Original Article

So I've been an advocate for the side of "something is fishy" about all the defective 360s, and I found an article that I just can't believe is 100% true, or at least the customer is not telling us something.

1. "My family cannot watch movies.": This is odd, because for $40 you can buy a DVD player, which is less than the cost of ONE 360 game.
2. He "bought the extended warranty": Why is he going through Microsoft if he "bought" an extended warranty? MS doesn't offer one, meaning that he got one from the manufacturer, and should be getting a new one through them.
3. He bought the HD DVD add-on: which suggests that he isn't up to date with current technology. For one, Blu-Ray was well on its way to winning, which makes an HD DVD drive a bad choice unless they got a MAJOR boost in 2007, which never came. On top of that, it suggests that Greg owns a nice entertainment setup, and maybe I'm just less sympathetic of people with more money than myself, but he has other options.
4. "Number was disconnected": perhaps Greg got his phone number incorrect, which would explain why he didn't get a call back...twice.
5. Impossible to get a new system: at this point, it looks like Greg has had his 360 for more than a year, and even if it is breaking down more than one Xbox should, he should have opted to replace the console sooner. After a year...hell, after 90 days you can do anything to your system to make it more prone to death, and it would be bad policy for a company to REPLACE a console after a very long time, because there are many things you can do to kill something and make it look like an accident, replace it with a new one and get a completely new product. This is fraud, and would cost the company a lot of money (and it looks like it costs Drinky's store a lot by replacing nearly every bad 360). Second to that, January 2nd is still part of the holiday cycle. Microsoft would have still been low on consoles from holiday sales, and kids with Christmas money would be buying a few more 360s in the weeks following. From a point of supply, it would be difficult just to find a 360.

He might be under the impression that you had to buy the 3-year RRoD protection plan.

However, I could believe that he's getting jerked around by Microsoft, speaking from my personal experiences with them regarding the 360.

Over a year ago, my first 360 got the RRoD, and it took Microsoft nearly three weeks to get a coffin to me to send it to them. They shipped back a refurbished unit almost a month later (No big deal, I was mainly playing Resistance and a ton of PS2 games), however, in November, the refurb 360 all together stopped reading discs, so I called them up again, but since it's been over a year since I bought my original 360, they said "We cannot help you". Same answer from two different calls. Okay, I was pissed but I made money off of it by pulling a fast one on my local Gamestop. I called up and canceled my XBL account that day because at some point in time, I set it up to take payments from my bank account when ever I needed to renew.

I bought a new 360 early this year, and picked up some XBL cards to use and ran off of those. Then a little while back, I decided that it wasn't worth me holding onto so I sold it again (this time it was working mind you all). Last week today, I noticed that my account was overdrafted, so I decided to find the source. Microsoft had charged me for another three months, after a little more research, they had been doing so every three months since December (Despite the fact that I got the prepaid cards). So I called up Microsoft that night and talked to a rep, she apologised for the mistake on their end and insisted that she canceled the account, I asked if I could get a refund for my money (I'm only asking for a return on the last $30 they took out, also, why was it $30?) and she said that they don't offer refunds on these purchases, but that I had until October somethingth to "Enjoy XBL". To which I responded "What good is that if I don't have a 360?". But I needed to get going, Dark Knight was starting soon.

I called up again on Saturday, and requested to speak to a manager for the call center, they put me straight through, he asked if I still owned a 360, put in my information and then said "Huh, I'm still seeing you as active", I informed him that I originally called to cancel back in November, he had record of that, then proceeded to cancel my account (again) and I asked him if I could get the last payment back. He again said "It's against our policy to refund money that has already been paid for with XBL". I'm getting a little angry here, but I comment "It's money that SHOULDN'T have been taken out of my account in the first place, you have record of me canceling almost a year ago, it's a mistake on your teams behalf that I'm still getting charged, why is a refund out of the question". He simply said "It's policy sir."

So I fired off an email on saturday to many people in the Xbox and Microsoft hierarchy, but I have yet to hear back from a single one of them. I really hope that the $30 is really that god damn important to them.

The problem there is the nature of automatic deductions. I got charged a for a year of XBL because they required a credit card. At least then I had the box to play on confused . I'm just against those automatic deductions. Then, if they're forced to call you/email/mail you something to ask permission, you can always tell them to screw off. You won't get the service, but your account won't be charged, either.

Anywho, you said that they had record of you canceling it three months before? In that case, they should refund you the money because you withdrew said authorization to charge your account. I understand that a manager you talked to wouldn't give a refund because of Microsoft Points (to keep people from using the "I didn't like the XBLA game" or "I didn't mean to unlock that" excuses), so as soon as you get someone just a step higher, I would hope that they'd do the refund.

I hope so as well, like I said, I'm not expecting, or even asking to get it ALL back (I've added it up to over $100). The thing that's pissing me off is that they know that I attempted to cancel the account, and it should have been canceled last November. They are charging me when they clearly shouldn't be charging me.

I'm hoping to get at least one reply soon, even something as little as "We are looking into it". But nothing yet, it's been three work days and today is the fourth. Why hasn't anything been done?

I pointed out in my email that I was going to be building a new windows based desktop in the near future, and if this last charge is not refunded, I will no longer buy Microsoft products.

I choose to forget about the actual topic at hand and instead discuss Bunnyman's problems.
MS guy
Mr Gates, we've lost one.

Bill Gates
Can he afford to file a lawsuit?

MS Guy
Not against us.

Bill Gates
Charge him to make up for the Vista he won't be purchasing.

By show of hands, who here thinks could have been the actual conversation, if only not Bill Gates, but with another of his subordinates?

Good News, I had a refund from Microsoft show up in my bank account today, but no email from any of the MS execs I emailed. Anywho, I'm pleased again, I just don't understand why they couldn't do it in the first place.

Does that mean me and Microsoft can still come to your house on Friday?

It means that I can still go through with building my master PC. However, don't expect me getting another 360 any time soon.

I am severely underwhelmed with what I have seen on the game. It's weird because I loved the first one, the sequel just hasn't done anything for me, and I've been keeping up with it.

Also, I think the chainsaw battles look stupid as hell.

Since we're on the topic of MS's horrible customer support shouldn't I receive something for my lack of a harddrive for about a month now since it malfunctioned?

I have a Gold account and missing a month is missing a lot. And since I just got the GoW w/ GoW2 preview and free map packs edition.
