin

---Staff ID Maker/Vendor will receive 200 gold for making sample IDs (One sample for each needed type) and could possible reveive more for whatever extra ideas they have to offer or if they go above and beyond my expectations. Besides that, they will be aloud to keep a percent of the profits made, which will be discussed with the Editor and the Vendor (but it will be no more than 50%.)

Topics For Paper:
Many of my writers are asking me "what should I write about?" and to be quite frank, I don't know. Many of my other writers are choosing to write about all-too-similar topics. But this isn't a boundary. I'm always open to new ideas and your always welcome to write about whatever you wish. This is just for those who aren't as good at writing off the top of their heads. So I'll try to update this list as much as possible. So you all know what's going on.

Quote:
KEY:
Topic-writer for that topic-profile link for that writer
Unused topics will be italicized

~New Teachers/Classes
I'd like to do a piece on our new teachers, now that I've printed my piece on last term's. This could, but isn't limited to, include either a brief description of all our new teachers, or you could even interview the teacher, sit-in on a lesson or two, ask what other students think. But please, don't criticize any teachers, it's very difficult to set up anything in a guild and a class is no exception. Post or PM is you'd like to take on the topic!

~fan-fics
I was told I'd be getting all these fan-fic stories and I've yet to see one of them. If you have a finished bit, or even a un-finished bit(like a chapter) of a fan-fic, then feel free to tell me!

~book review
I've always liked the idea of a sort of book club inside the guild. I mean we've all got to read something in-between H.P. books, so if you read a lot and would like to do a quick review and possibly say why you do/don't recommend certain books, contact me 3nodding

~Witch/Wizard of the Month
I did this for the last issue, and would be perfectly content doing it for the next one as well, but I was just wondering if anyone else wanted to pick it up... as I am getting quite busy...

~*new classes/teachers*
Well we have tons of new classes and teachers and faces in the guild and if someone wanted to do an article on the new classes, new classroom atmospere or a specific class or teacher, that'd be great! 3nodding Just please, don't tear apart these teacher's hard work or take up their job by teaching a class in my paper (I wont print it) These people work hard to put together these classes, lessons, homework, grading the homework, awarding points to the right house. It's all hard and I wont slander them for it. But I would like to have an insider article on the new classes. I'd do it myself if I had the time.

~Quidditch scores and summary
The Quidditch season is bound to start sometime in the future and if anyone wants to do an article on the matches (when they finally start), the teams, or any other aspect of the game; it'd be greatly appreciated

~Theories
Any HP theories that you would like to share? I'll print them and pay you for it! 3nodding

~events
Many events have been going on inside and outside the guild on Gaia and if anyone would like to play reporter for us and give us a breif overview, it would be lovely

~ Magical-oriented advertisements
(this is more for those who have fun with either their paint or animation program)I've wanted to do ads ever since I even started to think up this little paper, because I want it to eventually pay for itself (highly unlikely, but I can dream) so if anyone would like to make an ad; but not like the ones you have to pay for (see the 13th post on the 1st page), but instead magical ones. Like for Weasley's Mizarding Weezes or a store you might find in Diagon Alley or Hogsmead (I sorta have a few in my siggie, only they're pretty tiny, so I don't really want to put them in the issue, except for the Weasley's Wizarding Weezes. I'll even give you guys a small list of things I thought of making ads for(but I can't find the time to make them): shopes(like I said above), Weasley inventions, screaming yo-yo's, ever bashing boomerangs, stink pellets, dung bombs, fanged frisbees, exploding snap playing cards, maybe a chess board company, candy (I could go on for ages right there), books(I have this pic from the end of the 2nd move of "Who Am I?" that I'm dieing to use), random things (see the beginning to the quidditch world cup chapter of the 4th book...anyways...I wrote alot because I espaecially like this idea

How to Put An Ad In the Hogwarts Monthly:
To put your ad in the Weekly, you will need to either PM heart me or post in the thread saying so. I'll need what ever it is you would like me to post, exactly how you would like it to appear in the paper. (Except for centering it, I'll do that part when I figure out how I'm going to put it in) Then you will need to pay for your advertisement by bringing up a trade with me at the bank. (If you don't have a permit and need me to start the trade, just tell me so 3nodding ) The prices for advertisements are so:

I

NOTE: an "Ad" is here by declared by me: a image, possibly with link attached. All images must be no bigger than 500 by 500 pixels.
Links for Quests(or typed wish lists)=20 gold
Ads for wish lists=40 gold
Links for shops= 20 gold
Ads for Shops= 40 gold
Links for Threads in side of guild= 10 gold
Ads for Threads in side of guild= 20 gold
Links for Threads outside of guild= 40 gold
Ads for Threads outside if guild = 80 gold
Links to other guilds= 50 gold
Ads to other guilds= 100 gold
Ask me heart if you have something of a different nature...

heart

Let's say you don't have an ad, but more of an announcement of some kind. You may put that in the Hogwart's Weekly as well 3nodding . Just PM heart me or post in the thread about it. This option is made specifically for things like "Happy Birthdays", "Congratulations", or things along that line. The price to put something like that in the Hogwarts Monthly is such:
I

Each word= 1 gold
Each 200 characters, without spaces= 1 gold extra
Emoticons= 2 gold
Small Images (300 or less pixels both ways)=10 gold
Regular Images (between 301 and 500 pixels both ways)=20 gold
Large Images (between 501 and 700 pixels both ways)= 30 gold
Anything not listed, PM heart me.

There is a maximum of 700 by 700 pixels for images. Anything done to enhance the text (I.E. bold, italics, underlined, color) is free; but the message must be sent as you would like it to be posted.
heart

If the messages work out and people like them, I will begin to create pre-made announcements, cards if you will. Or I will pay anyone who would like to create one 50% of the income their pre-made announcement brings. Those interested need to make sure they follow the rules, and it would be nice if you totaled up the price of the announcement, I will check your math, however ninja wink .
