So here's the story sweatdrop
Some game that I was playing said my computer had a virus, I ran some virus thing, turned off the computer, next mourning it wouldn't go to the normal desktop screen.
We eventually did a system recovery thing, not losing anything really, but some programs were messed up, including java.

So whenever I played on runescape it would go very slow, getting a connection lost almost every minute.
So I tried to download a more recent java thinking it might have been lost, i tried it and it wouldn't download and it failed.
Then I tried completely getting rid of java and downloading it again, but it still won't download it.
Meaning now I can't even play runescape.
I tried downloading some older version but I had hardly any clue what I was doing, and it didn't seem to work.

So yeah, I'm in need of some help, please and thanks. 3nodding

Edit: Also, disk defrag doesn't work either, if anyone could help with that, it'd be great. whee

You should run another Virus Scan. It might still be in there. Or, go to task manager and click process data thing. If there is like, 5 or more things that are the same, you have a virus. biggrin

The virus may have killed some programs, and it still remained after the system restore. Or maybe you restored to a date where you still had the virus. I don't know.

What about you try another system restore, to go to an earlier date, or try and see if you can get your previous settings you had back. You know, before you did the restore. Then you can try and see if Java works. If everything's fine, then work on removing the virus by other means then a system restore.

-edit- Okay, I just thought of something else you could try. Download Java on another computer, copy it onto a flash drive, then stick it on this computer. I think this might work better then anything else I suggested.

Sorry I can't be more help Felix, this really sucks. :[

Thanks for all the help guys, I'm going to try a few things sometime.
Been really irratated with the computer today, going at normal speeds, then going really slow, it's really annoying sweatdrop
Anyway, I wanted to try system restore, but it won't work, says it fails.
I'll decide what to do sometime later.

Just a thought, but I think it matters on what you get it from. If you downloaded it off the internet, then I think it might have the ability to screw you over. If it was already on your computer, then you're okay.

Also, Felix could be wrong, I have no idea. But it could be that AVG didn't mess up his computer, It just didn't fix the viruses. Thats the problem my last computer had.
