So my band marches by rolling it's feet, and I've seen videos of bands marching totally different than us. Do most bands roll their feet, or no?

Our band marches the 'heel to toe' way. So yes, we do roll our feet. Although there are some Drum Corps that I've seen that don't, I guess it really all depends on how the BD wants you to march.

I was always taught that rolling your feet [with toes as high as you can get them] is the only way to march. =0

we roll-step, as do most bands. i like it because ppl don't get reeds and mouthpieces up their noses.
i've seen some colleges do a march with a high step(very complicated and slightly painful), but most that i've seen roll-step like almost everyone else.

When my school played against predominately black schools, we saw alot of high step marching. It looks great, if you do it without bouncing. But I think most bands do roll steps.

My band does roll-step, and I luv it. The only trick is going backwards without falling on my butt xd The woes of being a freshman... Either way I love roll-step marching!

All the bands I've seen roll step, but I suppose it's possible to do something else. Rolling your feet really helps brass players (and probably woodwind players to an extent) to keep a steady sound. That way, the brass don't sound like they're playing and walking.

Do you guys roll-step backwards or something? When we march backwards, we just stay on the platforms of our feet the whole time. I'm not very good at doing it fast without bending my knees. >_>
