The tome before you belongs to Dakota (Iris_virus) and Alala. There is a seal surrounding the book, one that allows you to leaf through the pages but prevents you from adding anything. The enchantment is strong and cannot be broken so easily, if at all. So just sit back and enjoy the Tall Tale that is unfolding before you. You can visit the Stationery Store to find out how you can write your own Tall Tale.

The beginning -Dakota's mouth gaped open rather vulgarly as she yawned. Mouth openning wide in perhaps the most unlady like fashion humanly possible, she pressed her fingers through her chocolately brown hair, finally looking around looking around as her mouth shut.
She was certainly tired, but why she couldn't seem to sleep was beyond her. It was strange really, the anxious little twitch that'd been eating at her all day. That little nag in the back of the brain that tried to convince her something was going to happen today. Maybe she was just getting stir crazy again then? It had been awhile since her last little trip, and the same old dullness never was her thing.
Rustling through the small bag hitched around her waist, she dug out a familar friend of hers, dusting the metal frame carefully before she squinted in the moonlight to see it. Using a compass in a dark city probably looked ludicrous, even more so as a smile touched her tired features and words purred from her towards the cold metal object. But she spoke to it as she walked, a grin as if some grand joke rest between the two of them pasted upon her lips.- "Well well my friend. I've entrusted my future and fate in you before. What could you have in store for us tonight?"
-It didn't take much time before the store came into sight, a soft light still glowing within despite the hour. Glancing once again to the unwavering point of the needle, she pushed the door lightly open, glancing about with a little aprehension. Adventure was one thing.. Trespassing in the middle of the night was completely different.-
Late feedings weren't unusual with Paestri, and Huni had always been a night owl. But even though she knew Linneas didn't lock the doors for the night, the woman still wasn't entirely certain of their safety.
She picked Paestri up into her arms, nevermind the gooey mess that clung to Paestri's hands.
"Hello?" Huni called out as she walked into the shop front.
-Well, no gunshots and booby traps yet.. Dakota looked around again, nibbling her lip with a bit of anxious worry. This WAS a shop though.. one could tell from the look outside.. and it didn't say closed.
Stepping ni completely she let the door close behind her, not stepping to far from it as she heard the voice in the distance. Calling out cautiously, she half laughed with embarrasment.. either she was about to end up on the wrong side of an argument about late night shopping, or she was making a total fool of herself.- "Ahhh, hello? I'm not bothering you.. am I?"
"No, not at all," Huni smiled, relaxing at the sound of the other woman's voice. "In fact, some of the more interesting things about this shop happens late at night."
Paestri giggled and promptly began to suck on her fingers. Her digits were coated with various veggie pastes and milk, not to mention some chocolate that had melted then hardened then melted again.
-The unaggressive appearance and sound of the woman, matched with the happy giggle of the young one brought an immedate sense of relief to the tall female.
Gaining a soft hint of a smile, she nodded in soft understanding, taking another comforting step forward into the light and warmth of the shop. Reliezing suddenly, that she hadn't checked the sort of shop it was, she gave a quick glance around, before settling once again on the woman, an apologetic smile on her face as she tried to explain, whether it made sense or not.- "I'm sure. Most shops don't stay open very late I'd imagine. Must get the craziest sleepwalkers and customers." -she teased softly.-
"It's not the customers that are special," Huni chuckled, "Can I interest you in anything? Scented paper, fully customizable invitations, notebook covers you can design yourself, recycled paper, maybe even a visit to The Study?
Paestri blinked at the word her mama just used. She had been present when Rasik arrived, would another furry-small-person arrive from the room no one could get in unless it wanted them to? She couldn't help but wonder and become curious.
-Ahhh, so it was a paper store... What was that.. a stationary store? Yes that's it. She pondered for a long moment over the offers. As kind as they sounded, she really didn't tend to write people that often.. and when she did formality was the key, not colorful envelopes and the such.
The last offer was strange though, and she shifted softly, snapping the compass in her hand shut. Mmm.. adventurous things to see? Could it be?- "The Study? Is it interesting?"
Huni chuckled, "Interesting is an understatement. It's... more of an experience. One that I guarantee will leave you with something special."
As if on cue, the door to the Study creaked opened.
Paestri giggled and clapped her hands, excited about seeing another small person emerge from the small room.
-Ahhh, you couldn't just tempt her like that and expect her to back out. Perhaps the compass had been right once again? Or maybe she just had all the luck. Nodding with acceptance, she slid the compass back into her bag rummaging for something else as she spoke.-
"Ha! I'm very much game for it then. Just tell me how much I owe you and then we'll see what exactly this 'study' holds."
Huni bit back a laugh that would surely wake the rest of the block. "Oh don't worry, you won't owe me a cent. No one does," she grins, "Just go on in and you'll see what I mean."
"Well.. alright then." -Boy did THAT sound like a trap or what? But the happy babe within her arms.. Babies were like animals, didn't like mean people. Atleast that's the way it'd always seemed to her, so she nodded softly, flipping the tip of her thumb up.
Stepping forward towards the creeking door, she pushed her way in a strange mix of delicate care and apprehension, and seemingly masculine brashness and excitment. Glancing over her shoulder she waited to see if the woman would follow.-
Huni just smiled at Dakota before excusing herself to finish feeding Paestri. "All we need to do is wait, right Pae?" she grinned at the infant.
Paestri braced herself against Huni as she tried to peer over her mama's shoulders to watch the tall woman enter the Study. But soon she was back in her high chair.
The door complied to Dakota's touch, and waited until the woman was completely inside before suddenly swinging shut. The lighting within the Study lit up, casting a soft, eerie glow on the writing table, the dusty rug and the numerous books that filled the shelves. But it was the Tome that lay atop the writing table beside a few quills and inkwells that caught the most light.
-As the door closed behind her, not unkindly, she stepped forward. Too late to go back now. Fiddling softly with her chocolate hued bangs once again, she glanced ahead eyes touching the books with soft care. The dust was a familar sight.. how often had she crept through untouched places, carefully removing pieces of history, taking them away to be protected.
Walking she subconciously followed the light, eyes focusing on the large tome alongside the quills. It reminds her rather of a wedding book.. or perhaps an ancient old diary of some hermit. Stepping forward she glanced curiously down, peeking to see if any words rest upon the pages.-
No words rested upon the pages of the old, leather-bound Tome. But upon the touch of Dakota, letters began to fade in until one question was visible:
Why am I so different?
-Dakota blinked once.. twice.. before lifting her hands, rubbing her fingers gently against her eyes. When the words didn't disappear however she stood silent for a moment, before finally her fingers reached towards one of the pens.
Holding the pen an inch or so from the paper she hesitated. Was she really going to risk hurting and marking up this ancient old tome just because she THOUGHT she saw something? The tip of the quill swung back and forth rhythmically as she thought before finally deciding to just go for it. Curiousity was a horrible curse... but one that had to be quenched.
With soft amusement she notice the gentle flaring of 'that feeling' again... The one from before, that told her something was going to happen tonight. Oh.. what the hey.
Pressing the quill to the ink well once again, she brushed in swift motions over the page writing simply in a masculine print. 'Because you alone hold the hope of your people'-
The moment Dakota lifts the quill from the pages, the ink is seemingly drained away and the thunderous sound of hooves can be heard. The inkwells start to clatter and topple over, as the books start to spill out of the shelves. The dust that had settled for what seems like ages begin to quiver and a loud, almost explosive war cry bursts into the room.
A duststorm has been summoned, and it swirls around the tall woman, blinding her, smothering her, and the shouts and the pounding of hooves are deafening. The scent of wine pierces through the dust, but that quickly fades into an acrid stench of blood.
Another tremor, harder, more powerful than the first rocks the entire Study and fissures begin to form all around Dakota. The wild cries become shrieks of agony and despair. And just when everything threatened to collapse in on Dakota, it all stopped.
Before Dakota was a little figure, a little girl riding a horse. No, wait, not riding a horse, but part of a horse. She grinned up at the tall woman before her, exuding an adventurous, almost masculine aura.
-Even Dakota's calm demeanor was cracked by the vicious and violent onslaught of noise and scents. It just... well it didn't make any sense. She wanted to cram her hands over her ears to block the noise, but was too overcome with the thought that she soon enough might need her hands to brace herself.
And when it melted away, giving presense to the young little one that stood before her, already illuding a sense of.. pride was it? in her childish grin.
Openning her mouth in a bat of uncharacteristic silence, Dakota finally squeaked the disjointed phrase as the young girl simply gave a contented swish of her tail.- "Centaur... book... child?"
-Peering closer to the child, Dakota squinted a little, fingers reaching to touch the centaur babe's soft coat, gaining an irked little click of her hooves.- "I.. I better go and find that woman..."
-Quickly Dakota stepped across the room, trying to yank the doorhandle open.-
The door creaks open, cueing Huni that a new Tale had arrived. She had finished feeding Paestri, although cleaning her up was a different story.
"Come on Pae, let's greet the newest one."
Paestri perked at the thought of meeting a new small-person and babbled in glee.
-The girl huffed a little softly as her 'mother'.. guardian acted so strangely.. almost seemed to run from her even? Crossing her little arms before her, she took a few small steps after her speaking in a small voice.- "Wh.. Where are you going? You aren't trying to leave me..?"
-How could she want to leave her? It must be a mistake.-
-The guilt ridden words eased Dakota's push on the door and she turned back gently, offering a confused look. Thankfully the sound of the door's creak, and the woman's voice was heard. She could explain.. hopefully.-
